    Using Accessories
    Using Accessories
This section covers some of the accessories for this camcorder.
Using the EF24-105mm f/4L IS USM and EF-S18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM Lenses
This section explains how to use the EF24-105mm f/4L IS USM and EF-S18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lenses*,
which are supplied separately in some lens kits sold in select regions. For details on attaching a lens, refer to
Attaching an EF Lens (A31). Illustrations in this section show the EF24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens unless stated
    otherwise.
    * "IS" stands for Image Stabilizer. "USM" stands for Ultrasonic Motor. "STM" stands for Stepping Motor.
    Attaching the Lens Hood
When the EW-83H hood (supplied with the EF24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens) or EW-73B hood (optional
accessory for the EF-S18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens) is attached to the lens, it blocks stray light and protects
the front of the lens from snow, rain, dust, etc. Before storing the lens in a bag, you can attach the hood in
    reverse.
1 Align the red dots on the hood and lens edges.
2 Turn the hood as shown in the illustration.
    • Turn the lens hood clockwise until it attaches securely.
    IMPORTANT
    • When attaching or detaching the lens hood, grasp the base of the
hood when turning it. Grasping the hood's edges when turning it
    may deform the hood.
    NOTES
    • If the hood is not properly attached, it may obstruct the image's
periphery, making it look dark. Operating modes:
EF24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens features
    • Image stabilizer
    • Aspheric and super UD lens elements for excellent imaging performance.
    • Ultrasonic motor (USM) for quick and quiet autofocusing.
    • Manual focusing is available after the subject comes into focus in autofocus mode.
    • Circular aperture for nicer background blur.
    • Tight seal structure ensures excellent dust-proof and drip-proof performance.*
    * The tight seal structure does not make the lens completely dust-proof and drip-proof.
EF-S18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens features
    • Image stabilizer
    • Aspheric and UD lens elements for outstanding image delineation.
    • Electronic manual focusing through the electronic detection of the focus ring's rotation.
    • Manual focusing is available after the subject comes into focus in autofocus mode.
    • Circular aperture for nicer background blur.
    • Dynamic IS, which stabilizes the shot while shooting and walking, and the stepping motor, which allows for
quiet and smooth movie servo AF.

    							Using Accessories
    102
    Zooming
To zoom, turn the lens's zoom ring.
    NOTES
    • If you want to zoom, do so before focusing. Turning the zoom ring after
achieving focus may throw off the focus slightly.
    • With the EF-S18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens, blurring may occur
temporarily if the zoom ring is turned too quickly.
Locking the Zoom Ring (EF-S18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM Lens Only)
The zoom ring can be locked to keep the lens at the shortest point. This
can be convenient when you want to prevent the lens from extending
while carrying the camcorder on a strap.
1 Turn the zoom ring to the wide-angle end (18 mm).
    • The zoom ring can be locked only at the wide-angle end.
2 Slide the zoom ring lock lever in the direction indicated by the arrow.
    • To release the zoom ring, slide the zoom ring lock lever in the
    opposite direction.
    Using the Image Stabilizer
When you use the IS lens's built-in image stabilizer, camcorder shake is
compensated to achieve steadier shots. The procedure explained here
is based on the EF24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens as an example. The
image stabilizer is available regardless of the focus mode switch's position.
Set the STABILIZER switch to ON.
    IMPORTANT
    • The image stabilizer operates for about two seconds even after
recording has finished. Do not remove the lens while the stabilizer is in
operation. This will cause a malfunction.
    NOTES
    • The EF24-105mm f/4L IS USM and EF-S18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM
lenses are effective for hand-held shots under the following
    conditions.
    - In semi-dark areas such as outdoors at night or indoors.
    - In situations where your footing is uncertain.
    • The image stabilizer cannot compensate for a blurred shot caused by a subject that moved.
    • The dynamic IS of the EF-S18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens is effective when shooting while walking and is
most effective at the wide-angle end. When the image stabilizer is active, dynamic IS will automatically activate
    when the camcorder shoots clips.
    • If the degree of camcorder shake is too high, the image stabilizer may not be able to fully compensate.
    • With the EF-S18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens, image stabilization compensates for camcorder shake in all
directions when shooting a still subject. It compensates for vertical shake during panning shots and for
    horizontal shake during tilting shots.

    							103
    Using Accessories
    • When you use a tripod, the image stabilizer should be turned off to save battery power.
    • The image stabilizer function activates when the lens is used with an Extension Tube EF12 II or EF25 II.
Using the Infinity Compensation Mark (EF24-105mm f/4L IS USM Lens Only)

You can compensate for shifting of the infinity focus point that results from
changes in temperature. The infinity position at normal temperature is the point
at which the vertical line of the L mark is aligned with the distance indicator on
    the distance scale.
    NOTES
    • For accurate focusing on subjects at infinity distance, focus manually.
    Using an Optional Filter
You can attach a filter to the filter mounting thread on the front of the lens.
    NOTES
    • Only one filter can be attached at a time.
    • If you need a polarizing filter, use the optional Circular Polarizing Filter (77 mm) for the EF24-105mm f/4L IS
USM lens or optional Circular Polarizing Filter PL-C B (67 mm) for the EF-S18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens.
    • To adjust the polarizing filter, first remove the lens hood.
    Using an Optional Extension Tube
You can attach the optional Extension Tube EF12 II or EF25 II for magnified shots. The shooting distance and
    magnification are shown below.
For the EF24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens
For the EF-S18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens
Using an Optional Close-up Lens (EF24-105mm f/4L IS USM Lens Only)
You can attach an optional 500D (77 mm) Close-up Lens to enable close-up shooting at a magnification of 0.34x
    to 0.05x.
    NOTES
    • For accurate focusing on subjects, we recommend that you focus manually.

Shooting Precautions (EF-S18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM Lens Only)
The EF-S18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM utilizes a stepping motor that drives the focus lens. The motor also
controls the focus lens during zooming.
When the camcorder is turned off
The motor does not operate while the camcorder is turned off. Therefore, be aware of the following points.
    • Manual focus adjustments are not possible.
    • During zooming, delayed focus will occur.
When the camcorder is turned on
When the camcorder is turned on, the lens performs an initial reset.
    • During the initial reset, the image on the screen may appear out of focus but this is not a malfunction.
    • The initial reset takes approximately 1 second (time may vary). You can start shooting after the initial reset has
    finished.
Using the Optional GP-E2 GPS Receiver
When the optional GP-E2 GPS Receiver is connected to the camcorder, the camcorder will automatically record
the GPS information—longitude, latitude and altitude, and the UTC (coordinated universal time) date and time.
In mode, you can check whether a recording contains GPS information or not.
    Connecting the GPS Receiver
Turn off the camcorder and the receiver. Connect the receiver to the camcorder's USB terminal using the USB
cable*. While recording, place the receiver in the carrying case* and attach it to the camcorder's grip belt or carry
it on your person. For details about connecting and using the receiver, refer to the GP-E2 Instruction Manual.
