5Removing the jammed paper.
●If you can see the leading edge of the paper inside the printer

Gently pull the paper up to clear the jam.
❑If the jam is difficult to clear, pull the paper out from the multi-purpose tray or 
manual feed tray.

IMPORTANT
If you are pulling jammed paper out from the multi-purpose tray or manual feed tray, 
excess toner may stain the next sheet of paper that you print on.
●If you can see the tail edge of the paper inside the printer

Hold the paper by both edges and slowly feed it downwards to clear the paper 
out.

❑If the paper is difficult to pull out, pull on the leading edge of the paper as 
shown in the diagram a, then remove the paper from the output tray side b.
IMPORTANT
If you are pulling jammed paper out from the output tray side, excess toner may 
stain the next sheet of paper that you print on.

●If you cannot see the leading edge or the tail edge of the paper

Pull out the back end of the paper as shown in the diagram a, then hold the 
paper by both edges and feed it slowly down to clear the paper out of the 
printer b.

❑If the paper is difficult to pull out, pull on the leading edge of the paper as

6Load the paper so that the paper meets the rear paper guide 
a, then close the tray cover b.
If the paper jam occurred while feeding from the manual feed tray, load paper into 
the manual feed tray.
7Take the toner cartridge out of the protective bag.

8Align the protrusions on the left and right ends of the toner 
cartridge with the toner cartridge guides in the main printer, 
and push the cartridge all the way to the back

down towards you

9Close the top cover.
IMPORTANT
•If you cannot close the top cover, check that the toner cartridge is installed properly 
in the printer. If you close the top cover forcefully, the printer may be damaged.
•Do not leave the top cover open for a long time after installing the toner cartridge.

If the printer has some kind of error such that it can no longer function properly, a 
service call is displayed as follows.

where you purchased the printer.
The scanner is

When a Fixing Unit Error Appears
If a fixing unit error is displayed, follow the procedure below then contact the store 
where you purchased the printer.
1Turn the printer and computer off aa a a, remove the USB cable bb b b, 
and disconnect the power plug from the power outlet 
cc c c.
IMPORTANT
If a fixing unit error appears, do not turn the printer on again after you have turned 
it off.
2Contact your local authorized Canon dealer.
