to get started, and describes how to fax, make copies, and maintain your 
HP Fax 1230 series (HP Fax). To get started, review this section for information

Use the front panel buttons to copy and fax documents or photos, and to change 
a variety of copy and fax settings.
Review the illustration below and identify the location of the buttons on the front 
panel.

1One-touch speed-dial buttons: Enter and label speed-dial numbers for quick 
access. 
2Auto Answer light: If lit, automatic answering is on. 
3Auto Answer button: Turn automatic answering for HP Fax on or off.
4Speed Dial button: Access speed-dial numbers.
5Redial/Pause button: Dial the last number again, or insert a pause in a number 
to be dialed.
6Keypad: Dial fax numbers or enter text. 
7Star/Symbols key: Enter punctuation characters or use as directed in voice mail.
8Pound/Space key: Enter spaces or use as directed in voice mail.
9Fax button: Press to begin the faxing process.
10Start, Black button: Start a black-and-white fax or copy.
11Scan & Fax button: Press to scan originals into memory before faxing.
12Start, Color button: Start a color fax or copy.
13Copy button: Press to begin the copy process.
14Resolution button: Press to change the resolution for faxes and copies.
