14.   Manage Your DST Router Network
This chapter describes the DST router settings for administering and maintaining your DST 
router and home network. 
The chapter includes the following sections:

Update the DST Router Firmware
The DST router firmware (routing software) is stored in flash memory. You might see a 
message at the top of the genie pages when new firmware is available. You can respond to 
that message to update the firmware, or you can check to see if new firmware is available 
and update your product. 
Check for New Firmware and Update the DST Router
For you to check for new firmware, the DST router must be connected to the Internet.
To check for new firmware and update your DST router:
1. Launch a web browser from a computer or WiFi device that is connected to the network.
2. Enter http://www.routerlogin.net.
A login window displays.
3. Enter the router user name and password.
The user name is admin. The default password is password. The user name and 
password are case-sensitive.
The BASIC Home page displays.
4. Select ADVANCED > Administration > Router Update.
The Router Update page displays.
5. Click the Check button.
The DST router finds new firmware information if any is available and displays a message 
asking if you want to download and install it.
6. Click the Ye s button.
The DST router locates and downloads the firmware and begins the update. 
WARNING:
To avoid the risk of corrupting the firmware, do not interrupt the 
update. For example, do not close the browser, click a link, or load a 
new page. Do not turn off the DST router.
A progress bar shows the progress of the firmware upload process. The firmware upload 
process takes several minutes. When the upload is complete, your DST router restarts. 
Read the new firmware release notes to find out if you must reconfigure the DST router 
after updating.

Manually Upload New Firmware and Update the DST Router
Downloading firmware and updating the DST router are two separate tasks that are 
combined in the following procedure.
To download new firmware manually and update your DST router:
1. Visit support.netgear.com, locate the support page for your product, and download the 
new firmware.
2. Read the new firmware release notes to determine whether you must reconfigure the DST 
router after updating.
3. Launch a web browser from a computer or WiFi device that is connected to the network.
4. Enter http://www.routerlogin.net.
A login window displays.
5. Enter the router user name and password.
The user name is admin. The default password is password. The user name and 
password are case-sensitive.
The BASIC Home page displays.
6. Select ADVANCED > Administration > Router Update.
The Router Update page displays.
7. Locate and select the firmware file on your computer:
a.Click the Browse button.
b. Navigate to the firmware file.
The file ends in .chk. An example of a firmware file name is 
R7300-V1.0.0.26_1.0.6.chk.
c. Select the firmware file.
d. Click the Upload button.
WARNING:

Change the DST Router’s Device Name
You can change the DST router’s device name that displays in the DST router’s and DST 
adapter’s DST Settings pages by logging in to the DST router or DST adapter.

Change the DST Router’s Device Name From the DST Router
To change the DST router’s device name by logging in to the DST router:
1. 
Launch a web browser from a computer or WiFi device that is connected to\
 the network.
2.  Enter  http://www
 .routerlogin.net.
A login window displays.
3.  Enter the DST router user name and password.
The user name is  admin. 
 The default password is password . The user name and 
password are case-sensitive.
The BASIC Home page displays. 
4.  Select  ADV
 ANCED > Advanced Setup > DST Settings .
5. In the DST Router Name  field, enter a new device name for the DST router.
6.  Click the  Apply button.
Your settings are saved.
Change the DST Router’s Device Name from the DST Adapter
You can change the DST router’s device name if you are logged in to the DST adapter.
To change the DST router’s device name by logging in to the DST adapter:
1.  With an Ethernet cable, temporarily connect your computer to the Etherne\
t port on the 
DST adapter

2.  Launch a web browser from the computer
 .
3.  Enter  http://www
 .mywifiext.net.
A login window displays.
4.  Enter  admin  for the user name and password for the password.
The Status page displays.
