To help prevent the motorcycle f rom f alling over, park it on a f irm, level surf ace, using the side stand or a maintenance stand to provide support. To reduce the possibility of a f ire or explosion, be caref ul when working around gasoline. Use only non-f lammable solvent, not gasoline, to clean parts. Keep cigarettes, sparks, and flames away from all fuel-related parts. Make sure the engine is of f bef ore you begin any maintenance or repairs. This will help eliminate several potential hazards: Be sure there is adequate ventilation whenever you operate the engine. Let the engine and exhaust system cool bef ore touching. LightsCheck the air pressure with a gauge and add air if needed (page ). Examine the tread for wear (page ). Look closely f or nails, embedded objects, cuts, and other types of damage (page ). Roll your motorcycle so you can inspect the entire surface. Check the condition of the wheels. Check the levels of the engine oil (page ), coolant (page ), brake f luid (page ), clutch f luid (page ), and f inal drive oil (page ).
