4.(A,B&C)Cockthehammer. Lookatthetopofthereceiverand makesuretheplungerleverisdown (forward),tipthereceiverforwardto keepitdownasyouruntheslide ontothereceiver;(SeeFigure14). Lookthroughtheslidestopholein thesideofthereceiver.Movethe slidealongthereceiveruntilyou seetheholeinthebarrellinklineup withtheholeinthesideofthe receiver.Inserttheslidestop throughtheholeuntilitisalmost home;(SeeFigure15). Continuepushingthesliderearward untilthedisassemblynotchlinesup withtherearpartoftheslidestop. 5.(A&B)Restpistolontableorbenchwithmuzzlepointingupward. 6.(Aonly)Pushslidebackabout%inch,pressdownonrecoilspringplug, compressingtherecoilspringintotheslideuntiltheplugisfullyhome,then rotatethebarrelbushing.Alignthearchedpartofthebushingsothatit straddlestherecoilspringplugandlocksitinplace. 6.(Bonly)Placerecoilspringplugoverendofrecoilsprings.Alignlugonrecoil springplugwithaccessslotinslideandpushtheplugintotheslideusinga screwdriver.Nowturntheplug%turnuntilthelugonthepluglocksintothe lockingslotonthebottomoftheslide. Installthebarrelbushingovertherecoilspringplugandintotheslide.Press downontherecoilspringplugandatthesametimerotatethebarrelbushing clockwiseabouta%turntolockitovertheplug,(SeeFigure7,page34). Finally,whilethepistolisstillempty(unloaded),checkthattherecoilspringplug iscorrectlyseatedandlocked.Todoso,(SeeFigure8,page36)notethatthe recoilspringplugmustbeflushwith,orprotrudingonlyslightlybeyond,theface ofthebarrelbushingwhenthescrewdriverslotisvertical. Doublecheckbylookingatthebottomoftheslide,justinfrontofthereceiver, toensurethelugontherecoilspringplugisfullyseatedinitsslotontheslide. SAFETYDEPENDSONYOU @

&CAUTION:YOUCOULDDAMAGEYOURPISTOLWHENYOUFIRE,ORAT- TEMPTTOFIREIFTHERECOILSPRINGPLUGISNOTCORRECTLYSEATED ANDLOCKEDASDESCRIBEDABOVE. 7.(A,B&C)Afterassemblingthepistol,checkitsfunctionasfollows: RemoveMagazine.Pulltheslidebackfullyandletitgo.Itshouldflyforward andcloseovertheemptychamber.Thehammershouldstaycocked.Pushthe safetyupandsqueezethetrigger.Thehammershouldstaycocked.Pushthe safetydownandsqueezethetrigger.Thehammershouldfall.Pullthehammer backslightlywithouttouchingthetrigger.Youshouldhearaclickasthesear slipsontothesafetyshelf.Lowerthehammertoengagethesafetyshelf.Now squeezethetriggeragainandnotethatthehammerfallsforwardoffthesafety shelf. Insertanemptymagazine.Pulltheslidebackfullyandletitgo.ItshouldNOT flyforward.Lookintotheejectionportatthefrontfaceoftheslide.Makesure thefiringpinisnotstickingthroughthehole.*Holdtheslide,pushdownonthe slidestopandeasetheslidefullyforward.Putyourthumbonthehammer, squeezethetriggerandeasethehammerforward. * Ifyoufindthefiringpinstickingforwardorifyourpistoldischargeswhen youclosetheslide,donotuseit.ReturnittotheColtfactory. @ SAFETYDEPENDSONYOU

IMPORTANT:Dothesechecksonlyafteryoustripandassemblethepistol.Do notslamtheslideforwardatanyothertime,exceptwhenloading.Ifyou fA exercisetheslide,controlitwithyourhand. iliCAUTION:WHILEUNLIKELY,ITISPOSSIBLETHEFIRINGPINMAYSTICK FORWARD.IFYOUFINDITSTICKINGFORWARD,DONOTLOADORAT- TEMPTTOFIRETHEPISTOL.Ifyouattempttoclosetheslideonaloaded chamberwhenthefiringpinisstickingforward,thepistolmaydischarge. WHENTOCLEAN Youshouldcleanyourpistolassoonafterfiringaspossiblesothatthejobwill beeasierandtherewillbelessopportunityforcorrosiontostart.Whenyour pistolhasnotbeenfired,cleanitperiodically;wesuggestonceortwiceayear inatemperateclimate,orasoftenasonceamonthinatropicalclimate.Ifyou carryaloadedpistol,UNLOADitandcleanitatleastonceamonth.Ifyouget yourpistolwet,cleanitassoonaspossible. - Thefollowingcleaningproceduremaybeusedbothperiodicallyandafterfiring; however,thoseitemsmarked*,,areunnecessaryforperiodiccleaning. Materials:Cleaningrod,cottonflannelpatches(cuttofitsnuglyintothebore), asmalltoothbrush,goodqualitylightgunoil,*guncleaningsolution,and*a brasswirebristleborecleaningbrush. NOTE:Infreezingconditions(below32°ForO°C)avoidtheuseofoilfor lubrication;insteadapplydrylubricantsparingly. AI Procedure I ili1.CAUTION:ENSURETHATTHEPISTOLISNOTLOADED. 2.Stripforcleaningaspreviouslydescribed. NOTE:Avoidcontactbetweencleaningrodandmuzzleasresultantwearwill reduceaccuracy.Toavoiddamagingthemuzzlealwayscleanfrombreechend forward. 3.Attachcottonflannelpatchtoendofcleaningrod,insertitinbreechandpass rodandpatchdownthroughbarrel.Repeat,changingpatchesuntillastpatch comesoutclean. 4.Visuallyinspectbarrel;ifitisclean,proceeddirectlytostep7,butifit remainsdirty,continuewithstep5. 5.*(NOTE:Thisitemshouldbeapplicableonlyafterfiring).Attachbrasswire bristlebrushtocleaningrodanddipbrushinguncleaningsolution.Thoroughly scruboutbarrel,passingthebrushallthewaythroughbeforereversingthe @ SAFETYDEPENDSONYOU

movement.Ifyoutrytochangedirectionwithbrushinbarrel,thebrush willstick. 6.Repeatsteps3and4. 7.Cleanrearfaceofbarrelandfaceofslide,usingasmalltoothbrush.On OfficersACPmodels,alsocleanthelugonrecoilspringpluganditslocating slotinlowerpartofthereceiver.(SeeFigure8). 8.Lightlymoistenaflannelpatchwithgunoilandpassitoncethroughbarrel, leavingathinfilmofoilontheinsidesurface.Leavethisfilmofoilontheinside surfaceifpistolistobestored.Ifitisnottobestored,orifitisbeingremoved fromstorageforuse,passadrypatchthroughthebarreltoremoveasmuchoil aspossible. 9.Checkthatflannelorbrushbristleshavenotbecomelodgedinanypartof thepistol.Wipeallthemetalsurfacesyoucanreachwithaflannelpatchlightly moistenedwithgunoil.Besuretowipetherailsinsidetheslideandtherailson thereceiver.Wipethebarrelontheoutsidesurface.Wipethebarrelbushing area.Putonesmalldropofoilineachofthelockinggroovesintheslide.Put onesmalldropofoilonthehammerpivotpin,thebarrellinkpinandthesear pivotpin.Movementoftheslideshoulddistributesufficientoiltootherareas withinthepistol.Wipeawayanyexcessoil.(SeeNOTEoncoldweather lubrication). 10.Reassemblepistolaspreviouslydescribed. 11.Againwipeexternalsurfaceswithoilmoistenedpatchtoremoveanyfinger prints.(Fingermoisture,ifleft,couldstartcorrosionprocess).(SeeNOTEon coldweatherlubrication). 12.Removeanyguncleaningsolutionandoilfromthestock. Itisadvisabletocleanthemagazine(s)wheneverthepistoliscleaned.Todo so,removethemagazinefollowerandspringandcleanallcomponents,taking caretoremovecarbondepositsfromthelipsofthemagazineandthemagazine follower.Wipecomponentswithlightlyoiledclothandreassemble. The10mmand40S&Wmagazinesaredisassembledfromthebottomwhile magazinesformostothercalibersaredisassembledfromthetop. 110mmand40S&WCaliberMagazinesI(SeeFigure16) The10mmand40S&Wmagazineshavearemovablebase. Toremovethebase,pushinthebaselockwhichsticksoutthroughaholein thebase,andslidethebaseofftowardsthefrontofthemagazine.Then removethebaselockbyslidingittowardsthefrontofthemagazine.
