GETTING STARTED • Remove all packing material\f and any stickers \brom the product; remove and save literature. • Please go to www.prodprotect.com/applica to register your warranty; \bor additional in\bormation about your Juiceman ® Express Jr. go to www.juiceman.com. • Your appliance is partially assembled in the box. Take the appliance apart and wash all removable parts as instructed in CARE AND CLEANING section o\b this man\pual. This will remove any traces o\b dust or residue le\bt \brom manu\bacturing and shippin\pg. Note: The blades are covered by 2 plastic sleeves. Do not discard; instead\f save them to store the blade sa\bely and help to retain its sharpness. Important: Handle the blades very carefully. They are very sharp. We suggest handling the blad\ces by the center post. • Select a level dry countertop where the appliance is to be used\f allowing air space on all sides to provide proper ventilation \bor the motor. 67 How to Use CONTROL BUTTONS FOR THE JUICE EXTRA\cCTOR The control buttons are located on the \bront o\b the base. Press Low or High to select your desired speed. Re\ber to the SPEED CHART to help select the right speed \bor your produce. Note: The Per\bect Prep™ button is not recommended \bor use with the jui\pce extractor. Low Use Low speed \bor so\bter produce like berries\f citrus \br\puits\f lea\by vegetables and so\bt-skinned pr\poduce such as peaches\f pl\pums and cucumbers. High Use High speed \bor harder produce like rind-on melons and pineapple\f beets and ginger. Off The juice extractor will run continuously until the O\b\b butt\pon is pressed. The appliance should be stored in O\b\b position a\pnd unplugged when n\pot in use. IMPORTANT: Always press the OFF button before plugging in the a\cppliance. PURCHASING AND STORING INGREDIENTS • Always use \bresh \bully ripened \bruits an\pd vegetables. • When purchasing\f consider selecting \bruits and v\pegetables in season \bor best \breshness and flavor. • Choose \bruits that ar\pe plump\f tender and have bright color. Fruits should be heavy \bor their size witho\put bruises\f cuts or\p blemishes. • To ripen \bruit\f place in a small clean paper bag. Close the bag loosely and let stand at room temperature. (To speed ripening\f ad\pd a ripe apple or banana to the bag.) Once ripened\f store in the re\brigerator \bor a day or two until ready to use. • Store perishable vegetables in the re\brigerator until ready to use. PREPARING FRUITS AND V\cEGETABLES • Wash \bruits and vegetables thoroughly just be\bore using in the juic\pe extractor\f using a natural bristle brush. The ski\pn can be le\bt on all produce with the exception o\b: o All citrus \bruits\f \pincluding • Oranges • Grape\bruit • Lemons • Limes • Tangerines Note: The oil in the ski\pn o\b these \bruits tastes bitter and is di\bficult \pto digest. Hint: Although the skin \pmay be le\bt on melons and pineapple\f you may choose to remove them to maximize the \brui\pt flavor in the finished d\prink. • All pits and large seeds should be \premoved\f including: o Apricots o Cherries o Nectarines o Mangoes o Peaches o Plums o Melons • Remove and discard outer leaves o\b non-organic produce. Peel away any wax coatings. • Trim any bruised or \pdiscolored sections o\b \brui\pts and vegetables • The design o\b the \beed chute accommodates larger produce. It will easily accommodate most whole \bruits and vegetables\f such as apples\f beets and carrots. I\b necessary\f cut into large pieces be\bore inserting into \beed tube. • Be sure all parts o\b the j\puice extractor are clean and dry. See CLEANING instructions on page 1\p3. ASSEMBLING THE JUICE\c EXTRACTOR 1. Place the juice extractor base over the motor base with the arrow on the juice extractor base directly above the unlock symbol on the motor base. Turn the juice extractor base counterclockwise until it locks into position (A). The arrow will now be above the lock symbol on the motor base. 2. With both hands\f hold\p the stainless steel mesh filter by the rim and c\penter it over the drive sha\bt. Lower the filter into the juice extractor base\f rotating it clockwise until it d\props into place. You will hear it sna\pp when it is engage\pd (B). Important: The cutting bl\cades at the bottom of the filter are very sharp. Always handle the filter by the rim. Note: When properly assembled\f the filter will spin \breely inside the juice extractor base. This can be checked by spinning the fi\plter by the rim. 3. Place the lid on the ju\pice extractor base so that the sa\bety lock tab is to the right o\b the s\pa\bety lock latch. Rotate the lid counterclockwise until the bar snaps into the latch (C). Important: Always press the OFF button to make sure the appliance is off before securing the lid.\c 4. Tilt the pulp container slightly and place it directly under the pulp spo\put. Push the bottom o\b the pulp container so it rests against the side o\b the motor base (D). Hint: To make cleanup more convenient\f line the pulp container with a small \pplastic bag to collect the pulp. 5. Place a glass or a measuring c\pup under the juice spout to collect the juice (E). 6. Place the \bood pusher into the \beed chute. Important: For your protection, this applia\cnce has an interlock system. The juice extractor will not operate unless the lid is properly locked in place. B C D E A
1011 HOW TO USE JUICE EXTRACTOR 1. Follow the instructions on pages \p8 and 9 to assemble the juice extractor. 2. Assemble the prepared \bruits and/or vegetables to be used on the counter or in a bowl next to the juice extractor. 3. Place a clean glass \bor your juice under the juice spout (F). 4. Be sure the pulp container is in place. 5. Plug appliance into standard electrical outlet. 6. Turn the power to the Low setting and allow to run 10 seconds be\bore placing any \bood into the \beed chute. 7. To use High\f allow the appliance to run 10 seconds on Low\f then select High and place the \bood in the \beed chute. Note: Use the RECOMMENDED\p SPEEDS guide to help determine your speed setting. 8. Use the \bood pusher as a gui\pde to gently direct the produce through the \beed chute. To get the most juice \brom the \bruits and v\pegetables\f do not rush the \bood through the appliance (G). Note: When using the appl\piance\f do not allow the pulp container to overfill. This may cause the appliance to stall. 9. To empty the pulp container or the juice glass during use\f simply turn the appliance O\b\b. Allow the motor to come to a complete stop and \bor all juices to finish dripping \brom the spout be\bore emptying. Be sure to replace pulp container and juice glass be\bore resuming extraction. 10. Unplug the appliance when not in use. Important: Never place fingers or hands into the feed chute. 121\b HINTS AND TIPS FOR YOUR JUICE EXTRACTOR • Do not put \bood into the juice extractor be\bore turning the applia\pnce on. • Let the appliance run \bor at least 10 seconds be\bore placing any \bood into the \beed chute. • Do not let the pulp container or juice glass overfill while using the machine\p. Turn the appliance o\b\b\f wait \bor the motor to stop running and any \pjuice to stop flowing. Empty the jui\pce glass and/or pulp container. Be sure they are properly replaced be\bore resuming operation o\b the extractor. • When processing di\b\berent \bruits and vegetables\f process the so\bt \boods on Low speed first; \bollow with the \bruits an\pd vegetables that use the Hig\ph speed. • When processing lea\by vegetables\f such as parsley and herbs\f add the\p herbs between the harder \boods. • For easy clean up\f place a plastic bag inside the \ppulp container be\bore using the appliance. • When processing small \bruits\f \plike grapes\f add them in ha\pnd\buls. • Beets and pomegranates stain easily; process them last and wash all part\ps be\bore making another ju\pice drink. • Do not process bananas\f avocados or coconut. They have no juice and will clog the appliance. • Be sure to remove all pits and large seeds \brom \bruits. • To make delicious citrus\p juice\f peel the \bruit\f removing all the white pith. Re\brigerate till cold and process the \bruit through the extractor \bor a great drink. • For maximum nutriti\ponal benefits drink \pyour processed juice right away. Tip for optimum juicing:\c Avoid excessive build up o\b pulp on\p the underside o\b the lid. USES FOR THE PULP Tip: The pulp \brom the \bruits and v\pegetables is high in nutri\ptional value. • Use it to add fiber and flavor to mu\bfins and quick \pbreads. • Use it to thicken soups\f casseroles and sauces. • Use \bruit pulp to add nutrition an\pd flavor to desserts\f such as\f pudd\pings and cakes. • Be sure to use it the same d\pay you extract the juice. • Pulp is also \bood \bor your garden. Use it \bor compost.Care and Cleaning This product contains no user servi\pceable parts. Re\ber service to qualified service personnel. Important: Always unplug your appliance from the outlet before cleaning. CLEANING 1. Unplug your Juiceman® Express Jr. and disassemble. 2. Using a sponge or d\pamp cloth\f clean the base\f rubber \p\beet and underside o\b the motor base. I\b necessary\f you may use a damp t\poothbrush or cloth to clean juice \brom the inside o\b the\p drive sha\bt (on top o\b motor base). Important: Do not immerse the base in wat\cer or spray with water. Clean only by wiping with a d\camp sponge, cloth or paper towel. 3. All parts – except the base – are dishwasher-sa\be (top-rack only) or you may wash in warm\p\f soapy water\f using any mild \pliquid dishwashing \p detergent. Do not use a\pny products containing ammonia or \pscouring powders\f as these can dull\f scratch or mar the sur\bace. Use the cleaning brush provided to remove pulp le\bt on any o\b the removable parts. Do not use metal brushes or pads. 4. To clean the filter\f use cleaning brush provided to make sure the tiny holes in the mesh filter are not clogged. This can be accomplished by holding\p filter under a running\p \baucet while brushing the mesh \pscreen \brom both the inside and outside\p o\b the filter. Tip: Pulp \brom pulp container can be used in many \pdi\b\berent ways: making breads\f mu\bfins\f cakes\f soup stocks\f compressed \bacial packs and gar\pden compost material. REMOVING TOUGH STAINS 1. Due to power\bul staining properties o\b carotenoids \bound in many vegetables\f particularly carrots\f we suggest soaking any stained parts overnight in one o\b t\phe \bollowing solutions: • Biodegradable soap in enough wa\prm water to cover juice extractor parts • ¼ cup bleach added to a sink \bull o\b wa\prm water • 1 part warm water to 1 part cider vine\pgar • ½ small box o\b baking soda in\p enough warm water to cover juicer parts. Important: Never use ammonia or \cabrasive cleansers! 2. A\bter soaking overnight\f lightly scrub with so\bt br\pistle brush and liquid \p detergent. STORAGE Store your appliance in a clean\f dry place. Never wrap cord tightly around the appliance. Do not put any s\ptress on cord where it enters the motor base\f as this could cause cord to \bray and break.
1415 TROUBLESHOOTING FOR THE JUICE EXTRACTOR PROBLEM POSSIBLE CAUSE SOLUTION Juice extractor will not start when speed button is depressed. The juice extractor portion o\b the appliance may not be assembled correctly.Check the ASSEMBLY instructions \bound on pages 8 and 9. The motor o\b the juice extractor seems to be struggling. • Pulp container may be \bull. • Pulp may have collected under the lid. • The speed selected may not be correct • Turn o\b\b the appliance. Empty the pulp container. Do not allow the pulp container to get too \bull. • Turn o\b\b and unplug the appliance. Disassemble the appliance and take o\b\b the lid. Wash thoroughly and return to appliance \bollowing the assembly instructions. • Check the RECOMMENDED SPEED guide on pages 10 and 11. The juice extractor has stopped producing juice. The \bilter basket may be blocked. Turn o\b\b and unplug the appliance. Disassemble the appliance and take o\b\b the lid. Wash thoroughly and return to appliance \bollowing the assembly instructions. The juice extractor is not producing as much juice as expected. High \biber \bruits and vegetables may be clogging the \bilter.Turn o\b\b and unplug the appliance. Disassemble the appliance and take o\b\b the lid. Wash thoroughly and return to appliance \bollowing the assembly instructions. Appliance stops running. Motor may be overheating.Unplug appliance and allow it to cool approximately 5 minutes be\bore continuing use. NOTES OVERHEAT PROTECTION SYSTEM Important: This appliance contains a PTC overheat protection system. When the appliance is being operated for too long or with too much load, the PTC protector will shut down the power of the appliance to protect the unit. If th\ce power shuts down, unplug for 20 minutes and plug in for normal operation.

The Per\bect Prep™ \bunction works like a pulse \bunction \pand is per\bect \bor short and precise tasks. It lets you control the size and uni\p\bormity o\b the \boods being chopped. • The Per\bect Prep™ button must be pressed and held \bor the appliance to operate. When released\f the appliance will stop. Do not use the \p Per\bect Prep™ button longer than 2 minutes continuously. • The motor runs as long as this button is held down. Press the button down and then release; allow the blades to stop running and the \p\bood to \ball to the bottom o\b the workbowl be\bore pressing again. • This \bunction gives better control when chopping\f min\pcing\f mixing and blending \boods. You can control the size o\b the \b\poods \brom coarse to fine. High\fLow Speed Control • When either speed is\p selected\f the processor will run continuously until the O\b\b button is pressed. • These speeds are used \bor chopping\f blending\f dressings\f sauces and making batters. IMPORTANT: Always press the OFF button before plugging in the a\cppliance. CUTTING BLADES The workbowl comes with two blades (see callouts 7 and 8 on pa\cge 16): • The “S” blade can be used \bor chopping vegetables and \bruits\f minc\ping cooked meats\f grinding \pco\b\bee beans and nuts a\pnd making cookie and bread crumbs. 87 2 3 5 6 1 4
1819 • The flat blade can be used \bor: o Grinding co\b\bee beans (up to 2 cups- approximately 5 oz) o Grinding nuts (up t\po 1 cup- approximately 4 oz) o Making bread and cookie crumbs (up to 2 cups- approximately 5 oz) ASSEMBLING THE WORKBOWL 1. Place the workbowl on the motor base so the arrow on the workbowl is placed directly over the unlock symbol on the motor base. 2. Hold handle and rotate workbowl counterclockwise toward the lock symbol until it cl\picks firmly into place (H). Note: Be sure to lock the workbowl in place be\bore attaching your desired blade blade and \plid. 3. Hold selected blade by center sha\bt and insert\p onto center post by pushing straight down (J). Important: The blades are very sharp. Use caution when handling and s\ctoring. 4. Place the lid on the workbowl so that the sa\bety lock tab is to the right o\b the s\pa\bety lock latch (K). The lock/unlock / symbols will be \bacing you and \beed chute will be to the back o\b the app\pliance. Important: For your protection this applian\cce has an interlock system. The processor will not operate unless the lid is properly locked in place. Important: Always press the OFF button to make sure the appliance is off before securing the lid.\c 5. Hold \beed chute and rotate lid counterclockwise until lid locks into place. 6. Place the cap into the \beed chute. 7. The \beed chute cap can be removed when adding liqu\pid or additional \boods while the appliance is running. USING THE WORKBOWL The workbowl is used to coarsely or finely chop\f mince\f mix and puree \boods to a smooth consistency. Use the workbowl to chop \bresh and cooked \bruits and vegetables\f cooked meats\f fish and po\pultry; to make pastry; and to make bread\f cookie and cracker crumbs. 1. Follow the directions on above to assemble the workbowl parts o\b the appliance. 2. Place \bood in workbowl. 3. Place lid on workbowl and lock into place by rotating lid counterclockwise. 4. Place \beed chute cap in place on top o\b the \beed chute. Caution: Never use your fingers to direct food through the chute. 5. Select Per\bect Prep™\f Low or High \bor desired speed. Note: Process \boods no more than a \bew seconds at a time. The\p Per\bect Prep™ \bunction produces excellent results and o\b\bers greater control. 6. To add \bood while processor is running remove \beed chute cap and insert \bood through the \beed chute. Replace \beed chute cap in the \beed chute. Important: Be sure the blade has completely stopped spinning bef\core removing the lid from the workbowl. 7. When finished\f press the O\b\b button and allow blades to stop revolving be\bore removing lid. Twist the lid toward the unlock symbol to remove. 8. To unlock workbowl turn it clockwise toward the unlock symbol and li\bt o\b\b motor base. Note: Remove the workbowl \brom the appliance be\bore removing the blade to prevent \bood \brom leaking through the center opening o\b the bo\pwl. 9. Care\bully remove the blade by the c\penter post and empty workbowl. 10. Unplug appliance when not in use. HINTS AND TIPS FOR YOUR WORKBOWL • The processor works very quickly. • Watch care\bully to avoid over-processing \boods. • The Per\bect Prep™ button o\b\bers the best control and results. • For best results\f use \boods that are about the same si\pze. • It is recommended that \bood is cut into ½-inch pieces. • Do not overload the workbowl. o Do not process more than 2 cups (500 \pml) o\b \bood in the workbowl at one time. o To chop meat\f use no \pmore than 2 cups (approximately 8 oz.) o\b cooked meat cut into ½-inch cubes and\p process using the Per\bect Prep™ button in 2 second intervals. Important: When chopping \cmeat, always make sure it is at room temperature to ensure optimal performance. • Never walk away \brom the appliance while it is on. • To avoid splattering\f use a \bunnel\p inserted into the \beed chute when adding ingredients\f such as oi\pl\f flour and sugar.
