Assembly
Removing the Protective Yellow Bar
1Lift the cover toward the back.
2Pull the protective yellow bar out of the machine.
Caution
Do not throw away the protective yellow bar. You will need it for future 
transportation.
3Close the top cover, and then close the control panel cover.

Setting up the MFC
1Connect the power cord.
There is no ON/OFF switch. When you 
plug in the power cord, the power goes 
on and the LCD shows:
WARNING
The MFC must be grounded using a 3-prong plug.
Since the MFC is grounded through the power outlet, you can protect yourself from 
potentially hazardous electrical conditions on the telephone network by keeping the 
power to your MFC on when you connect it to a telephone line. Similarly, you can

3Attach the paper wire extension to the multi-purpose sheet feeder.
4Attach the plastic paper tray to the paper output slot, and then pull out the 
extension.
Caution
Please attach the paper tray to prevent paper jams and maintain print quality.

Loading Paper in the Multi-Purpose Sheet Feeder 
(Paper Cassette)
You can load up to 100 sheets of 20 lb (75 g/m2) paper if you use the cut sheet. 
(See 
Paper Capacity of Multi-Purpose Sheet Feeder, page 2-4.)
1Fan the paper well. Gently insert the paper.  Make sure the print side is toward 
you and the paper level is stacked below the paper guide line.
2Press and slide the guide to fit the paper width.

Installing the Ink Cartridges
1Check that you turned on the power (by 
plugging in the power cord). The LCD 
shows:
2Open the Scanner cover of the MFC by pulling the scanner cover release lever 
toward you and lifting the scanner cover.
3After a few seconds, the print head will move left to its replacement position. 
4Remove the protective blue tape over the colored ink cartridge covers.
5Push the four colored ink cartridge covers one at a time so they pop up.

Do not throw way the white shipping cover. You will need it for future 
transportation.
We recommend that you install the ink cartridges from left to right in this order: 
Black, Cyan, Yellow, Magenta.
6Open the Black ink cartridge bag and take out the ink cartridge.
7Carefully remove the sealing tape from the bottom of the ink cartridge.  Be sure 
to peel the tape in the direction away from you.

9Repeat Steps 6 to 8 to install each 
color ink cartridge.
10After installing all ink cartridges, 
close the Scanner cover until it 
clicks into place. Your MFC will 
enter a “head cleaning” cycle for 
approximately four minutes. The 
MFC will go online to set the ink 
dot counter for each color, so the 
MFC can warn you with a 
message when ink is running 
low.

Make sure the paper is loaded in the multi-purpose sheet feeder. The LCD
