Intheunlikelyeventthatitisnecessary,settingtheiLO2SecurityOverrideswitchalsoenables youtoflashtheiLO2bootblock.ThebootblockisexposeduntiliLO2isreset.HPrecommends thatyoudisconnectiLO2fromthenetworkuntiltheresetiscomplete. Dependingontheserver,theiLO2SecurityOverrideswitchmightbeasinglejumperoritmight beaspecificswitchpositiononadipswitchpanel.ToaccesstheiLO2SecurityOverrideswitch, refertotheserverdocumentation. Ifthemousestillfailstooperatecorrectly,orifthissituationoccursfrequently,verifythatyour mousesettingsmatchthoserecommendedin“OptimizingmouseperformanceforRemoteConsole orIntegratedRemoteConsole”(page88). RemoteConsolenolongeropensontheexistingbrowsersession WiththeadditionoftheTerminalServicespassthroughfunction,thebehavioroftheRemoteConsole appletisslightlydifferentfrompreviousversionsofiLO2firmware.IfaRemoteConsolesession isalreadyopenandtheRemoteConsolelinkisclickedagain,thentheRemoteConsolesession doesnotrestart.TheRemoteConsolesessionmightappearfrozen. Forexample,ifthefollowingstepsareexecuted: 1.FromClient-1,logintoiLO2andopenaremoteconsolesession. 2.FromClient-2,logintoiLO2andtrytoopenaRemoteConsolesession.Thefollowingmessage displays: Remote console is already opened by another session ThisisexpectedbecauseonlyoneRemoteConsolesessionissupportedatatime. 3.ReturntoClient-1andclosetheRemoteConsolesession. 4.FromClient-2,clicktheRemoteConsolelinkwiththeoldRemoteConsoleappletstillopen. Theremoteconsolesessiondoesnotrefreshandtheoldmessagediscussedinstep2isstill displayed. AlthoughthisbehaviorisdifferentthaninpreviousversionsofiLOfirmware,thisisexpected behaviorinthisversionoftheiLOfirmware.Toavoidissuesofthisnature,alwayscloseanopen remoteconsolesessionpriortotryingtoreopenit. Remoteconsoletextwindownotupdatingproperly WhenusingtheRemoteConsoletodisplaytextwindowsthatscrollatahighrateofspeed,the textwindowmightnotupdateproperly.Thiserroriscausedbyvideoupdatesoccurringquicker thantheiLO2firmwarecandetectanddisplaythem.Typically,onlytheupperleftcornerofthe textwindowupdateswhiletherestofthetextwindowremainsstatic.Afterthescrollingiscomplete, clickRefreshtoproperlyupdatethetextwindow. OneknownexampleofthisissueisduringtheLinuxbootingandpostingprocess,inwhichsome ofthePOSTmessagescanbelost.Apossibleresultisthatakeyboardresponseisrequestedby thebootprocessandmightbemissed.Toavoidthisissue,thebootingandpostingprocessmust besloweddownbyeditingtheLinuxstartupscripttoallowmoretimeforkeyboardresponses. RemoteConsoleturnsgrayorblack TheRemoteConsolescreenturnsgrayorblackwhentheserverisrebootedfromtheTerminal Servicesclient.Thescreenremainsgrayorblackfor30secondstooneminute.Theclientcloses becausetheTerminalServicesserverisnotavailable.TheiLO2remoteconsoletakesover,but theRemoteConsolescreenturnsgrayorblack.Whenthescreenreturns,theRemoteConsole functionsnormally. RemoteSerialConsoletroubleshooting TheRemoteSerialConsoleoptionreliesontheVirtualSerialPort.TheVirtualSerialPortmustbe correctlyenabledandconfiguredinthehostRBSU.YoucanaccesstheVirtualSerialPortusing SSHorTelnet(ifenabled).YoucanaccesstheCLPfromahostserialsessioniftheUARTand VirtualSerialPortsharethesamesettings.ToaccesstheCLPfromahostserialsessionenterEsc-( (escapeleft-parentheses)toswitchtothecommand-lineinterpreter. OutofMemoryerrorstartingIntegratedRemoteConsole TheclientsystemcanrunoutofmemoryiftoomanyIRCsessionsareopenedatonetime.Every IRCsessionrequiresatleast16MBofmemoryforscreenbufferspaceandVirtualFoldercanuse about100MB.IfamessageboxappearswhenstartingtheIRC,notenoughmemoryisavailable ontheclienttobufferthescreendata.Forexample: Tocorrectthesetypesoferrors,closesomeIRCsessionsoraddmemorytotheclientmachineto allowmoresessionstobeopensimultaneously. InactiveIRC TheiLO2IRCmightbecomeinactiveordisconnectedduringperiodsofhighactivity.Theissueis indicatedbyaninactiveIRC.IRCactivityslowsbeforebecominginactive.Symptomsofanaffected IRCinclude: •TheIRCdisplaydoesnotupdate. •Keyboardandmouseactivityarenotrecorded. •SharedRemoteConsolerequestsdonotregister. •TheVirtualMediaconnectiondisplaysanempty(blank)virtualmediadevice. AlthoughyoucanreplayacapturedfileonaninactiveIRC,theactivestateoftheIRCisnot restored. ThisissuemightoccurwhenmultipleusersareloggedintoiLO2,aVirtualMediasessionis connectedandisperformingacontinuouscopyoperation,oranIRCsessionisopen.TheVirtual Mediacontinuouscopyoperationtakespriority,and,consequently,theIRClosessynchronization. Eventually,theVirtualMediaconnectionresetsmultipletimesandcausestheoperatingsystemUSB mediadrivetolosesynchronizationwiththeVirtualMediaclient. Toworkaroundthisissue,reconnecttotheIRCandtheVirtualMedia.Ifpossible,reducethe numberofsimultaneoususersessionstoiLO2.Ifnecessary,resetiLO2(theserverdoesnotneed tobereset). IRCFailedtoconnecttoservererrormessage iLO2mightissuethemessageFailed to connect to serverwhenattemptingtoestablish anIRCsession.VerifyanavailableTelnetconnection. TheiLO2IRCclientwaitsaspecifiedamountoftimeforanIRCconnectiontobeestablishedwith iLO2.Iftheclientserverdoesnotreceivearesponseinthisamountoftime,itissuesanerror message. Possiblecausesforthismessageinclude: •Thenetworkresponseisdelayed. •Asharedremoteconsolesessionisrequested,buttheremoteconsolesessionleaderdelays sendinganacceptanceordenialmessage. Toworkaroundthisissue,retrytheIRCconnection.Ifpossible,correctthenetworkdelayandretry theIRCconnection.Iftherequestwasforasharedremoteconsolesession,attempttocontactthe sessionleaderandretrytherequest.IftheremoteconsoleAcquirefunctionisenabled,usethe Acquirebuttonratherthanrequestingasharedremoteconsolesession. IRCtoolbariconsdonotupdate WhenconnectingtotheIRConiLO2version1.30,anIRCobject(iLO2RemoteConsoleapplet) isinstalledinthebrowser.TheobjectincludestoolbariconsfornewfeaturesincludediniLO2 version1.30.WhenbrowsingtoiLO2version1.29orearlier,theIRCobjectisnotreplacedby theversionincludedwiththeearlierfirmware.Asaresult,toolbariconsappearforfeaturesincluded iniLO2version1.30thatarenotavailableinearlierversions.Ifyouclickonanicon,anerror messagemightappear. GNOMEinterfacedoesnotlock TerminatinganiLO2RemoteConsoleorlosingiLO2networkconnectivitydoesnotlockthe GNOMEinterfacewheniLO2andtheGNOMEinterfaceareconfiguredfortheRemoteConsole Lockfeature. TheGNOMEkeyboardhandlerrequirestimetoprocesskeysequencesthatcontainmodifier keystrokes.ThisissuedoesnotoccurwhenkeysequencesareenteredmanuallythroughtheIRC, butitbecomesanissuewhenthekeysequenceissentbyiLO2.Thekeysequencewithkeystroke modifierissentbyiLO2fasterthantheGNOMEkeyboardhandlercanprocessit. AworkaroundforthisissueistousetheLinuxKDEGUIinsteadofGNOME.TheKDEkeystroke handlerdoesnottakeanexcessivelylongtimetoprocesskeysequencesthatcontainmodifier keys.BothKDEandGNOMEinterfacesshipwithalldistributionsofLinux. RepeatingkeysontheRemoteConsole WhenusingtheRemoteConsoleundercertainconditionsofnetworklatency,youcanregister multiplekeypressesforasinglekeypress.Formoreinformation,see“RemoteConsolesettings” (page81). Userinterfaceisnotdisplayingcorrectly OnProLiantserversusingRedHatEL4.0andsomeotherLinuxsystemsandiLO2,thetextonthe buttonsoftheuserinterfacemightbecutoffalongthebottomofthebutton.Thiserroroccurs becauseMozillaFirefoxdoesnotdisplaythetextsizethatiLO2specifiesforthebuttons.Todisplay thetextcorrectly,selectView>TextSize>Decreaseuntilthetextappearscorrectly. ViewingtheLinuxinstallerinthetextconsole WheninstallingLinuxusingthetextconsole,theinitialinstallscreenmightnotdisplaybecausethe screenisingraphicsmode.Tocorrectthisandproceedwiththeinstallation,doonethefollowing: •FormostversionsofLinux,enterlinux text nofb.Thecharactersyouenterwillnotdisplay. Thesemultipleloginscanconfusethebrowser.ThisconfusioncanappearasaniLO2issue; however,thisisamanifestationoftypicalbrowserbehavior. Severalprocessescancauseabrowsertoopenadditionalwindows.Browserwindowsopened fromwithinanopenbrowserrepresentdifferentaspectsofthesameprograminmemory. Consequently,eachbrowserwindowsharespropertieswiththeparent,includingcookies. Sharedinstances WheniLO2opensanotherbrowserwindow,forexample,RemoteConsole,VirtualMedia,or Help,thiswindowsharesthesameconnectiontoiLO2andthesessioncookie. TheiLO2WebservermakesURLdecisionsbasedoneachrequestreceived.Forexample,ifa requestdoesnothaveaccessrights,itisredirectedtotheloginpage,regardlessoftheoriginal request.Webserverbasedredirection,selectingFile>New>WindoworpressingtheCtrl+Nkeys, opensaduplicateinstanceoftheoriginalbrowser. Cookieorderbehavior Duringlogin,theloginpagebuildsabrowsersessioncookiethatlinksthewindowtotheappropriate sessioninthefirmware.ThefirmwaretracksbrowserloginsasseparatesessionslistedintheActive SessionssectionoftheiLO2Statuspage. Forexample,whenUser1logsin,theWebserverbuildstheinitialframesview,withcurrentuser: User1inthetoppane,menuitemsintheleftpane,andpagedatainthelower-rightpane.As User1clicksfromlinktolink,onlythemenuitemsandpagedataareupdated. WhileUser1isloggedin,ifanotheruser,User2,opensanotherbrowserwindowonthesame clientandlogsin,thesecondloginoverwritesthecookiegeneratedintheoriginalUser1session. AssumingthatUser2isadifferentuseraccount,adifferentcurrentframeisbuilt,andanewsession isgranted.ThesecondsessionappearsintheActiveSessionssectionoftheiLO2Statuspageas currentuser:User2. Thesecondloginhaseffectivelyorphanedthefirstsession(User1)bywipingoutthecookie generatedduringUser1'slogin.ThisbehavioristhesameasclosingUser1'sbrowserwithout clickingtheLogOutlink.User1'sorphanedsessionisreclaimedwhenthesessiontimeoutexpires. Becausethecurrentuserframeisnotrefreshedunlessthebrowserisforcedtorefreshtheentire page,User1cancontinuenavigatingusinghisorherbrowserwindow.However,thebrowseris nowoperatingusingUser2'ssessioncookiesettings,eventhoughitisnotreadilyapparent.
