5 Preparation For assistance, please call: 1-800-211-PANA(7262) Charger unit How to use the Navigator key This key has four active areas that are indicated by arrows. •Pressing the up and down arrows allows you •– to scroll through a list of settings, the Caller List and your personal directory, •– to adjust the ringer and the speaker/receiver volumes, or •– to select characters or numbers when entering directory items or setting the clock. •Pressing the right arrow allows you to enter the directory list or to select your menu choices. Throughout these Operating Instructions, the Navigator key is indicated by the arrows Ö, Ñ, Üor á. How to use the soft keys: Three soft keys are used to select functions displayed directly below the keys. Functions displayed below the keys will change depending on the state of usage and which base unit model (KX-TG2700/KX-TG2720/ KX-TG2730/KX-TG2740) this handset is registered to. To operate “ ”, press the left soft key. To operate “ ”, press the right soft key. •When a function does not appear below a soft key, the soft key will not work. Ex. The soft key above “” will work as key. $The time is displayed while the handset is not in use. The display shows the dialed number, call status, programming options and directory items etc. “” with the extension numbers will be displayed during an intercom (p. 40) or a conference call (p. 43), or while using the Room Monitor feature (p. 45). If you subscribe to a Caller ID service, caller information will be displayed. “Received calls” will be displayed when new calls have been received. %“”(IN USE icon), or “” and “” (Line stations icons) function as follows. & “SP” appears when using the speakerphone during an intercom call or a conference call, while listening to messages (for KX-TG2730/KX-TG2740 users) or when monitoring a room from the speaker. 7 Preparation For assistance, please call: 1-800-211-PANA(7262) Installation Installing the Battery A rechargeable Nickel-Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) battery powers the handset. Install the battery and charge it for about 15 hours before initial use (p. 8). 1 Push up on the triangle of the battery holder to release (#), and bring down the holder ($). 2 Insert the battery into the handset as shown, matching the correct polarity. 3 Bring up the holder and insert the tab into the slot. Press down the top of the holder until it clicks into position. # $ Slot Ta b 4 Close the handset cover until it clicks into position.
Battery Charge Place the handset on the charger and charge for about 15 hours before initial use. •The CHARGE indicator lights, a beep sounds and “Charging” will be displayed. Note: If a fully charged battery is disconnected from the unit and plugged in again, the LCD display will show “”. Charge the battery for about 15 hours to obtain full strength. CHARGE Indicator Connection •USE ONLY WITH Panasonic AC ADAPTOR KX-TCA1 (Order No. KX-TCA1-G). •The AC adaptor must remain connected at all times. (It is normal for the adaptor to feel warm during use.) 8 Installation AC AdaptorPower Outlet (AC 120 V, 60 Hz) Battery strength You can check the battery strength on the handset display. 9 Preparation For assistance, please call: 1-800-211-PANA(7262) •The battery operating time may be shortened depending on usage conditions and ambient temperature. •Clean the charge contacts of the handset and the charger with a soft, dry cloth once a month. Clean more often if the unit is subject to grease, dust or high humidity.Otherwise the battery may not charge properly. •If the battery is fully charged, you do not have to place the handset on the charger until “Recharge battery” is displayed and/or “” flashes. This will maximize the battery life. •The battery cannot be overcharged. Recharge Recharge the battery when: — “Recharge battery” is displayed, —“ ” flashes on the display, or —the handset beeps intermittently while it is in use. •If you DO NOT recharge the handset battery for more than 15 minutes, the display will continually indicate “Recharge battery” and/or “” will flash when the handset is lifted off the charger. •If the battery has been discharged, the handset will display “Charge for 15HRS” and “” when you place the handset on the charger. The handset will not work. Keep charging. 10 Registration The handset display shows the instructions as shown on the right. 1 Base unit:Press (MUTE). •The MUTE indicator light flashes. 2 Handset: #Press the soft key ( ). $Wait until a long beep sounds and the display shows the registered number. The registration will be then complete. •The registered number “[1]”to“[8]” is shown on the bottom right of the display. •You can stop registration by pressing (SNOOZE/ALARM)or (OFF)on the handset and pressing (MUTE)on the base unit. •The displays will vary depending on which base unit model this handset is registered to. OK Ex. Extension number 2 This cordless handset must be registered at the KX-TG2700/KX-TG2720/ KX-TG2730/KX-TG2740 base unit. The handset will be assigned the extension number at registration. Only one handset can be registered at a time. Make sure the base unit and the other handsets are not being used. Registration must be completed within 1 minute. To re-register a handset to a different base unit of the same model, see pages 62 and 63.
