Settings93 Manage Applications Use the Application manager menu to quickly erase selected content and uninstall third-party applications stored in your tablet. Clear an Application’s Cache 1. Press and then touch > Settings > Application manager. 2. Touch the Downloaded tab, SD Card tab, Running tab, or All tab to view the status of apps and services. Touch an app or service for more information, and for app options such as stopping and uninstalling. Running Services This service efficiently manages power consumption and processor/memory resources. Processes can be stopped until the tablet is restarted. Stop a currently running service 1. Press and then touch > Settings > Application manager. 2. Touch the Running tab, touch a running service, and then touch Stop. 3. Read the Stop system service? dialog and touch OK. l These stopped processes restart once the tablet is restarted. l Third-party Task Manager applications are also available from the Google Play Store. Note: You can also access Task manager by pressing and holding , then touch . Memory Use View storage used by currently running applications. n Press and then touch > Settings > Application manager. The bottom of the screen displays the amount of RAM used by all running services. Default Applications If you have installed multiple apps that perform the same kind of task, you can choose the app you want to use as the default.
Settings94 1. Press and then touch > Settings. 2. Tap Default applications to configure options: l Home: Choose a default home screen mode. This option is available if you have more than one home screen configuration installed. Users You can share this tablet with multiple people by creating User accounts. Users have their own space, which they can customize with their own apps, wallpaper, and other preferences. Users can also adjust tablet settings, like Wi-Fi, that affect everyone. Add a New User 1. Press and then touch > Settings > Users. 2. Touch , and then choose the user type: l User: The user can access their own apps and content from your device. l Restricted profile: The user can only access limited apps and content on your device. 3. Follow the onscreen prompts to learn about user profiles and complete the new user account. 4. Tap the new user account to configure it: l Set up now: If the new User is able to set up their area now, hand over the device for them to set up their space. l Not now: The user can set up their area at a later time. 5. Location Settings Control apps’ access to your location, and configure location sources. Some apps may require one or more location services be turned On for full app functionality. GPS signals may be affected by your surroundings, including: n Buildings n Tunnels or underground structures n Weather conditions
Settings95 n High-voltage or electromagnetic fields n Tinted windows 1. Press and then touch > Settings > Location. 2. Configure options: l Tap the ON/OFF switch to turn location services On or Off. When on, you are allowing Google’s location service to collect anonymous location data. Some data may be stored on your device, and collection may occur even when no apps are running. After you turn Location on, you can configure settings: l Mode: Choose the method your device uses to determine your location. o High accuracy: When enabled, your device uses GPS information, Wi-Fi, and mobile networks to estimate your location. o Power saving: When enabled, your device uses Wi-Fi and mobile networks to estimate your location. o GPS only: When enabled, your only device uses GPS information to estimate your location. l Recent location requests: View services or apps that have recently accessed your location information. l Location services: View the current location service. Tap a service to configure options, if available. l Location sources: Tap My places to save your favorite locations, to allow your device to provide relevant information by recognizing saved locations. o Tap Home, Office, or Car, and then follow the prompts to configure options for identifying the location. l Tap to set up a new location Lock Screen Configure settings for locking the screen to improve security. 1. Press and then touch > Settings > Lock screen > Screen lock. 2. Touch Screen lock to select a new screen lock. Then configure the options for that screen lock. l Swipe: When enabled, you unlock the tablet by swiping your finger across the screen. This is the default screen lock, and offers no security. o Multiple widgets: Display multiple widgets on your Lock screen. o Lock screen widgets: Customize your clock and personal message.
Settings96 o Shortcuts: Add app shortcuts to the lock screen. o Unlock effect: Show a ripple effect on the lock screen when you slide your finger over the screen. o Help text: Show help information on the Lock screen. o Wake up in lock screen: Allows you to wake up the screen by speaking a command. o Set wake-up command: Allows you to set a command to wake up the screen. l Face unlock: When enabled, you unlock the tablet by looking at the screen. This option offers low security, because someone who looks similar to you could unlock your tablet. Touch the option for more information, and to set up Face unlock. o Lock screen widgets: Customize your clock and personal message. o Improve facial recognition: Have your face captured in different conditions. o Presence check: Require a blink to unlock your tablet. o Make pattern visible: Display the security pattern. o Lock automatically: Screen will automatically lock 5 seconds after the screen turns off. o Lock instantly with power key: Instantly lock the tablet by pressing the Power/Lock Key. l Face and voice: When enabled, you unlock the tablet by looking at the screen and speaking. This option offers low security, because someone who looks and/or sounds similar to you could unlock your tablet. Touch the option for more information, and to set up Face and voice unlock. o Lock screen widgets: Customize your clock and personal message. o Improve facial recognition: Have your face captured in different conditions. o Presence check: Require a blink to unlock your tablet. o Make pattern visible: Display the security pattern. o Lock automatically: Screen will automatically lock 5 seconds after the screen turns off. o Lock instantly with power key: Instantly lock the tablet by pressing the Power/Lock Key. l Pattern: When enabled, you draw a pattern, which you create, on the screen to unlock the tablet. Touch the option, then follow the prompts to create or change your screen unlock pattern. o Lock screen widgets: Customize your clock and personal message. o Make pattern visible: Display the security pattern. o Lock automatically: Screen will automatically lock 5 seconds after the screen turns off.
Settings97 o Lock instantly with power key: Instantly lock the tablet by pressing the Power/Lock Key. l PIN: When enabled, you enter a numeric PIN (Personal Identification Numberyf, which you create, to unlock the tablet. With PIN screen lock, you can also set the With swipe lock and Lock screen options. o Lock screen widgets: Customize your clock and personal message. o Lock automatically: Screen will automatically lock 5 seconds after the screen turns off. o Lock instantly with power key: Instantly lock the tablet by pressing the Power/Lock Key. l Password: When enabled, you enter an alphanumeric password, which you create, to unlock the tablet. o Lock screen widgets: Customize your clock and personal message. o Lock automatically: Screen will automatically lock 5 seconds after the screen turns off. o Lock instantly with power key: Instantly lock the tablet by pressing the Power/Lock Key. l None: Disable all screen lock settings. Security Settings This menu contains features that allow you to configure the tablet’s security parameters. Encryption After encryption, you must enter the PIN or password you set each time you turn on your tablet. You can also encrypt information stored on an optional installed memory card (not includedyf. Encryption may take an hour or more to complete. Do not turn off the tablet during encryption. Interrupting the encryption process may result in the loss of some or all data. Before Encrypting Your Tablet Important: Charge the battery to at least 80yb, and plug the tablet into the charger to ensure that the battery remains charged. Note: Set a Screen lock password of at least 6 characters, including at least one number. 1. Press and then touch > Settings > Security. 2. Touch Encrypt device to encrypt data stored in your tablet’s internal memory.
Settings98 Make Passwords Visible When enabled, password characters display briefly as you enter them. 1. Press and then touch > Settings > Security. 2. Touch the check box next to Make passwords visible to enable or disable the option. Device Administration Some applications, such as Corporate email, may require you allow access to your tablet by device administrators in certain circumstances, such as if your tablet is lost or stolen. These applications enforce remote or local device security policies. Some of the features a device administration application might control are: n Setting the number of failed password attempts before the device is restored to factory settings. n Automatically locking the device. n Restoring factory settings on the device. Device Administrators 1. Press and then touch > Settings > Security. 2. Touch Device administrators and then perform these steps: l Touch an account. l Review the device administration details for the account. l To remove administration from the account, touch Deactivate. Unknown Sources By default, you can only install apps from the Google Play Store. When Unknown sources is enabled, you can install apps from other sources. 1. Press and then touch > Settings > Security. 2. Touch the check box next to Unknown sources to enable or disable the option. Verify Apps When enabled, apps are examined before they are installed for any potential harm they might pose to your tablet.

Security Update Service Your device’s security policies provide protection against potential threats. Security Policy Updates You can keep your security policies up to date by updating security policies often. You can set options for automatic updates, to ensure your device always receives the latest updates. 1. Press and then touch > Settings > Security. 2. Tap Security policy updates to configure options: l Automatic updates: When enabled, your device will automatically update security policies when it is connected to preferred networks. Use the Preferred networks setting to specify networks your device will consider as preferred. l Preferred networks: Choose Wi-Fi networks only to restrict your device to only updating security policies when it’s connected to a Wi-Fi network. Choose Wi-Fi or mobile networks to allow your device to update security policies any time it’s connected to Wi-Fi, or to the wireless network. Depending on your service plan, updating the security policies over the wireless network may result in additional charges for downloading the policy data. Check for Security Updates Manually You can use the Check for updates option to check for security policy updates at any time. 1. Press and then touch > Settings > Security. 2. Tap Security policy updates > Check for updates, and then follow the prompts to check for updates and install them, if desired. Send Security Reports Your device can send security reports to Samsung, to assist in keeping security policies up to date. If you enable this option, security reports are only sent when your device is connected to a Wi-Fi network. 1. Press and then touch > Settings > Security. 2. Tap Send security reports to enable or disable the option. When enabled, your device will automatically send security reports to Samsung when it’s connected to Wi-Fi.
Settings100 Credential Storage You can install credentials from an optional installed memory card (not includedyf, and use the Credential storage settings to allow applications to access the security certificates and other credentials. 1. Press and then touch > Settings > Security. 2. Touch an option: l Trusted credentials: Display a list of credentials you’ve installed. l Install from device storage: Install encrypted certificates from an optional installed memory card (not includedyf. l Clear credentials: Remove stored credentials and reset the password (only available when credentials are installedyf. Language and Input Settings Use Language and input settings to choose a default language for your tablet’s operations, plus settings for text entry and other inputs. Choose a Default Language Choose the language for operating your tablet. 1. Press and touch > Settings > Language and input. 2. Touch Language to select a language. Default Input Method The following procedure allows you to select and set the default method to use when entering text. 1. Press and then touch > Settings > Language and input. 2. Touch Default to select a text entry method. Note: You can change the input method while you’re entering text. Swipe your finger down from the status bar to display Notifications, and then touch Choose input method.
Settings101 Google Voice Typing Google voice typing allows you to speak your entries. When you enable Google voice typing, it’s available for use when you touch a field to enter text. 1. Press and then touch > Settings > Language and input. 2. Touch beside Google voice typing to configure options: l Choose input languages: Select language(syf to use for voice input, or choose Automatic to let Google decide. l Block offensive words: Hide recognized offensive words. l Download offline speech recognition: Download and install speech recognition engines, to allow you to use voice input while not connected to the network, such as during Airplane mode. Samsung Keyboard The Samsung Keyboard is an on-screen QWERTY keyboard, so you can enter text by “typing” on the keyboard. Samsung keyboard is enabled by default, and you can choose options for using it. 1. Press and then touch > Settings > Language and input. 2. Touch next to Samsung keyboard to configure these options: l Input languages: Choose language(syf for use with Samsung keyboard. When you have more than one language enabled, you can slide your finger on the space bar while entering text to switch languages. l Predictive text: Touch the ON/OFF switch to turn predictive text On or Off. Predictive text suggests words matching your text entries, and optionally, complete common words automatically. Touch Predictive text to configure options: o Live word update: When enabled, Samsung keyboard automatically updates with popular new words every day. o Personalized data: When enabled, predictive text uses personal language data you have entered to make better predictions. o Learn from Facebook: Log into Facebook to allow your tablet to learn your Facebook style. o Learn from Gmail: Log into Gmail to allow your tablet to learn from your Gmail email. o Learn from Twitter: Log into Twitter to allow your tablet to learn from your Twitter postings.
Settings102 o Learn from Contacts: Allow your tablet to learn from your Contacts entries. o Clear server data: Remove all anonymous data stored on the personalization server. o Clear personalized data: Remove all personalized data you have entered. o Privacy policy: View information about privacy policies for personalization. l Keyboard swipe: Configure options for entering text by swiping your finger over the letters, instead of tapping each letter individually. o None: When enabled, the keyboard doesn’t recognize swipes on the keyboard as text. o Continuous input: When enabled, you can enter text by sliding your finger across the keys on the keyboard. o Cursor control: When enabled, you can slide your finger across the keyboard to move the cursor to begin entering text. l Key-tap feedback: Choose options for the keyboard to indicate your entries. o Sound: When enabled, the keyboard plays a sound for your key taps. o Character preview: When enabled, the character displays in a bubble as you tap each key. l More settings: o Help: Learn about Samsung Keyboard. o Reset settings: Return settings to the defaults. Swype Swype is a new way to enter text on touch screens. Instead of touching each key individually, use your finger to trace over the letters of a word. For each word, place your finger on the first letter and glide to the subsequent letters, lifting on the last letter. 1. Press and then touch > Settings > Language and input. 2. Touch next to Swype to configure these options: l Settings: Set Swype options. o Sound on keypress: Play sounds for your Swype touches. o Long-press delay: A “long press” is a touch-and-hold gesture you can use on multi- function keys to display a menu of alternate characters. The long-press delay sets the length of time Swype will measure to distinguish a long press from a regular key press. o Show complete trace: When enabled, the trace of each word displays briefly as you draw it.
