Changing Your Settings 94 Android Beam When Android Beam is activated, you can beam app content to another NFC-capable device by holding the devices close together. You can beam browser pages, YouTube videos, contacts, and more.1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ Connections ➔ NFC ➔ Android Beam. 2. Ta p t h e OFF / ON icon to turn Android Beam ON . 3. Touch the back of your device with another NFC- capable device and the content is transferred. Nearby devices This option allows you to share your media files with nearby devices using DLNA and connected to the same Wi-Fi. 1. Connect to a Wi-Fi network. For more information, refer to “Activating Wi-Fi” on page 86. 2. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ Connections ➔ Nearby devices. 3. Ta p t h e OFF / ON icon to turn Nearby devices on . 4. Verify ( Nearby devices) appears at the top of the screen. 5. At the Nearby devices prompt, tap OK. 6. Ta p Shared contents, then check the media you would like to share. Tap OK. 7. Screen Mirroring The Screen Mirroring feature a llows you to share the media files on your device screen with an HDMI device such as an HDMI TV. Note: This feature requires the optional AllShare Cast dongle which is available as an accessory. See your AT&T Customer Service Representative for more information. 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ Connections ➔ Screen Mirroring. 2. Connect the AllShare Cast dongle to the HDMI device using an HDMI A-to-A cable. 3. Press ➔ Help for information on using Screen Mirroring. Sound Settings From this menu you can control the sounds on the phone. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ Device ➔ Sound. The following options display: Vo l u me The Volume option allows you to change the volume for all phone sounds in one easy location. 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ Device ➔ Sound ➔ Volume. 2. Touch and drag the slider to adjust the sound volume for Music, video, games and other media, Ringtone, Notifications, and System. 3. Ta p OK. Ringtones This option allows you to set the ringtone. 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ Device ➔ Sound. 2. Ta p Ringtones. 3. Tap a ringtone and tap OK. – or – Ta p Add to select a file from your music files. Vibrations This option allows you to set your phone to vibrate and ring. 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ Device ➔ Sound. 2. Ta p Vibrations. 3. Select a vibration pattern and tap OK. – or – Ta p Create and follow the on-screen instructions to create your own vibration. Default notification sound This option allows you to set the default ringtone that will sound for notifications and alarms. 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ Device ➔ Sound. 2. Ta p Default notification sound. 3. Tap a ringtone and tap OK. Vibrate when ringing This option allows you to enable your phone to vibrate whenever it rings. 1. 97 System Tone Settings The System tone settings are used when you use the dialing pad, make a screen selection, lock your screen, or tap the screen.1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ Device ➔ Sound. 2. Tap any of the following options to create a checkmark and activate the feature: Dialing keypad tone: makes a sound when you tap a key on the keyboard. Touch sounds: makes a sound when you touch the screen. Screen lock sound: makes a sound when your screen is locked or unlocked. Haptic feedback: makes a vibration when you tap soft keys and on certain UI interactions. Pen attach/detach sound: allows you to select a sound that will be heard whenever the S Pen is attached or detached from the phone. Choose Off or 3 different sounds. Samsung Keyboard Settings The Samsung keyboard settings are used when you use the dialing pad, make a screen selection, lock your screen, or tap the screen. 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ Device ➔ Sound. 2. Tap any of the following options to create a checkmark and activate the feature: Key-tap sound: makes a sound when you tap a key on the Samsung keyboard. Key-tap vibration: makes a vibration when you tap a key on the Samsung keyboard. Audio Output This sound feature configures the audio output. 1. Changing Your Settings 98 Adapt sound The Adapt sound feature allows you to customize your call sounds. 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ Device ➔ Sound ➔ Adapt sound. 2. Read the instructions and tap Start. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your personal call sound. Display Settings In this menu, you can change va rious settings for the display. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ Device ➔ Display. The following options display: allows you to configure the LCD Brightness levels. –Ta p Automatic brightness to allow the device to self-adjust and tap OK. - or - Touch and slide the on-screen slider to adjust the level and tap OK. Screen timeout: allows you to adjust the delay time before the screen automatically turns off. Make an available selection. Choices include: 15 seconds, 30 seconds, 1 minute, 3 minutes, 5 minutes, and 10 minutes. Touch key light duration: allows you to adjust the delay before the Touch key light automatically turns off. Screen mode: allows you to select from several different color modes. Reading mode: allows you to activate an optimized reading mode for selected applications. This menu allows you to assign available applications (such as Calculator, Camera, Contacts, etc...) for enhancement using the Reader mode. Tap the OFF / ON icon next to Reading mode to turn it on . Auto adjust screen tone: adjusts the phone’s LCD brightness level to automatically adjust and conserve battery power. : allows you to control what your screen does when your device is docked or sleeping. 99 Auto rotate screen when enabled, this feature, allows the device to automatically switch from portrait to landscape orientation and vice versa. When this setting is disabled, the device displays in portrait mode only. Show battery percentage when enabled, displays of battery charge percentage atop the battery icon at the top of the screen. Edit after screen capture when enabled, this feature takes you to the Edit screen after capturing a screen image. Multi window This option to enable/disabl e the automatic Multi window feature. 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ Device. 2. Ta p t h e OFF / ON icon next to Multi window to the right to turn it on . 3. Ta p t h e Open in multi window view field to automatically view content in multi window when you open files from My Files or Video, or attachments from emails and messages. LED indicator This option allows you to turn on your LED lights for charging, missed events, and incoming noti fications. The light will turn on by default unless you turn them off. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ Device ➔ LED indicator. 4. Tap the following LED indicator options to turn them on or off: : LED lights up when the device is connected to the charger. : LED lights up when the battery level is low. Notifications: LED lights up when you have missed calls, messages, or application events. Voice recording: LED lights up when you are recording voice. The LED only lights up when the screen is off. For more information about using the lock and unlock features, see “Locking and Unlocking the Touch Screen” on page 11. Screen Lock 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ Device ➔ Lock screen. 2. Ta p Screen lock for these options then follow the on- screen instructions to set up your Screen lock: : Swipe the screen to unlock it. : Write your signature to unlock it. Pattern: A screen unlock pattern is a touch gesture you create and use to unlock your device. Follow the prompts to create or change your screen unlock pattern. : Select a PIN to use for unlocking the screen. : Create a password for unlocking the screen. : No pattern, PIN, or password is required. The screen will never lock. Lock screen options Activate or deactivates various Unlock screen functions. Note: The Lock screen options will differ depending on what type of Screen Lock you have selected in step 2. 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ Device ➔ Lock screen. 2. The following options are available depending on the Screen Lock type that you have selected: Swipe options Multiple widgets allows you to display multiple widgets on your lock screen. Appears as an options after a lock mode is enabled. Ink effect sets the coloring for the on-screen ink used in writing/drawing. Wake up in lock screen requires that you say a command to wake-up your phone. Action Memo on lock screen allows you to open the Action Memo when double tapping the lock screen with S Pen. shows help information on the Lock screen. Signature options Clock widget options allows you to show the dual clock on the lock screen, adjust the Clock size, and show the date. Personal message allows you to enter a customized personalized message that is displayed on the lock screen. Touch and slide the slider to the right to turn it on . Owner information allows you enter text to display on the lock screen. Make signature visible allows your signature to be visible while you are writing. Accuracy level allows you to set how accurate the signature should be. Select High, Medium, or Low. Secured lock time locks the screen instantly when the screen times out or the power key is pressed. Action Memo on lock screen allows you to open the Action Memo when double tapping the lock screen with S Pen. Patter n options allows you to show the dual clock on the lock screen, adjust the Clock size, and show the date. Personal message allows you to enter a customized personalized message that is displayed on the lock screen. Font This function adjusts the delay time before the screen automatically turns off. 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ Device ➔ Font. 2. The following Font options are available: Font style: sets the fonts used on the LCD display. Select a font or tap Get fonts online to download additional fonts. : allows you to select which size of font is displayed. Notification Panel This feature allows you to set the brightness of your notification panel and also select the quick setting buttons that you want to display at the top of the notification panel. For more information, refer to “Notification Panel” on page 42. 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ Device ➔ Notification panel. 2. 103 To customize the notification panel quick access buttons: 1.Access the Notification Panel screen. The set of buttons within the Notification panel area are those that are available within the Notifications panel. They provide quick access to available features. These can be customized by the user. 2. Replace existing notification panel buttons by: In a single motion, touch and drag an available button from the bottom of the screen into a location within the Notification panel area. One of the 10 default buttons is then replaced with the new selection. 3. Ta p Reset to restore the Notification Panel buttons to their original configuration. Easy Mode This application allows you to leave your display using the default layout of Standard mode or provide an easier user experience for the first-ti me smartphone users using Easy mode . 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ Device ➔ Easy mode. 2. Ta p t h e OFF / ON icon next to Easy mode to the right to turn it on . Accessibility Accessibility services are special features to make using the device easier for those with certain physical disabilities. Use the Accessibility settings to activate these services. Note: You can download accessibility applications from Play Store and manage their use here. 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ Device ➔ Accessibility. 2. The following options are available: Auto rotate screen: automatically rotate the screen from landscape to portrait when you rotate your phone. Screen timeout: timeout the accessibility feature after a defined amount of time. Speak passwords: reads out password information.
