Programmable Features 61 Setting the Error Correction Mode (ECM) {#}{4}{1}{3}This feature is available when the sending / receiving fax machines are ECM compatible. {0} “Off”: Deactivates this feature. {1} “On” (default): Fax transmission / reception will be carried out so that the errors do not occur. Setting the connecting tone {#}{4}{1}{6}If you often have trouble when sending faxes, this feature allows you to hear connecting tones: fax tone, ring back tone and busy tone. You can use these tones to confirm the status of the other party’s machine. {0} “Off”: Deactivates this feature. {1} “On” (default): You will hear connecting tones. Note: LIf the ring back tone continues, the other party’s machine may not be a fax machine or may have run out of paper. Check with the other party. LThe connecting tone volume cannot be adjusted. Note: LThe slow beeps will continue until you solve the printing problem and make sure the unit is supplied with enough paper to print the stored document. Setting friendly reception {#}{4}{3}{8}To receive a fax automatically when you answer a call and hear a fax calling tone (slow beep). {0} “Off”: You have to press {Black} for fax reception. {1} “On” (default): You do not have to press {Black} for fax reception. Receiving a fax into the computer {#}{4}{4}{2}If you wish to receive a fax into the computer, activate this feature and run [PC FA X] from Multi-Function Station. This feature is available when feature #448 is deactivated. {0} “Off” (default): Deactivates this feature. {1} “Always”: If the unit recognizes the connection to the computer, it will transfer received documents to the computer. If the unit cannot recognize the connection, it will store received documents in memory, and then transfer the data after recognition of the connection. {2} “Connected”: If the unit recognizes the connection to the computer, it will transfer received documents to the computer. If the unit cannot recognize the connection, it will print the data. Setting the computer for PC fax reception {#}{4}{4}{3}To select the computer that will be used for receiving a fax. See page 24 for details. Sending legal size documents using the scanner glass {#}{4}{4}{5}{0} “Off” (default): Deactivates this feature. {1} “Next Fax”: Legal-size documents can be sent for the next fax transmission using the scanner glass. After transmission, this setting will turn OFF automatically. {2} “Always”: Legal-size documents can be sent using the scanner glass anytime. Setting the fax preview mode {#}{4}{4}{8}If you wish to display the received fax document, activate this feature. {0} “Off” (default): Deactivates this feature. {1} “On”: The unit will store the received fax document in memory. You can display the fax document before printing or saving (page 48). Note: LIf you select “On”, the PC fax setting (feature #442 on page 62) will be deactivated. Setting the information for saving a fax document as an e-mail attachment (via an e- mail server) (LAN connection only) LThis feature can be programmed only through the web browser interface.When you save the fax document as an e-mail attachment, you need to program the e-mail server and SMTP server settings beforehand. Note: LThis feature may lower the print quality by reducing the resolution. Setting the recording paper direction in PCL {#}{7}{6}{5}{1} “Portrait” (default): The document will be printed in portrait direction. {2} “Landscape”: The document will be printed in landscape direction. Setting the A4 wide feature in PCL {#}{7}{6}{6}You can change the margin and printable area of A4-size recording paper so that 80 characters in 10 cpi font may be printed on a line. {0} “Off” (default): Deactivates this feature. {1} “On”: The margin and printable area of A4 recording paper will be changed. Setting the line per page in PCL {#}{7}{6}{7}To set the number of lines per page in PCL printing. 1.{Menu} i {#}{7}{6}{7} i {Set} 2.Enter the number of lines per page from “005” to “128”, using the dial keypad. The unit assigns a number to each font. 1.{Menu} i {#}{7}{6}{9} i {Set} 2.Enter the font number from “000” to “054”, using the dial keypad. LThe default setting is “000”. 3.{Set} i {Menu} Note: LIf feature #768 is set to “Download Font”, the default setting is “001”. LTo print the font list, see page 104. Setting the font pitch/point in PCL {#}{7}{7}{0}To set the font pitch/point to be used in PCL printing. 1.{Menu} i {#}{7}{7}{0} i {Set} 2.Enter the font pitch from “00.44” to “99.99”, or the point from “004.00” to “999.75”, using the dial keypad. LThe default setting is “060” seconds. 3.{Set} i {Menu} Detecting monochrome pages {#}{7}{7}{5}{0} “Off”: When you make a color printout, all pages including monochrome pages will be printed using color toner cartridges and the color drum cartridge. This will increase consumable usage for color toner cartridges and the color drum cartridge. {1} “On” (default): When you make a color printout, this feature automatically detects the monochrome pages of your document and prints only using the black toner cartridge and monochrome drum cartridge. This will decrease consumable usage for color toner cartridge and color drum cartridge, but will require time to automatically switch between monochrome printing and color printing. Holding the previous scanning parameter for Push Scan {#}{4}{9}{4}{0} “Disabled” (default): Deactivates this feature. {1} “Enabled”: The unit will hold the previous scan settings for each mode of push scan; scan size, resolution, file format, brightness, color contrast/contrast. Setting the monochrome scan type {#}{4}{9}{5}{1} “Black/White” (default): To scan as black lines, select this for text contents. {2} “Grayscale”: To scan as black lines and gray shades, select this for images.
