61 You can directly select and set the shooting functions displayed on the LCD monitor. This is called Quick Control. The basic operating procedures are the same for the Quick Control screen (p.60) and the Custom Quick Control screen (p.427). 1Press the button ( 7 ). The Quick Control screen will appear. 2Set the desired functions. Use < 9> to select a function. The setting of the selected function is displayed. Turn the < 5> or dial to change the setting. 3Take the picture. Press the shutter button completely to take the picture. The captured image will be displayed. Q Quick Control for Shooting Functions mode modes In the < A> mode with the Quick Control screen displayed, you can only set recording function, card selection, image-recording quality, and drive mode.

This feature lets you display and position the shooting functions on the Custom Quick Control screen as desired. For details, see page 427. 63 Q Quick Control for Shooting Functions Select a function and press < 0>. The function setting screen will appear. Turn the < 6> or < 5> dial to change some of the settings. There are also functions that are set by pressing the button. Press < 0> to finalize the setting and return to the previous screen. 65 3 Menu Operations 1Display the menu screen. Press the < M> button to display the menu screen. 2Select a tab. Each time you press the button, the main tab will switch. Turn the < 6> dial to select a secondary tab. For example, the [ z5] tab refers to the screen displayed when the z (Shooting) tab’s fifth dot “ ” from the left is selected. 3Select the desired item. Turn the < 5> dial to select the item, then press < 0>. 4Select the setting. Turn the < 5> dial to select the desired setting. The current setting is indicated in blue. 5Adjust the setting. Press < 0> to set it. 6Exit the setting. Press the < M> button to exit the menu and return to shooting-ready. Menu Setting Procedure
3 Menu Operations 66 Example: When Multi Shot Noise Reduction is set Dimmed menu items cannot be set. The menu item is dimmed if another function setting is overriding it. You can see the overriding function by selecting the dimmed menu item and pressing . If you cancel the overriding function’s setting, the dimmed menu item will become settable. Dimmed Menu Items The explanation of menu functions hereinafter assumes that you have pressed the < M> button to display the menu screen. You can also use < 9> to operate and set menu functions. (Except for [ 3 1: Erase images ] and [51: Format card ].) To cancel the operation, press the < M> button. For details about each menu item, see page 460. Some dimmed menu items will not show the overriding function. With [ 54: Clear all camera settings], you can reset the menu functions to the default settings (p.70).
67 If the card is new or was previously formatted by another camera or computer, format the card with this camera. 1Select [Format card]. Under the [5 1] tab, select [Format card ], then press < 0>. 2Select the card. [f] is the CF card, and [g ] is the SD card. Select the card, then press . 3Select [OK]. The card will be formatted. When [g ] is selected, low-level formatting is possible (p.68). For low-level formatting, press the < L > button to append [ Low level format ] with a checkmark , then select [OK ]. Before You Start 3 Formatting the Card Cautions for Formatting the Card When the card is formatted, all images and data on the card will be erased. Even protected images will be erased, so make sure there is nothing you need to keep. If necessary, transfer the images and data to a computer, etc., before formatting the card.
Before You Start 68 The card is new. The card was formatted by a different camera or a computer. The card is full with images or data. A card-related error is displayed (p.487). Format the card in the following cases: Low-level FormattingPerform low-level formatting if the SD card’s reading or writing speed seems slow or if you want to totally erase all data on the card. Since low-level formatting will erase all recordable sectors on the SD card, the formatting will take longer than normal formatting. You can stop the low-level formatting by selecting [ Cancel]. Even in this case, normal formatting will be completed and you can use the SD card as usual. When the card is formatted or data is erased, only the file management information is changed. The actual dat a is not completely erased. Be aware of this when selling or discarding the card. When discarding the card, execute low-level formatting or destroy the card physically to prevent the personal data from being leaked. Before using a new Eye-Fi card (p.451), the software on the card must be installed on your computer. Then format the card with the camera. The card capacity displayed on the card format screen may be smaller than the capacity indicated on the card. This device incorporates exFAT technology licensed from Microsoft.
69 Before You Start You can prevent the beeper from sounding when focus is achieved or during self-timer operation. 1Select [Beep]. Under the [z 1] tab, select [Beep ], then press < 0>. 2Select [Disable]. Select [ Disable], then press < 0>. The beeper will not sound. To save battery power, the camera turns off automatically after a set time of idle operation elapses. The default setting is 1 min., but this setting can be changed. If you do not want the camera to turn off automatically, set this to [ Disable]. After the power turns off, you can turn on the camera again by pressing the shutter button or other buttons. 1Select [Auto power off]. Under the [5 2] tab, select [Auto power off ], then press < 0>. 2Set the desired time. Select the desired setting, then press . 3 Disabling the Beeper 3 Setting the Power-off Time/Auto Power Off Even if [ Disable] is set, the LCD monitor will tu rn off automatically after 30 min. to save power. (The camera’s power does not turn off.)
Before You Start 70 You can set how long the image is displayed on the LCD monitor just after shooting. To keep the image displayed, set [Hold]. To not have the image displayed, set [ Off]. 1Select [Image review]. Under the [z 1] tab, select [Image review ], then press < 0>. 2Set the desired time. Select the desired setting, then press . The camera’s shooting function settings and menu settings can be reverted to their defaults. 1Select [Clear all camera settings]. Under the [5 4] tab, select [ Clear all camera settings ], then press . 2Select [OK]. Clearing all the camera settings will reset the camera to the default settings on pages 71-73. 3 Setting the Image Review Time 3 Reverting the Camera to the Default SettingsN If [Hold ] is set, the image will be displayed until the auto power off time elapses.
