Line Compensation
Use this action item to specify an amount of equalization compensation based on the length
of cable between the DS1 interface and the Channel Service Unit (CSU) or other far end
connection ports. Table 18-1 gives compensation settings for specific cable lengths.
NOTE: If the cable terminates on DS1 terminal equipment, such as a D4 channel bank,
another System 25, or a System 75, divide the cable length in half before referring to
Table 18-1. For example, if a cable terminates at another...

Zero Code Suppression
Use this action item to select a zero code suppression mode. Zero code suppression is used
to detect and prevent the transmission of an all-zero byte. The mode selected must match
that employed at the far end. The choices are Bipolar 8 Zero Suppress (B8ZS) and Zero
Code Suppression (ZCS). B8ZS is preferred because it provides data transparency.
However, ZCS is compatible with most current T1 equipment and does not cause bipolar
violations.
NOTE: All intermediate devices must be...

To select a signaling
mode:1 At Menu =, enter 3.
2 At
Slot =, enter the CSS of the slot in which the DS1
board is installed.
3 At
Action =, enter 6.
4 At
Data =, enter 0 for robbed bit signaling or 1 for
common channel signaling.
The default is 0 (robbed bit).
Red Alarm Activation Time
Use this action item to specify a time interval that, when exceeded by an alarm condition, will
activate a red alarm (RED) at the DS1 circuit pack. A red alarm indicates the loss of frame
synchronization...

Port Administration
There are 24 channels on a T1 carrier. Each channel is
assigned a portion (a time slot) within the carrier. These time
slots (or DS0s) are also used to identify the port or board
number. Each analog facility (i.e. LS, GS, DID, or TIE trunk
or OPS line) is assigned a port number which is the channel
number that corresponds to the port the facility uses,
This administration is done with action item 1 under the
PORT Menu (Main Menu = 1). See “Assigning A Trunk” in
Section 5,...

Timing Administration
The action items in this section are used to administer the T1
timing options. All the items in this section are organized under
the SYSTEM Menu (Main Menu item 4).
Primary Synchronization Source
Use this action item to specify a primary synchronization (timing) source. If the System 25 is part
of a larger T1 network, it must be synchronized with the network’s common timing source. The
System 25 synchronizes itself to the network by extracting the timing signal from the incoming...
