Replacing the hard drive kit

8Slide the old hard drive kit out of your notebook.
9If your new hard drive already includes the hard drive kit bracket, go to 
Step 14.
-OR-
If you need to move the hard drive kit bracket from your old hard drive 
to your new hard drive, go to Step 10.

10Remove the two screws that secure the hard drive to the hard drive kit 
bracket.
11Remove the bracket from the old drive.
12Insert the new drive into the bracket so the screw holes line up.
13Replace the two screws that secure the bracket to the drive.
14Place the new hard drive kit into the bay and slide it into the connector.
15Replace the screws that secure the hard drive kit to your notebook.

16Insert the battery and turn your notebook over.
17Reattach the optional port replicator.
18Connect the power adapter and modem and network cables, then turn on 
your notebook.

Gateway 405
Port Replicator
The optional port replicator gives you a convenient way to 
attach external devices such as a monitor, a full-size 
keyboard, or an AC adapter.
Although devices can be attached directly to the ports on 
the notebook, the port replicator lets you make all of those 
connections in one step. The port replicator also gives you 
access to additional ports not found on the notebook.

PS/2 keyboard port Plug a PS/2 keyboard into this port. Attaching a PS/2 
keyboard to your port replicator may deactivate the 
built-in keyboard.
PS/2 mouse port Plug a PS/2 mouse into this port. Attaching a PS/2 
mouse to your port replicator may deactivate the 
touchpad.
USB  ports Plug USB (Universal Serial Bus) devices (such as a USB

Connecting to the port replicator
You can attach your notebook to the port replicator while your notebook is 
off, on, or in Standby mode.
Attaching to the port replicator
To attach your notebook to the port replicator:
1Connect external devices to the ports on the port replicator.
2Align the connector holes on the bottom of your notebook with the 
docking posts on the port replicator.
