Manual Transmission (With an External Telephone)
Manual transmission lets you hear the dial tone, ringing and fax receiving tones 
while sending the fax. 
1Place the original face up in the ADF, or face down on the scanner glass.
2Pick up the handset of the external phone and listen for a dial tone.
3Dial the fax number you want to call on the external phone.
4When you hear the fax tone, press Black Fax Start.
5Replace the handset of the external phone.

1Place the original face up in the ADF, or face down on the scanner glass.
2Enter the fax number.
3Press Black Fax Start.  The MFC scans the original and the LCD shows the 
job number (#XXX) of the fax and how much memory is available. Then the 
MFC starts dialing.  You can immediately repeat Steps 1 to 3 for the next fax. 
Real Time Transmission
When you are sending a fax, the MFC will scan originals into memory before

Checking Job Status
Check which jobs are still waiting in memory to be sent. (If no jobs are waiting, 
the LCD shows 
NO JOB WAITING.)

1Press Menu/Set, 2, 6.
2If you have multiple jobs waiting, press  to scroll through the list.
3Press Stop/Exit.

Delayed FAX (Not Available for Color Fax)
During the day you can store up to 50 documents in memory for delayed 
sending. Transmission of these documents will begin at the time of day you 
enter in Step 3, which shows the time you entered last. Press Menu/Set to 
accept it, or enter another time for this fax.
1Place the original face up in the ADF, or face down on the scanner glass.
2Press Menu/Set, 2, 2, 3.

Setting Up Polled Transmit 
(Not Available for Color Fax)
Polled Transmit is when you set up your MFC to wait with a document so 
another fax machine can retrieve it.
1Place the original to be retrieved face up in the ADF, or face down on the 
scanner glass.
2Press Menu/Set, 2, 2, 6.
3Press   to choose 
POLLED TX: ON? 
(or POLLED TX: OFF), 
and then press Menu/Set.

7Auto Dial Numbers and 
Dialing Options
Storing Numbers for Easy Dialing
You can set up your MFC to do two types of easy dialing: Speed Dial and 
Groups for Broadcasting faxes.
Storing Speed Dial Numbers
You can store Speed Dial numbers, so when you dial you will have to press only 
five keys (Search/Speed Dial, #, the two-digit location, and Black Fax Start). 
The MFC has 40 Speed Dial locations.

Changing Speed Dial Numbers
If you try to store a Speed Dial number in a location where a number is already 
stored, the LCD shows the current name stored there and prompts you to either: 
1Press 1 to change the stored number—OR— Press 2 to exit without making a 
change.
2Enter a new number, and then press Menu/Set.

Setting Up Groups for Broadcasting
Groups allow you to send the same fax message to many fax numbers by 
pressing only five keys (Search/Speed Dial, #, the two-digit location, and 
Black Fax Start). First, you’ll need to store each fax number as a Speed Dial 
number. Then, you can combine them into a Group. Each Group uses up a 
Speed Dial number. You can have up to six Groups, or you can assign up to 39 
numbers to one large Group.

Broadcasting is automatically sending the same fax message to multiple fax 
numbers. Using the Menu/Set key, you can include Groups, Speed Dial 
locations plus up to 50 manually dialed numbers. If you did not use up any 
locations for Groups, access codes or credit card numbers, you can broadcast 
faxes automatically to up to 90 different locations from the MFC. However,
