1Tap General from the drop-down list on the Preferences

Setting the automatic shut-off time
Your CLIE handheld has an automatic shut-off feature that turns off the
power after a period of inactivity. This feature helps conserve battery power
in case you forget to turn off your CLIE handheld. If you find that your CLIE
handheld shuts itself off too early or too late, you can increase or decrease
the time setting for the automatic shut-off feature.

Setting sounds
Your CLIE handheld uses a variety of sounds. The System, Alarm, and
Game Sound settings enable you to turn the sounds on or off, and to adjust
the volume level.
1Tap General from the drop-down list on the Preferences
screen.

Turning on or off the Beam Receive feature
You can choose to turn off the Beam Receive feature. This prohibits anyone
from beaming information to your CLIE handheld. It also results in a slight
saving of battery power. By default, the Beam Receive is set to On.

Entering owner information
The Owner Preferences screen enables you to record a name, company
name, or phone number, or any other information that you want to associate
with your CLIE handheld.
If you use the Security application to lock your CLIE handheld with a
password, the information that you enter in the Owner Preferences screen
appears the next time you turn on your CLIE handheld.

Creating Graffiti® ShortCuts
The ShortCuts Preferences screen enables you to define abbreviations
(ShortCuts) for entering text with Graffiti® strokes. You can create a
ShortCut for any words, letters, or numbers. All ShortCuts you create appear
on the list in the ShortCut Preferences screen. All the ShortCuts are available
in any of your CLIE applications and are backed up on your computer when
you perform a HotSync operation. See “Using...

To Edit a ShortCut
1Tap the ShortCut you want to edit in the ShortCuts list and then
tap Edit.
2Make the changes you want and then tap OK.
To Delete a ShortCut
If you no longer need a ShortCut, you can delete it from the list of ShortCuts.
1Tap the ShortCut you want to delete in the ShortCuts list and
then tap Delete.
The confirmation dialog box is displayed.

Setting the High Resolution Assist function
The High Resolution Assist function enables the high resolution display of
an application that does not support the high resolution mode. To use the
High Resolution Assist feature, follow the instructions in “Recommendation
for installing the Up-date file” in the Read This First manual and make sure
that you have installed the Up-date file contained in the supplied CD-ROM

Backing up data of your Sony CLIE Handheld
You can save a backup copy of your CLIE handheld with either of the
following two methods:
• Backing up data using a HotSync
® operation
• Backing up data using “Memory Stick
®” media
Backing up data in your computer using a HotSync operation
