    With the high-q uality voic e messaging system DEFINITY AUDIX system 
    Release 4.0, c ustomers d on’t have to answers telep hones, and  they c an 
    exc hang e messag es at times when it is unnec essary or inc onvenient to 
    talk in p erson. The DEFINITY AUDIX system saves valuable offic e spac e 
    and simplifies system ad ministration by resid ing  insid e the c ustomer’s 
    switc h and  sharing  a sing le ad ministration terminal. These features, as 
    well as new enhanc ements for reliability, make the DEFINITY AUDIX 
    system Release 4.0 a desirab le voic e messag ing  solution for c ustomers 
    worldwid e.
    Feature Overview
    The DEFINITY AUDIX system offers many features for c ustomer 
    organizations, ind ividual subsc rib ers, and DEFINITY AUDIX system 
    ad ministrators to help  streamline information exchang e among  
    emp loyees.

    1. AUDIX software uses a voice-encoding algorithm known as

    Savings from A Smaller System
    The spac e the DEFINTY AUDIX system Release 4.0 req uires from the 
    c ustomer’s switc h has d ec reased  from previous releases of the system 
    b y 60%. The system now only requires two universal port slots in the 
    c ustomer’s DEFINITY switc h or one slot in a Comp ac t Modular Cab inet 
    (CMC),
    2 while previous releases req uired five slots.
    For smaller switc hes, suc h as the CMC, a voic e messag ing system that 
    only takes one or two slots c an make exp and ing  the c ustomer’s 
    telec ommunic ations c ap ac ity muc h more effic ient in the long  run. With a 
    two-slot voic e messaging system, c ustomers c an further expand  their 
    telec ommunic ations c ap ac ities—add ing  voic e p orts or loc al area 
    network (LAN) features, for examp le—b efore they must invest in switc h 
    up g rad es. 
    Features for the Subscriber
    Sub sc rib ers c an p erform many tasks with the DEFINITY AUDIX system 
    that make c ommunic ation faster, easier, and  more c onvenient:
    nStore inc oming  and  outg oing  messag es in a voic e mailb ox
    nUse a streamlined  voic e menu to sp eed  throug h c omp lex 
    transac tions
    nPost multiple p ersonal greeting s on the system, whic h 
    sub sc rib ers c an c hang e ac c ord ing  to their availab ility
    nComp ose sp oken messag es with Voic e Mail, whic h they c an 
    send  to one or more other sub sc rib ers on the DEFINITY AUDIX 
    system
    nSend  messag es to many rec ip ients at onc e using  mailing  lists
    nAd d ress voic e mail messages by typ ing  rec ipients’ names, rather 
    than their extensions, on their telep hone keyp ad s
    nAd vance or rewind messag es as they listen
    nRec eive visual notific ation of new messag es with message 
    waiting  ind ic ators (MWIs)—lig hts or d isp lay sc reens on 
    sub sc rib ers’ telephones that ind ic ate new messages
    2. For the system to take one slot, it must b e installed in slot 6.
