4.Connect the DSL filter to the parallel splitter.
5. Connect the DSL modem to the parallel splitter.
6. Connect the parallel sp litter to the wall jack.
7. Run a fax test.
When the phone rings, the printer automatically answers after the number of rings you set in the
Rings to Answer  setting. The printer begins emi tting fax reception tones to the sending fax machine
and receives the fax.

want to connect a phone to the b ack of your answering machine a t the "OUT" port.
NOTE:If your answering machine does n ot let you connect an external phone, you can
purchase and use a parallel splitt er (also known as a coupler) to connect both the answering
machine and telephone to the prin ter. You can use standard phone cords for these connections.

Case K: Shared voice/fax line wi th computer dial-up modem and v oice mail
If you receive both voice calls  and fax calls at the same phone number, use a computer dial-up
modem on the same phone line, and subscribe to a voice mail service through your telephone
company, set up the printer as described in this section.

To set up the printer on the same phone line as a computer with two phone ports
1. Remove the white plug from the  port labeled 2-EXT on the back o f the printer.
2. Find the phone cord that connects from the back of your compute r (your computer dial-up
modem) to a telephone wall jack. D isconnect the cord from the telephone wall jack and plug it
into the port labeled 2-EXT on the back of the printer.
3. Connect a phone to the "OUT" port on the back of your computer dial-up modem.

Test fax setup
You can test your fax setup to check the status of the printer and to make sure it is set up correctly for
faxing. Perform this test after y ou have completed setting up t he printer for faxing. The test does the
following:
● Tests the fax hardware
● Verifies the correct type of ph
one cord is connected to the pri nter
● Checks that the phone cord is plugged into the correct port
● Checks for a dial tone
● Checks for an active phone line
● Tests the status of your phone line connection
