3-2Loading Paper Loading Paper into the Cassette The paper cassette can accommodate A6 (FS-2020D: A5) to A4/Letter and Legal size paper and can hold approximately 500 sheets. 1Pull the paper cassette all the way out of the printer. Standard paper sizes are marked on the inside of the paper cassette. 2Turn the paper size dial so that the size of the paper you are going to use appears in the paper size window. IMPORTANTWhen pulling the cassette ou t of the printer, ensure it is supported and does not fall out. Note When the paper size dial is set to OTHER the paper size must be set into the printer on the operation panel. Refer to the Custom Paper Size section in the Advanced Operation Guide . Loading Paper3-3 3Pull the release lever on the left side guide and slide to the desired paper size. 4If you are going to set paper that is longer than A4, pull out the extension paper cassettes pushing the lock lever one by one and adjust them to the desired paper size. 5Pull the release lever and slide the paper stopper to the desired paper size. When using non-standard size paper, move the paper guides and paper stopper all the way out, insert the paper, then adjust the paper guides and paper stopper to the size of the paper. 3-4Loading Paper 7Place the paper in the paper cassette. Ensure the side to be printed is facing down and the paper is not folded, curled, or damaged. 8Set the stack of paper so that it is under the clips as shown. 9Insert the paper cassette into the slot in the printer. 3-6Loading Paper Loading Paper into MP (Multi-Purpose) Tray The MP tray can accommodate the various paper sizes and can hold approximately 100 sheets of paper. 1Fan the media (paper/transparencies), then tap it on a level surface to avoid media jams or skewed printing. 2Pull the MP tray towards you until it stops. 3Pull out the subtray. 4Adjust the position of the paper guides on the MP tray. Loading Paper3-7 5Align the paper with the paper guides and insert as far as it will go. When loading envelope, place with the envelope flap closed and keep the printing side face-up. Insert envelope against the guide with the flap on the front or left side until they stop. 6Set the MP tray paper size on the printers operation panel. Refer to the Setting MP Tray Paper Size section in the Advanced Operation Guide . Note If the paper is considerably curled in one direction, for example, if the paper is already printed on one side, try to roll the paper in the opposite direction to counteract the curl. 3-8Loading Paper Loading Envelopes into the MP Tray To print on the envelopes, follow the instructions below. 1Open the rear unit. 2Press the green buttons to change the thickness of paper. 3Close the rear unit. 4Follow the steps of Loading Paper into MP (Multi-Purpose) Tray on page 2-6. When loading envelope, place with the envelope flap closed and keep the printing side face-up. Insert envelope against the guide with the flap on the front or left side until they stop. 4-2Connecting and Printing Connections This section explains how to start up the printer. The figure shown below is the overviews of connections between the printer and the computer. Connecting the USB Cable Follow the steps as below for connecting the USB cable. 1Connect the USB cable (not included) to the USB interface connector at the rear of this machine. 2Connect the other end of the USB cable to the computers USB interface connector. Connecting the Network Cable Follow the steps as below for connecting the network cable. 1Remove the cap and connect the shielded network cable (not included) to the computer and the hub (concentrator). 2Connect the other side of the network cable to the network interface connector at the rear of this machine and the hub. Connecting the Parallel Cable Follow the steps as below for connecting the parallel cable. 1Connect the parallel cable to the parallel interface connector at the rear of this machine. 2Connect the other side of the parallel cable to the computer’s interface connector at the rear of this machine. NoteUse a USB cable with a rectangular Type A plug and a square Type B plug. The USB cable should be shielded and no longer than 5 meters (16 feet) long. NoteUse a parallel printer cable that complies with IEEE 1284 standards. For optimum performance, install the printer close to the PC. Connecting and Printing4-3 Connecting the Power Cord Install the printer close to an AC wall outlet. If an extension cord is used, the total length of the power cord plus extension should be 5 meters (16 feet) or less. 1Connect the power cord to the Power Cord Connector at the rear of the printer. 2Connect the other end of the power cord to a power outlet. 3Press the Power Switch to On ( | ). The printer begins to warm up. Note Ensure the printers power switch is off. Only use the power cord supplied with the printer. IMPORTANT If you install the starter toner container and switch on the power, after a moment the message Please wait(Adding toner) is displayed. When the printer is first switched on after tone r installation, there will be a delay of approximately 15 minutes before the printer gets ready to print.
