- 81 - Recording This mode minimizes the jitter of the subjects, and enables you to take pictures of these subjects in dimly lit rooms. ∫ Picture Size Select the picture size of 3M (4:3), 2.5M (3:2), 2M (16:9) or 2 .5M (1:1). This mode allows you to take vivid pictures of a starry sky or a dark subject. ∫ Setting the shutter speed Select a shutter speed of [15 sec.] or [30 sec.]. • Press the shutter button fully to display the countdown screen. Do not move the camera after this screen is displayed. When countdown finishes, [Please wait...] is displayed for the s ame length of time as the set shutter speed for signal processing. •The shutter opens for 15 or 30 seconds. Be sure to use a tripod. We also recommend taking pictures with the Self-timer. Objects in the distance are prioritized for focus. This mode is ideal for taking pictures of scenery and other lan dscapes through clear glass, such as in vehicles or buildings. • The camera may focus on the glass if it is dirty or has dust on it.•The pictures taken may not look natural if the glass is colored. - 82 - Recording Taking Pictures with different image effects (Creative Control Mode) Recording Mode: This mode allows you to add any of 15 types of effects before recording. You can set the effects to add by selecting example images and checking them on the screen. 1Set the mode dial to [ ]. 2Press 3/4 to select image effects and then press [MENU/SET]. •The image effect of the selected example image will be applied in a preview display A. •A brief description of selected image effect appears when you press [DISP.]. •To change the Creative Control Mode, press [MENU/SET], select [ Creative Control] using 3/4/2/ 1, and then press [MENU/SET]. •The displayed image on the recording screen and the preview of the selected image effect may differ from the actual recorded image. •ISO sensitivity will be fixed to [AUTO].•White Balance will be fixed to [AWB]. This effect reduces peripheral brightness to give the impressio n of a toy camera. [Toy Effect] Items that can be set Color Orange emphasized Blue emphasized •Press 2/1 to select the color tone , and press [MENU/SET].

[Miniature Effect] Items that can be set Direction of the blur Horizontal/Vertical •Press 2/1 to select the direction of the blur, and press [MENU/SET]. •Display of the recording scre en will be delayed more than usual and the screen will look as if frames are being dropped during motion p icture recording. •No sound is recorded in motion pictures.•If you record a motion picture with [Rec Quality] set to [FHD], its length will be approximately 1/15th of the actual recorded time period. On the other hand, the recordable time displayed on the camera will be appro ximately 15 times longer than the actual time needed for recording. If you record a motion picture with [Rec Quality] set to [HD]/[V GA], its length will be approximately 1/6th of the actual recorded time period. On the other hand, the recordable time displayed on the camera wil l be approximately 6 times longer than the actual time needed for re cording. When switching to Recording Mode, please check the available re cording time. •Even if motion picture recording is terminated in a short time, the recording may actually continue for a certain period of time. Keep the camera still until the recording is complete. •When taking pictures of a large size, the screen may turn black after taking the picture because of signal processing. This is not a malfunc tion. [Soft Focus]

If you then record in Custom Mode, you can use the registered s ettings. • Initial setting of the Program AE Mode is registered as the cus tom settings initially. If you want to take pictures that have the same settings, you can register up to four items of the current camera settings to [Cust.Set Mem.]. 1Set the mode dial to select the mode you wish to save, and then set the menu on the camera. 2Select [Cust.Set Mem.] on the [Setup] menu. (P41) 3Press 3/4 to select the custom set to register and then press [MENU/ SET]. •Confirmation screen is displayed . It is executed when [Yes] is selected. Exit the menu after it is executed. Registering Personal Menu Settings (Registering custom settings) Custom setDescription of settings The settings are registered for [ ] on the mode dial. •You can record using by simply rotating the mode dial to the corresponding position. If you register the custom settings you use often, it is then convenient to use them. The settings are registered for [ ] on the mode dial. •You can register up to 3 sets of custom settings and use the different sets as condition demand.

You can change the registered settings from [Cust.Set Mem.] in the [Setup] menu. • Since certain menu items would be reflected in other recording modes, they are not saved. - 90 - Recording Entering Text You can enter the name of your baby or pet when taking pictures. In addition, you can enter characters (comments) on the picture s you have taken. When a screen that looks like the one on the right is displayed , you can enter characters. (Only alphabetical characters and symbols can be entered.) 1Press 3/ 4/2/1 to select text and then press [MENU/SET] to register. •Move the cursor to [ ] and then press [MENU/SET] to switch text between [A] (capitals), [a] (lower case), [1] (numbers) and [&] (special characters).
