Pause
Press Redial/Pause t o insert a 3.5-second pause between 
numbers. If you are dialing overseas,  you can press 
Redial/Pause 
as many times as needed to increase the length of the pause.
Tone or Pulse (Canada only)
If you have a Pulse dialing service, but need to send Tone signals 
(for example, for telephone banking), follow the instruct ions below. If 
you have Touch Tone service, you will not need this feature to send 
tone signals.

Fax Forwarding/Paging
Programming a Fax Forwarding number
When Fax Forwarding is set to On, your MFC stores the received f ax 
in the memory. Then it dials the fax number you’ve programmed and 
forwards t he fax message.
1Press Menu, 2, 5, 1.
2Press  or  to select Fax 
Forward.
Press 
Set. 
The LCD will ask you to enter the fax number to which faxes will 
be forwarded.
3Enter the forwarding number (up to 20 digits).

Programming your pager number
When Paging is selected, your MFC dials the pager number you’ve 
programmed, and then dials your Personal Identification Number 
(PIN). This activates your pager so you will know that you have a fax 
message in the memory.
1Press Menu, 2, 5, 1.
2Press   or   to select 
Paging.
Press 
Set. 
3Enter your pager phone number followed by # # (up to 20 digits).

Setting Fax Storage
If you set Fax Storage to ON, you will be able to retrieve fax 
messages from another location using Fax Forwarding, Paging, or 
Remote Retrieval operations. The LCD will show when you have a 
fax stored in memory. 
1Press Menu, 2, 5, 2. 
The LCD will ask you to choose a 
fax setting.
2Press   or   to select On (or 
Off).

Setting your Remote Access Code
The remote access code lets you access the Remote Retrieval 
features when you are away from your MFC. Before you use the 
remote access and retrieval features, you have to set up your own 
code.  The default  code is inactive code (--- ).
1Press Menu, 2, 5, 3.
2Enter a three-digit code using 
numbers 
0-9,  or #.

Remote Retrieval
You can call your MFC f rom any telephone or fax machine using 
touch tone, then use the Remote Access Code and remot e 
commands to retrieve fax messages. Be sure to cut out the Remote 
Retrieval Access Card on the last page and keep it  with you at all 
times.
Using your Remote Access Code
1Dial your fax number from a telephone or another fax machine 
using touch tone.

Remote commands
Follow the commands below to access features when you are away 
from the MFC. When you call t he MFC and enter your Remote 
Access Code (3 digits followed by  ), the system will give two short 
beeps and you must enter a remote command.

MFC settings and activity
You need to set up t he Transmission Verification Report and Activity 
Report Interval in the menu table.

Customizing the 
Transmission Verification Report
You can use the Transmission Report as proof that you sent a fax. 
This report lists the time and date of transmission and whether the 
transmission was successful (OK). If you select On or On+Image, the 
report  will print for every fax you send.

Setting the Fax Activity Report Interval
You can set the MFC to print activity reports at specific intervals (every 
50 faxes, 6, 12 or 24 hours, 2 or 7 days). If you set the interval to Off, 
you can print the report by following the Steps on the next page.
The default setting is Every 50 Faxes.
