201 8. Stabilizer, Zoom and Flash Applicable modes: Sets the screen display and lens operations when using an interchangeable lens that is compatible with power zoom (electrically operated zoom). This may only be selected when using a lens that is compatible with power zoom (electrically operated zoom). • The interchangeable lenses (H-FS12032/H-FS35100/H-X015) are not compatible with power zoom. (For compatible lenses, please refer to our website.) Changing the settings for a power zoom lens > [Custom] > [Power Zoom Lens] [Disp Focal Length] When you zoom, the focal distance is displayed and you can confirm the zoom position. Please note that this section provides instructions based on the flash (supplied ). • For information on other external flashes, refer to P324. ∫Removing the Hot Shoe Cover The camera comes with a hot shoe cover attached to the hot shoe . Remove the hot shoe cover by pulling it in the direction indicated by arrow 2 while pressing it in the direction indicated by arrow 1 . • When the hot shoe is not in use, make sure to attach the hot shoe cover. •Please be careful not to lose the hot shoe cover.•Keep the Hot Shoe Cover out of reach of children to prevent swa llowing. •Attach, remove the flash slowly and gently. 1Turn off the camera and the flash.2Slide the flash firmly all the way into the camera’s hot shoe until it clicks into place. • Turn on the camera and the flash when taking pictures.•Do not hold the flash to carry the camera when the flash is attached to the camera. Stabilizer, Zoom and Flash 204 Forcing the flash off ([Œ]) In situations where pictures cannot be taken with the flash, su ch as when the flash (supplied) is turned off or when you are recording a motion pic ture, [ Œ] (forced flash off) is displayed on the recording screen and the flash does not fire. In the following cases, the flash is fixed to [ Œ] (forced flash off). • When recording motion pictures •When using the electronic shutter•When [HDR] is set to [ON]•When [Silent Mode] is set to [ON] •When an image effect in [Filter Select] of [Filter Settings] is set Using the flash skillfully •When recording with the flash, white saturation can occur if th e subject is too close. If [Highlight] of the [Custom] menu is set to [ON], regions of white saturation will blink black and white when you play back or use Auto Review. In this case, we recommend that you adjust [Flash Adjust.] (P210) in the minus direction and record the pictures again. •When taking pictures with flash with the lens hood attached, th e lower portion of the photo may turn dark and the control of the flash may be disabled beca use the photo flash may be obscured by the lens hood. We recommend detaching the lens hood .

Stabilizer, Zoom and Flash ∫The available flash range (approximation) When you use certain lenses, light from the flash may be blocked or fail to cover the lens field of view, causing dark areas to appear in the resulting pictures. The distance at which light from the flash is blocked by lens, and the distance to which light from the flash is delivered vary depending on the lens used. Check the distance to the subject when taking a picture. • These ranges are obtained when the flash (supplied) is attached , the ISO sensitivity is set to [AUTO], and [ISO Limit Set] (P163) is set to [OFF]. •Do not bring any objects near the flash. The heat and light from the flash may cause the objects to deform or discolor. •It may take time to charge the flash if you repeatedly take pictures. You must wait a moment to take the next picture while the flash icon is blinking red indi cating the flash is charging. Take a picture after the access indication disappears. Applicable modes: Select whether to set the flash output automatically or manuall y. 1Select the menu. (P57) 2Press 3/4 to select the item and then press [MENU/SET]. • When [MANUAL] is set, the luminosity ratio ([1/1], etc.) is dis played on the flash icon on the screen. •This item is not available when an external flash (optional) is being used. 1Select the menu. (P57) 2Press 2/1 to select an item and then press [MENU/SET]. •You can set from [1/1] (full brightness) to [1/64] in steps of [1/3]. •This item is available only when [Firing Mode] is set to [MANUA L]. In [TTL] you can shoot the photograph you want even when shooting dark scenes that may otherwise be too brightly lit by the flash. (P57) 2Press 3/4 to select the item and then press [MENU/SET]. ¢ It can be set only when [Wireless] in [Flash] is set to [OFF] a nd [Firing Mode] is set to [TTL].•Some flash modes may not be available depending on the external flash’s settings. The flash is activated twice. The interval between the first and second flash is longer when [ ] or [ ] is set. The subject should not move until the second flash is activated. • The Red-Eye Reduction effect differs between people. Also, if t he subject was far away from the camera or was not looking at the first flash, the effect ma y not be evident. ∫Correcting red eyes Applicable modes: When Red-Eye Reduction ([ ], [ ]) is selected, Red-Eye Removal is performed whenever the flash is used. The camera automatically detects re d-eye and corrects the picture. Settings: [ON]/[OFF] • [ ] is displayed on the icon when it is set to [ON].•Under certain circumstances, red-eye cannot be corrected. ([Slow Sync.])([Slow Sync./ Red-Eye]) ¢ When taking pictures against a dark background landscape, this feature will slow the shutter speed when the flash is activated. Dark background landscape will appear brighter. •Use this when you take pictures of people in front of a dark background. •Using a slower speed can cause motion blur. Using a tripod can enhance your photos. Stabilizer, Zoom and Flash ∫Shutter speed for each flash setting ¢1 In Shutter Priority AE Mode, the shutter speed can be set to a value between 60 seconds and 1/50th of a second; in Manual Exposure Mode, it can be set to T (Time) or a value between 60 seconds and 1/50th of a second. ¢ 2 The setting changes to T (Time) in Manual Exposure Mode. •When the flash is activated the fastest shutter speed that can be selected is 1/50th of a second.•In Intelligent Auto ( or ) Mode, shutter speed changes depending on the identified scene. Applicable modes: 2nd curtain synchro activates the flash just before the shutter closes when taking pictures of moving objects such as cars using a slow shutter speed. 1Select the menu.
