You can prevent the display-off sensor from turning off the shooting 
setting display on the LCD moni tor when your eye approaches the 
viewfinder.
Under the [52] tab, select [LCD auto 
off], then press < 0>. Select [Disable], 
then press < 0>.
You can change the backgr ound color of the shooting settings screen.
Under the [ 53] tab, select [Screen 
color ], then press < 0>. Select the

The built-in flash and external Speedlite settings can be set with the 
camera’s menu. You can use the camera’s menu to set the external 
Speedlite function settings only if an EX-series Speedlite compatible 
with this function is attached.
The setting procedure is the same as when setting a camera menu 
function.
Select [Flash control].
  Under the [ z1] tab, select [ Flash 
control ], then press < 0>.

You can set the flash-sync speed for 
flash photography in the aperture-priority 
AE (f) mode.
  : Auto
The flash sync speed is set automatically within a range of 1/200 
sec. to 30 sec. to suit the sc ene’s brightness. High-speed sync is 
also possible.
  : 1/200-1/60 sec. auto
Prevents a slow shutter speed from  being set in low-light conditions. 
It is effective for preventing subject blur and camera shake.

Normally, set this to [ 1st curtain] so that the flash fires immediately 
after the exposure starts.
If [ 2nd curtain ] is set, the flash will fire right before the shutter 
closes. When this is combined with  a slow shutter speed, you can 
create a trail of light such as from car headlights at night. With E-TTL

The Custom Functions displayed under [ External flash C.Fn setting] 
will vary depending on the Speedlite model.
1Display the Custom Function.
  With the camera ready to shoot with 
an external Speedlite, select 
[External flash C.Fn setting ], then

2Set the Custom Function.
  Press the < U> key to select the 
function number, then set the

Whenever you set the power switch to  or < 2>, the Self 
Cleaning Sensor Unit operates to automatically shake off the dust on 
the front of the sensor. Normally,  you need not pay attention to this 
operation. However, you can choose  to perform sensor cleaning at any 
time, or disable it.
1Select [Sensor cleaning].
 Under the [ 53] tab, select [Sensor 
cleaning], then press < 0>.

Normally, the Self Cleaning Sensor Unit will eliminate most of the dust 
that may be visible on captured images . However, in case visible dust 
still remains, you can append the Du st Delete Data to the image for 
erasing the dust spots later. The Du st Delete Data is used by Digital 
Photo Professional (provided softwa re, p.350) to erase the dust spots 
automatically.
