Others 344 Troubleshooting First, try out the following procedures (P344 to P357) . • The battery is exhausted. > Charge the battery. •If you leave the camera on, the battery will be exhausted. > Turn the camera off frequently by using the [Economy] etc. (P69) • [Economy] is enabled. (P69)•Is the linked operation of VIERA Link enabled? > If you are not using VIERA Link, set [VIERA Link] to [OFF]. (P71) •Insert the battery securely all the way in. (P27) •Is a Wi-Fi connection being used for a long period of time? The battery can become flat quickly when connected to Wi-Fi. > Turn the camera off frequently by using the [Economy] etc. (P69) •When a high ambient temperature, continuous recording or other conditions cause the camera to overheat, the following restrictions will occur to protect the camera. Wait until the camera cools down. –Continuous recording, motion picture recording, and the Wi-Fi c onnection will be temporarily disabled. –If you continue recording even when [ ] is flashing on the scree n, a message will be displayed and the camera will turn off automatically. If the problem is not resolved, it may be improved by selecting [Reset] (P72) on the [Setup] menu. Battery and power source The camera cannot be operated even when it is turned on. The camera turns off immediately after it is turned on. This unit is turned off automatically. Card/battery door does not close. The battery becomes flat too quickly. Recording This unit suddenly turns off during recording.

(P152) You cannot take a picture until the subject is brought into foc us. •Picture might look whitish when lens or image sensor gets dirty with fingerprints or similar. > If the lens is dirty turn the camera off and then gently wipe t he lens surface with a soft, dry cloth. > Refer to P359 when the image sensor gets dirty. •Check that the exposure is correctly compensated. (P161)•Is the AE Lock (P159) applied incorrectly? •Cancel the following settings: –Burst/Auto Bracket/[ ] of the self-timer (P168)–White Balance Bracket (P130) •The subject is beyond the focus range of the camera. (P40)•There is camera shake (jitter) or the subject is moving slightl y. (P196) •Is [Focus/Release Priority] in the [Custom] menu set to [RELEAS E]? (P152)•Is the AF Lock (P159) applied incorrectly? •The shutter speed will become slower and the Optical Image Stab ilizer function may not work properly when taking pictures especially in dark places. > We recommend holding the camera firmly with both hands when tak ing pictures. (P38) > We recommend using a tripod and the self-timer (P175) when taking pictures with a slow shutter speed. •Are you using a lens which supp orts the Stabilizer function? (P17) •When a moving subject is recorded with the electronic shutter, the subject may appear distorted on the picture. (P166) •Is there any memory remaining on the card? Taking pictures is not possible. The shutter will not operate immediately when the shutter butto n is pressed. The recorded picture is whitish. The recorded picture is too bright or dark. Multiple pictures are taken at one time. The subject is not focused properly. The recorded picture is blurred. The Optical Image Stabilizer is not effective. Taking pictures using White Balance Bracket is not possible.

13. Others 346 •Try the following:> Take pictures in bright places. > Decrease the ISO sensitivity. (P162) > Increase the setting for [Noise Reduction] in [Photo Style] or lower the setting for each of the items other than [Noise Reduction]. (P123) > Set the [Long Shtr NR] to [ON]. (P135) •Is the [Picture Size] (P131) or the [Quality] (P132) set low? •Is the [Digital Zoom] set? (P200) •When recording under fluorescent or LED lighting fixture, etc., increasing the shutter speed may introduce slight changes to brightness and color. These are a result of the characteristics of the light source and do not indicate a malfunction. •When recording subjects in extremely bright locations or record ing under fluorescent lighting, LED lighting fixture, mercury lamp, sodium lighting, etc., the colors and screen brightness may change or horizontal striping may appear on the screen. •There may be defective pixels in the image sensor. > Perform [Pixel Refresh] (P73). •Are you in Exposure Compensation operation? > Press the rear dial to switch to Exposure Compensation operatio n. (P161) •Set the AF area to the distinctive color of the subject if ther e is a part that is different from the surrounding color. (P144) The recorded picture looks rough. Noise appears on the picture. Striping or flicker may appear under lighting such as fluoresce nt lighting and LED lighting fixture. • This is characteristic of MOS sensors which serve as the camera ’s pickup sensors. This is not a malfunction. •Are you taking pictures with the electronic shutter? (P166) > When using the electronic shutter, lowering the shutter speed may reduce the effect of the horizontal stripes. The brightness or the hue of the recorded picture is different from the actual scene. Bright spot not in subject is recorded. You cannot compensate the exposure. Subject cannot be locked. (AF tracking not possible)

(P14) •If the camera is moved too slowly, the camera has assumed that camera motion was stopped and will end the still picture recording. •If there is a great deal of shaking towards the recording direc tion while moving the camera, recording will end. •You may not be able to record for a short while after turning t his unit on when using a large capacity card. •Use a card with SD Speed Class with “Class 4” or higher when rec ording motion pictures.•When a card with a slow data writing speed is used, motion picture recording may stop midway. > If a card on which recording and deleting have been repeated ma ny times or a card that has been formatted on a PC or other equipment is being used, we recommend that you make a backup of the data and format (P29) the card on the unit. •When recording a motion picture, the screen may go dark after a certain period to reduce battery consumption, but this will not affect the recorded moti on picture. •Depending on the environment at the time of motion picture reco rding, the screen may be blacked out momentarily or the unit may record noise due to sta tic electricity or powerful electromagnetic waves (radio towe rs, high voltage power lines, etc.). •This is characteristic of MOS sensors which serve as the camera ’s pickup sensors. This is not a malfunction. When a subject moves across the image very fast, the subject ma y appear slightly distorted. •When noticeable flicker or striping is seen under lighting such as a fluorescent or LED lighting fixture, you can reduce the flicker or striping by setting up [ Flkr Decrease] (P224) and fixing the shutter speed. It is possible to select a shutter speed from [1/50], [1/60], [1/100], or [1/120]. You can set the shutter speed manually in the Creative Video Mo de. (P118) Operation sound is small. Recording by Panorama Shot Mode is ended before finishing. Motion pictures Recording motion pictures is not possible. Motion picture recording stops in the middle. When recording a motion picture, the screen may go dark. The screen may be blacked out momentarily, or the unit may reco rd noise. Striping or flicker appears under lighting such as a fluorescent or LED lighting fixture. The subject appears distorted.

13. Others 348 •With recording in a quiet environment, depending on the lenses used, the sound of aperture and focus actions may be recorded in motion pictures. Focus operation can be set to [OFF] in [Continuous AF] (P219). •Use of [Silent Operation] is recommended if you are concerned about operational sounds. (P119) •While recording motion pictures, plugging the aperture of the microphone with a finger may reduce the level of audio recording or audio may not record at all. Also be careful because the operation sound of lenses can easily be recorded at this time. •Depending on the lens used, picture may be warped slightly or y ou may see colors along the edge depending on the zoom factor, due to the characteristics of the lens. Also, the peripherals of the image might look warped because the perspective is enhanced when the wide angle is used. This is not a malfunction. •The Optical Image Stabilizer function of the interchangeable le ns (H-FS12032/H-FS35100) only works correctly with supported cameras. > When older Panasonic digital cameras (DMC-GF1/DMC-GH1/DMC-G1) a re used, [Stabilizer] in the [Rec] menu (P195) cannot be set to [OFF]. It is recommended to update the firmware of the digital camera at the following website. http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/dsc/download/ (This Site is English only.) > When using this lens with another make of digital cameras, the Optical Image Stabilizer function will not work. (As of September 2014) For details, contact the respective company. •Manual Focus with the lens is possible only with the interchang eable lens (H-FS12032). Refer to the support website below for details: http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/dsc/ (This Site is English only.) In motion pictures, abnormal clicking and buzzing sounds are re corded. The recorded sound is very quiet. Lens Recorded image may be warped, or nonexistent color is surroundi ng the subject. When the lens is attached to another digital camera, stabilizer function cannot be turned off or stabilizer function does not work. When the lens is attached to another digital camera, manual focus operation cannot be performed.

349 13. Others •Is the flash (supplied) turned off?> Turn on the flash. (P203) •When the electronic shutter is used, the flash is not activated . (P166) > Set [Shutter Type] to [AUTO] or [EFC]. •When [Silent Mode] is set to [ON] , the flash is not activated. (P186) > Set [Silent Mode] to [OFF]. •(Except for when [Firing Mode] in [Flash] is set to [MANUAL]) T he flash is activated 2 times. The interval between the first and second flash is longer when Red-Eye Reduction (P207) is set so the subject should not move until the second flash is ac tivated. •If no operations are performed during the set time period, [Auto LVF/Monitor Off] (P69) is activated, and the Monitor/Viewfinder turns off. •When an object or your hand is positioned near the eye sensor, the Monitor display may switch to the Viewfinder display. (P51) •Check [Monitor Luminance] setting. (P69) •Perform [Monitor Display]/[Viewfinder]. (P68) •This occurs due to the aperture of the lens changing when the s hutter button is pressed halfway, or when the brightness of the subject changes. This is not a malfunction. •Does the picture appear on the viewfinder? > Press [LVF] to switch to monitor display. (P51) •Is the monitor switched off? > Switch the display by pressing [DISP.]. (P45) •It is only displayed on the monitor when the camera is connecte d to a PC or printer. Flash The flash is not activated. The flash is activated 2 times. Monitor/Viewfinder The Monitor/Viewfinder turns off although the camera is turned on. The Monitor/Viewfinder is too bright or dark. It may flicker for an instant or the brightness of the screen may change significantly for an instant. The picture is not displayed on the monitor. Monitor and viewfinder do not switch when [LVF] is pressed.

These pixels do not affect the recorded pictures. •In dark places, noise may appear to maintain the brightness of the monitor. •The monitor may display distorted images in high ambient temper atures, but this does not affect images to be recorded. •This is a characteristic of the camera’s monitor and is not a m alfunction. Images to be recorded will not be affected. •This is a characteristic of the camera’s monitor and is not a m alfunction. Images to be recorded will not be affected. •This is a characteristic of the drive system of the viewfinder of this unit, and it is not a malfunction. There will be no problem with the recorded image. •You can display the pictures wit hout being rotated when [Rotate Disp.] (P250) is set to [OFF].•You can rotate pictures with the [Rotate] function. (P250) •Is the card inserted?•Is there a picture on the card?•Is this a folder or picture which was processed in the PC? If it is, it cannot be played back by this unit. > It is recommended to use the “ PHOTOfunSTUDIO ” software in the DVD (supplied) to write pictures from PC to card. •Has [Playback Mode] been set for playback? > Change to [Normal Play]. (P237) Black, white, red, blue and green dots appear on the Monitor/Vi ewfinder. Noise appears on the monitor. The monitor displays distorted images. The outlines of fluorescent lights and other bright light sources flicker on the monitor. Horizontal stripes appear when the monitor is viewed from an angle in an outside environment exposed to strong sunlight. You see red, green, or blue flashes when you move your eyes in the viewfinder, or when the camera is moved rapidly. Playback The picture being played back is not rotated, or is rotated in an unexpected direction, when displayed. The picture is not played back. There are no recorded pictures.
