121 Direct Printing from the Camera You can connect the camera directly to a printer and print out the images in the CF card. The camera enables direct printing with printers compatible with “< w> PictBridge”, Canon “< A> CP Direct”, and Canon “< S> Bubble Jet Direct.”
122 This chapter includes procedures for various types of printers. After “Preparing to Print” on the next page, follow the instructions applicable to your printer on the pages indicated. 123 You do the direct printing procedure entirely through your camera’s LCD monitor. 1Select [Communication]. Turn the < 5> dial to select [ c Communication ], then press . 2Select [Print/PTP]. Turn the < 5> dial to select [ Print/ PTP ], then press < 0>. 1Turn the camera’s < 4> switch to < 2 >. 2Set up the printer. For details, refer to the printer’s manual. Preparing to Print Setting the Camera Connect the camera to the printer When connecting the camera to the personal computer, set [ Communication ] to [PC connect. ]. Transmissions between the camera and personal computer w ill not work with the [Print/PTP] setting. For direct printing, using AC Adapter Kit ACK-E2 (optional) to power the camera is recommended.
Preparing to Print 124 3Connect the camera to the printer. Refer to the table (Printers and Cables) below to select the proper cable to connect the camera to printer. When connecting the cable plug to the camera’s < C> terminal, the cable plug’s < D> icon must face the front side of the camera. To connect to the printer, refer to the printer’s instruction manual. 4Turn on the printer. 5Turn the camera’s < 4> switch to < 1 > or < J>. XSome printers may have a beeping sound. 125 Preparing to Print 6Playback the image. Press the < x> button. X The image and the printer icon < w>, < A >, or < S> indicating a printer connection will be displayed. X The < l> button lamp will light in blue. The procedure will be different depending on the icon displayed. See the applicable pages below. If you use a battery to power the came ra, make sure it is fully charged. During direct printing, keep checking the battery level. If there is a long beeping sound in st ep 5, it indicates a problem with the PictBridge printer. To find out what’s wrong, do the following: Press the < x> button to playback the image and follow the steps below. 1. Press < 0>. 2. On the print setti ng screen, select [Print]. The error message will be displayed on the LCD monitor. See “Error Messages ” on page 129. Before disconnecting the ca ble, turn off the camera and printer. Pull out the cable while holding the plug, not the cord. When connecting the camera to the pr inter, do not use any cable other than the dedicated interface cable. Do not disconnect the cabl e during direct printing.

Check that the < w> icon is displayed on the upper left of the LCD monitor. Turn the < 5> dial to select the image to be printed. 2Press < 0>. Set the printing effects. Sets the quantity to be printed. Sets the trimming area. Sets the paper size, type, and layout. Returns to the screen in step 1. Starts the printing. The paper size, type, and layout you have set will be displayed.

About the Paper Types If you are using a Canon PIXMA/DS/BJ printer with Canon paper, set the respective paper type as follows: If you are using a non-Canon printer, refer to the printer’s instruction manual. wPrinting with PictBridge 128 About Layout * From the Exif data, the ca mera name, lens name, shooting mode, shutter speed, aperture, exposure compensation amount , ISO speed, etc., will be imprinted. 4Set the other options. If necessary, you can also set the < > date/file number imprinting, printing effects, and < R> number of copies. Turn the < 5> dial to select the menu item, then press < 0>. Turn the < 5> dial to select the desired setting, then press < 0>. Depending on the BJ printer, the Printing effects setting may enable you to select the [ Vivid] (for vivid greens and blue sky), [ NR] (noise reduction), [ Vivid+NR], [Face ] (compensate for a dark face caused by backlighting) or [ On] setting. For details on trimming, see page 136. BorderlessThe print will have no white borders. If your printer cannot pri nt borderless prints, the print will have borders. BorderedThe print will have a white border along the edges. BorderedThe shooting data will be imprinte d on the border on 9x13cm and larger prints. **-upOption to print 2, 4, 8, 9, 16, or 20 copies of same image on one sheet. 20-up 35-upOn A4 / Letter size paper, 20 or 35 thumbnails of the images ordered through DPOF will be printed. [ 20-up ] will have the shooting inform ation* printed on the side of the thumbnail images. DefaultWith a Canon printer, the print will be borderless. 129 wPrinting with PictBridge 5Start printing. Turn the < 5> dial to select [ Print], then press < 0>. X The printing will start. When the printing ends, the screen will return to step 1. To stop the printing, press < 0> while [ Stop ] is displayed, then turn the < 5 > dial to select [ OK] and press < 0 >. Depending on the im age’s file size and recording quality, it may take some time for the printing to start after you select [Print]. The [ Default ] setting for printing effect s and other options are the printer’s own default settings as set by the printer’s manufacturer. See the printer’s instru ction manual to find out what the [ Default] settings are. Handling Printer ErrorsIf you resolve a printer error (no ink, no paper, etc.) and select [Continue] to resume printing but it do es not resume, operate the buttons on the printer to resume printing. For details, see the printer’s instruction manual. Error MessagesIf a problem occurs during printing, an error message will appear on the camera’s LCD monitor. Press < 0> to stop printing. After resolving the problem, resume prin ting. For details on how to resolve a printing problem, refer to the printer’ s instruction manual. Paper Error Check whether th e paper is properly l oaded in the printer. Ink Error The printer has run out of ink or the waste ink tank is full. Hardware Error Check for any printer pr oblems other than paper and ink problems. File Error The selected image cannot be printe d via PictBridge. Images taken with a different camera or images edited with a computer might not be printable.
