Using the Menu 50The message center lets you compose and send text messages. (See ÒEntering TextÓ on page 51.) A flashing cursor shows you where the text will appear: When you enter text, the ßashing cursor changes to a block cursor , and the soft key functions change: Msg: CANCEL BROWSE PressBROWSE (+) to view and insert a name, number, or message from previously stored information. Press CANCEL (-) to exit without making changes. Flashing cursor indicates insertion point. Press Mto open the sub-menu. M Msg: T DELETE OKPress OK (+) to accept and store the text. Press DELETE (-) to delete the character to the left of the insertion point. Block cursor indicates current highlighted character. After two seconds, the block cursor reverts to a ßashing cursor and moves to the next position. M
51 Entering Text Various text entry methods make it easy for you to enter names, numbers, and text messages on your phone. You can enter all characters (letters, numbers, and symbols) using the standard tap method. Other text modes let you easily enter numbers and symbols, or insert text already stored on your phone. Finally, a predictive text mode lets you enter text messages with a minimum of keypresses. Choosing a Text Mode To activate a text mode, press M from any text entry screen and select the text mode from the Entry Method menu: Note: The text mode you select remains active until you change it by selecting another mode. iTAP Let the phone predict each word as you enter it, then choose the word from a list (see ÒPredictive Text Entry with iTAPª SoftwareÓ on page 56). Tap Method Enter characters one at a time by pressing the key for the letter, number, or symbol (see ÒTap MethodÓ on page 52). This is the standard mode for entering text on your phone. Numeric Enter only the number that appears on each key. Symbol Enter symbols only (see ÒSymbol ModeÓ on page 55). Browse Browse through your phonebook and recent calls lists to select a name or number to enter.

53 Entering Text General Text Entry Rules Use the keypad to enter letters, numbers, symbols, and other characters with the tap method. Press the same key repeatedly to cycle through available characters (see the ÒCharacter ChartÓ on page 54): Msg: CANCEL) )BROWSE Press a number key to enter text at ßashing cursor location. Press a number key as many times as necessary to enter the desired character. Press and hold a number key to cycle between tap method and numeric text entry mode. 55 Entering Text Symbol Mode Your phone provides an alternate way to Þnd and enter symbol characters in a text message. You can view and select from a variety of available symbols. To activate symbol mode from any text entry screen, press M and select the Symbol menu option. To enter a symbol in symbol mode: Do ThisTo 1 Press a number key one timedisplay its symbol options (see the ÒSymbol ChartÓ on page 56) The symbols associated with the key you pressed are shown at the bottom of the display. Predictive Text Entry with iTAPª Software iTAPª software provides a predictive text entry method that lets you enter the letters of a word using only one keypress per letter. You must activate iTAP software prior to entering letters. These word choices are updated with each keypress. 3When you have entered all the letters of the word, press S locate and highlight the word you want 4Press SELECT (+) add the highlighted word to the text area at the top of the display A space is automatically inserted after the word.
