Replacing Consumables 159 Replacing an Imaging Unit
When replacing an imaging unit, refer to the following table. For optimum print 
quality and performance, use only approved KONICA MINOLTA imaging units 
for your specific machine type, as listed in the table below. You can find your 
machine type and the imaging unit part numbers on the consumables reorder 
label inside the front cover your machine.

Note
Do not touch the OPC drum 
surface. This could lower image 
quality.
You are advised to replace the indicated imaging unit when the mes-
sage 
I-UNIT END/REPLACE X appears.
1Check the message window to see which color imaging unit needs replac-
ing.

3Pull the front lever of the color 
toner cartridge indicated to the 
right.
The replacement procedure for 
the imaging unit is the same for 
all colors (yellow: Y, magenta: M, 
cyan: C, and black: K).
The following instructions show 
the procedure to replace the 
toner cartridge (K).
4Lower the lever to release the 
lock.
5Press down the area marked 
“Push” on the imaging unit to be 
replaced, and then slide the unit 
all the way out of the machine.

Dispose of the used imaging unit according to your local regulations.
Do not burn the imaging unit.
6Check the color of the new imaging unit to be installed.
In order to prevent toner from spilling, leave the imaging unit in the 
bag until step 5 is being performed.
7Remove the imaging unit from 
the bag.
8Hold the imaging unit with both 
hands, and then shake it twice 
as shown in the illustration.

the bag; otherwise, the

9Remove all packing tape from 
the imaging unit.
10Remove the protective cover 
from the imaging unit. The pro-
tective cover slides after having 
turned.
11Make sure that the new imaging 
unit to be installed is the same 
color as the machine compart-
ment, and then install the imag-
ing unit in the machine.

12Raise the front lever to its origi-
nal position.
13Pull the lever to the left to lock it 
in place.
The front lever should be 
securely returned to its 
original position; other-
wise, the front cover of 
the machine cannot be 
closed.

When the waste toner bottle becomes full, the message WASTE TONER 
FULL/REPLACE BOTTLE 
appears in the message window. The machine 
stops and will not start again until the waste toner bottle is replaced.
1Open the machine’s front cover.
2Turn the dial on the waste toner 
bottle counterclockwise until it is 
in the unlock position.

3Open the left and right handles 
of the waste toner bottle.
4Grab the left and right handles of 
the waste toner bottle, and then 
slowly pull out the bottle.
Be careful since some 
waste toner may spill if 
the lock is closed when 
the waste toner bottle is 
removed.
5Remove the new waste toner bottle from its packaging. Insert the used 
waste toner bottle into the plastic bag included in the box, and then box it 
up.

6Slide the waste toner bottle all 
the way into the machine.
7Turn the dial clockwise until the
