151 Create, rename, or delete folders, or choose the folder in which subsequent photographs will be stored. •Select folder : Choose the folder in which subseq uent photographs will be stored. • New : Create a new folder and name it as described on page 91. Folder names can be up to five characters long. • Rename : Select a folder from the list and rename it as described on page 91. • Delete : Delete all empty folders on the memory card. Select On to reduce barrel distortion in photos taken with wide- angle lenses and to reduce pin-cushion distortion in photos taken with long lenses (note that the edges of the area visible in the viewfinder may be cropped ou t of the final photograph, and that the time needed to process photographs before recording begins may increase). This option does not apply to movies and is available only with type G and D lenses (PC, fisheye, and certain other lenses excluded); results are not guaranteed with other lenses. Storage FolderG button ➜Cshooting menu DFolder Names On the memory card, folder names are preceded by a three-digit folder number assigned automatically by the camera (e.g., 100D5200). Each folder can contain up to 999 photographs. During shooting, pictures are stored in the highest-numbered folder with the selected name. If a photograph is taken when the current folder is full or contains a photograph numbered 9999, the camera will crea te a new folder by adding 1 to the current folder number (e.g., 101D5200). The camera treats folders with the same name but different folder numbers as the same folder. For example, if the folder NIKON is selected for Storage folder , photographs in all folders named NIKON (100NIKON, 101NIKON, 102NIKON, etc.) will be visible when Current is selected for Playback folder (0 148). Renaming changes all folders with the same name but leaves the folder numbers intact. Selecting Delete deletes empty numbered folders but leaves other folders with the same name intact. 152 The color space determines the gamut of colors available for color reproduction. Choose sRGB for photographs that will be printed or used “as is,” with no further modification. Adobe RGB has a wider color gamut and is recommended for images that will be extensively processed or retouched after leaving the camera. Color SpaceG button ➜Cshooting menu AColor Space Color spaces define the correspondence between colors and the numeric values that represent them in a digital image file. The sRGB color space is widely used, while the Adobe RGB color space is typically used in publishing and commercial printing. sRGB is recommended when taking photographs that will be printed without modification or viewed in applications that do not support color management, or when taking photographs that will be printed with ExifPrint, the direct printing option on some household printers, or kiosk printing or other commercial print services. Adobe RGB photographs can also be printed using these options, but colors will not be as vivid. JPEG photographs taken in the Adobe RGB colo r space are DCF compliant; applications and printers that support DCF will select the correct color space automatically. If the application or device does not support DCF, select the appropriate color space manually. For more information, see the documentation prov ided with the application or device. ANikon Software ViewNX 2 (supplied) and Capture NX 2 (available separately) automatically select the correct color space when opening photographs created with this camera.
153 If On is selected, photographs take n at shutter speeds slower than 1 s will be processed to reduce noise (bright spots, randomly-spaced bright pixels, or fog). The time required for processing roughly doubles; during processing, “ lm” will flash in the viewfinder and pictures can not be taken (if the came ra is turned off before processing is complete, the picture will be saved but noise reduction will not be performed). Photographs taken at high ISO sensitivitie s can be processed to reduce “noise.” Adjust ISO sensitivity ( 049).
