Setting up serial printing In serial printing, data is transferred one bit at a time. Although serial printing is usually slower than parallel printing, it is the preferred option when there is a great deal of distance between the printer and computer or when an interface with a better transfer rate is not available. After installing the serial port, you will need to configure the printer and the computer so they can communicate. Make sure you have connected the serial cable to the serial port on your printer. 1Set the parameters in the printer: aFrom the printer control panel, navigate to the menu with port settings. bLocate the submenu with serial port settings. cMake any necessary changes to the serial settings. dSave the new settings. ePrint a menu settings page. 2Install the printer driver: aInsert the Software and Documentation CD. It launches automatically. Loading paper and specialty media This section explains how to load the 500- and 2000-sheet trays, and the multipurpose feeder. It also includes information about paper orientation, setting the Paper Size and Paper Type, and linking and unlinking trays. Setting the Paper Size and Paper Type The Paper Size setting is determined by the position of the paper guides in the tray for all trays except the multipurpose feeder. The Paper Size setting for the multipurpose feeder must be set manually. The factory default Paper Type setting is Plain Paper. The Paper Type setting must be set manually for all trays that do not contain plain paper. 1Make sure the printer is on and Ready appears. 2On the home screen, touch . 3Touch Paper Menu. 4Touch Paper Size/Type. 5Touch the arrows for the desired tray until the correct size or type setting appears. 6Touch Submit. 7Touch to return to the home screen.
