Troubleshooting_ 81 In the exit area Click this link to open an animation about clearing a jam. 1. Ope n and close the top cover. The jammed paper is automatically ejected from the machine. 2. Remove the jammed paper by pulling in the direction shown. To avoid tearing the paper, pull it out gently and slowly. If you do not see the jammed paper or if there is any resistance when you pull, stop and go to the next step. 3. Ope n the rear cover. 4. By op ening the fuser lever, loosen the jammed paper. Then gently pull th e paper straight out. 5.Put the fuser levers to their original position and close the rear cover. Printing automatically resumes. In the duplex unit area If the duplex unit is not inserted co rrectly, paper jam may occur. Make sure that the duplex unit is inserted correctly. UNDERSTANDING DISPLAY MESSAGES Messages appear on the Smart Panel program window or on the control panel display to indicate machine status or errors. Refer to the tables below to understand the messages’ meaning to correct the problem. Messages and their explanations are listed in alphabetical order. • Select the error message and press OK in the control panel to see in details. • If a message is not in the table, reboot the power and try the print - i ng job again. If the problem persists, call for service. • W hen you call for service, provide th e service representative with the contents of display message. • So me messages may not appear in the display depending on the o ptions or models. • [error number] indicate s the error number. • [tray type] indicates the tray number. • [medi a type] indicates the media type. • [medi a size] indicates the media size. Not Compati- ble The imaging unit you h ave installed is not for your machine. Install a Samsung-gen -uine imaging unit, designed for your machine. IMG. Not Installed The imaging unit is not install ed or the CRUM (Consumer Replaceable Unit Monitor) in the imag - ing unit is not properly conn ected. Reinstall the imaging unit two or three times. If the problem persists, the imaging unit is not being detected.Call for service. Install duplex unit Duplex unit is not install ed.Installed the duplex unit. Refer to the installation guide that came with the duplex unit. Install waste toner The waste toner bottle is not install ed. Install the waste toner bo ttle. Clear the jam (See In the multi-purpose tray on page 79 ). Prepare IMG. unit Small amount of toner is left in the imaging unit. The estimated imaging unit life is close.Prepare a new imaging unit for replacement. Prepare new toner Small amount of toner is left in the cartridge. The estimated cartridge life of toner is close. Prepare a new cartridge for re placement. You may temporarily increase the printing quality by redistributing the toner (See Redis- tributing toner on page 76 ). Rear Door Open The rear door is open.Close the rear door. Replace Fuser unit The fuser unit has re ached the end of its lifespan.This message appears when the fuser unit is worn. Troubleshooting_ 88 Replace IMG.unit The indicated imaging uni t has almost reached its estimated cartridge life. The machine might stop printing. Estimated car - tridge life means th e expected or estimated toner cartridge life, which indicates the aver - age capacity of prin t-outs and is designed pursuant to ISO/IEC 19752. Th e number of pages may be affected by the per - centage of image area , operating environment, print - ing interval, media typ e and media size. Some amount of toner may remain in the car - tridge even when red LED is turns on and the printer stops printing. • Rep lace the imaging unit for the best print quality when this message appears. Using the imaging unit beyond this stage can result in printing quality issues. (See Replac- ing the imaging unit on page 99 ) Samsung does not recom - mend using no n-genuine Samsung toner cartridge such as refilled or remanufac - tured. Sam - sung cannot gu arantee non-genuine Samsung toner cartridges qual - ity. Service or repa ir required as a result of using non-gen - uine Samsung toner car - tridges will not be cover ed under the machine war - ranty. • If the machin e stops printing, replace the imaging unit (See Replacing the imag - ing unit on page 99 ). MESSAGEMEANINGSUGGESTED SOLU- TIONS Replace new toner The indicated toner car- tridge has almost re ached its estimated cartridge life. The machine might stop print- ing. Troubleshooting_ 90 Paper feeding problems CONDITIONSUGGESTED SOLUTIONS Paper jams during printing. Clear the paper jam (See Clearing paper jams on page 77 ). Paper sticks together. • Check the ma ximum paper capacity of the tray (See Print media specifications on page 110 ). • Make sure that you are using the correct type of pa per (See Print media specifications on page 110 ). • Remove pap er from th e tray and flex or fan the paper. • Humid conditions may cause some paper to stick together, install paper from a fresh ream. Multiple sheets of paper do not feed.Different types of paper may be stacked in the tray. Load paper of only one type, size, and weight. Paper does not feed into the machine. • Remove any obstructions from inside the machine. • Pa per has not been loaded correctly. Remove pape r from the tray and reload it correctly. • The re is too much paper in the tray. Remove excess p aper from the tray. • The paper is too thick. Use only paper that me ets the specificati ons required by the machine (See Print media specifications on page 110 ). • If an original does not feed into the machine, the document feeder rubber pad may require to be replaced. Contact a service representa- tive. The paper keeps jamming. • There is too much paper in the tray. Remove excess paper from the tray. If you are printing on special materials, use the multi-purpose tray. • An incorrect type of paper is being used. Use only pap er that meets the specifications required by the machine (See Print media specifications on page 110 ). • The re may be debris inside the machine. Ope n the front door and remove any debris. •If an original does not feed into the machine, the document feeder rubber pad may need to be replaced. Contact a service representative. Envelopes skew or fail to feed correctly. Ensure that the paper guides are against both sides of the envelopes. Printing problems CONDITIONPOSSIBLE CAUSESUGGESTED SOLU - TIONS The machine does not print. The machine is not rece iving power. Check the power cord con - nections. Check both power sw itch es and the power source. The machine is not selected fro m the available printers list. Select this printers “Name” from the avail able printers drop-down list in the applica- tion you are printing from Check the machine for the following: • The front door is not closed. Close the front door. • Paper is jammed. Clea r the paper jam (See Clearing paper jams on page 77). • No paper is loaded. Load paper (See Loa ding paper in tray on page 46 ). • The toner cartridge is not installed. Install the to ner cartridge. If a system error occurs, co ntact y our service repre- sentative. The connection pri n ter cable between the com- puter and the mach ine is no t con- nected properly. Disconnect the machine p r inter cable and reconnect it. The connection pri n ter cable between the com- puter and the mach ine is de fec- tive. If possible, attach the printer ca ble to another computer that is working properly and print a job. You can also try using a different machine printer cable. The port setting is incorrect. Check the Windows printer settings to make sure that the print job is sent to the correct port. If the computer has more than one port, make sure that the machine is attached to the correct one. The machine may be co nfigured incor - rectly. Check the P r inting Prefer - ences to ensure that all of the print settings are correc t (See Opening printing pref - erences on page 52 ). The printer driver may be incorrectly i nstalled. Repair the machine software (See Installing locally con - nected machine’s driver on page 32). The machine is mal f unctioning.
