This FAX/MFC has been designed to be simple to use, with LCD screen prompts to guide you through functions. However, you can use your machine to its fullest potential by taking a few minutes to read this manual. Finding Information All chapter headings and subheadings are listed in the Table of Contents. You will be able to find information about a specific feature or function by checking the Index in the back of this manual. Illustrations of some screen displays also help you choose the correct key-presses. Conventions Used in this Manual Also, throughout this manual, youÕll see special symbols alerting you to important information, cross-references, and warnings. boldfaceBold typeface identifies a specific key on the FAX/MFC control panel. italicsItalics typeface identifies a chapter or topic that you should review for related information. bubble dotBubble Dot typeface identifies the messages on the LCD of the FAX/MFC. Test Sheet Procedures (For USA Only) After programming your Station ID, please fill out the TEST SHEET included with your FAX/MFC and fax it to BrotherÕs Automated Fax Response System as your first transmission. This will verify that your FAX/MFC is properly installed. (See Setting Station ID, page 4-1.) When this document is received a confirmation sheet will be sent back to your machine. To get a response, be sure to set up your Station ID. Additionally, your FAX/MFC has a Help key. Press Help or Copy/Help to print a list of basic operational steps and functions. Warnings detail precautions you must take to avoid possible personal injury. Cautions specify procedures you must avoid or follow to prevent possible damage to the FAX/MFC. NoteNotes supply important information you must follow if the specified situation applies. FYI tips provide details about how the current operation interacts with other features. INTRODUCTION 1 - 3 FAX 2600 Control Panel Overview When you press these keys: HoldLets you put calls on hold. Dial PadAllows you to dial phone and fax numbers, and can be used as a keyboard for entering information into the fax machine. Redial/PauseRedials the last number called. Also inserts a pause in autodial numbers. HookLets you dial telephone and fax numbers without lifting the handset. (Left Arrow) (Right Arrow) Volume Moves the LCD cursor to the left or right in Function mode so you can make selections. Also, adjusts speaker, ring and handset volume. Search/Speed DialLets you look up numbers stored in the dialing memory. Also, lets you dial stored phone numbers by pressing # and two-digit number. ShiftStopAccesses the second number stored on each One Touch Key (9-16).Stops a fax, cancels an operation, or exits from function mode.StartStarts an operation, such as sending a fax. Broadcastlets you to send faxes to many different locations (maximum of 96 locations at once). ResolutionLets you select the resolution when you send a fax. Enlarge/Reducelets you select an enlargement or reduction ratio: 100%, 120%, 125%, 150%, 200%, 50%, 75%, 87%, 93%. Selecting AUTO automatically reduces the original to the selected paper size. CopyMakes a copy of the original in the ADF. Liquid Crystal Display (LCD)Displays messages to help you set and operate your fax machine. Lets you access the function mode. (programming) Function Programming keys: Dialing and Telephone keys: Stores a function setting in the machine.
