After a few seconds (depending on file size) the recipient with then see the transferred file d isplayed on their screen. To share multiple pictures via S Beam: 1.On the source device (conta ining the desired image or video), tap ➔ Gallery . 2. Locate the selected folder. 3. Touch and hold the first image and place a checkmark on it and all desired images. 4. Place the two active NFC-enabled devices back to back to begin. 5. From the Touch to beam screen, tap the reduced image preview to begin the transfer. 6. When prompted, separate the two devices. 7. The picture(s) is transferred to the other device.
85 Section 6: Changing Your Settings This section explains the settings used for customizing your device. Accessing Settings 1. From any Home screen, tap ➔ Settings . – or – From any Home screen, press ➔ Settings. Settings Tabs The Settings are divided into 4 main groups. When the Settings screen displays, the following 4 tabs are located at the top of the screen: Connections: This tab allows you to see all of settings related to the connection of your devi ce to external sources. Options include: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Tethering and portable hotspot, Airpla ne mode, Data usage, Location services, More networks (Mobile networks and VPN), NFC, S Beam, Near by devices, and Screen Mirroring.Connections Device: This tab provides access to display configuration and features. Options include: Sound, Display, Multi window, LED indicator, Lock screen, Wallpaper, Font, Notification panel, Easy mode, Accessibility, Call, and Blocking mode. Controls: This tab provides access to Voice and input methods and Motion control. Options include: Language and input, Voice control, Hands-free mode, S Pen, One- handed operation, Air ge sture, Air view, Air command, Motions, Palm motion, Smart screen, and Increase touch sensitivity. Options under the Connections tab are listed first, followed by Device, Controls, and General settings. Wi-Fi Settings This section describes the Wi-Fi settings. For information on how to use Wi-Fi, see “Wi-Fi” on page 153. Activating Wi-Fi 1.From the Home screen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ Connections ➔ Wi-Fi. 2. Tap the ON/OFF slider, located to the right of the Wi-Fi field, to turn Wi-Fi ON . 3. Ta p Scan to scan for available Wi-Fi networks. For more information, refer to “Connect to a Wi-Fi Network” on page 153. Activating Wi-Fi Direct Wi-Fi Direct allows device-to- device connections so you can transfer large amounts of data over a Wi-Fi connection. 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ Connections ➔ Wi-Fi. 2. Tap the ON/OFF slider, located to the right of the Wi-Fi field, to turn Wi-Fi ON . 3. At the bottom of the Wi-Fi screen, tap the Wi-Fi Direct button. For more information, refer to “Wi-Fi Direct” on page 156. Advanced Wi-Fi Settings The advanced Wi-Fi settings allow you to set up and manage wireless access points. 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ Connections ➔ Wi-Fi. 2. Press ➔ Advanced. The following options are available: General: This tab provides access to the General set of device settings not listed under th e other three tabs. These include Accounts, Backup and reset, Date and time, Accessory, Browser Bar, Application manager, Battery, Power saving mode, Storage, Security, and About device.General Connections Connections Connections
87 Network notification: alerts you when a new WAP is available. Passpoint: allows you to connect to passpoint-enabled Wi-Fi Access Points automatically. Touch and slide the slider to the right to turn it on . : allows you to sort by alphabet or RSSI. Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep: allows you to specify when to disconnect from Wi-Fi. Always allow scanning: allows the Google location service and other apps to scan for networks, even when Wi-Fi is turned off. Auto network switch: allows the device to automatically switch between a Wi-Fi network or a cellular network. Auto connect: allows you to be automatically connected to an AT&T Wi-Fi Hotspot as soon as your phone detects it. Install certificates: allows you to install security certificates that you have on a MicroSD card. : view your device’s MAC address, required when connecting to some secured networks (not configurable). : view your device’s IP address. Bluetooth settings In this menu you can activate Bluetooth, view or assign a device name, activate your ph one so other Bluetooth devices can discover it, or scan for other, available Bluetooth devices with which to pair. Activating Bluetooth 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ Connections. 2. Tap the ON/OFF slider, located to the right of the Bluetooth field, to turn Bluetooth ON . The Bluetooth icon is displayed on the status bar. Additional Bluetooth Settings When Bluetooth is on, additional settings are available. 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ Connections ➔ Bluetooth. 2. Ta p Scan to scan for nearby discoverable devices. After searching, tap a device to pair with it. Changing Your Settings 88 Visibility timeout: Use this setting to control when to automatically turn off the Discoverable option: 2 minutes, 5 minutes, 1 hour, or Never time out. Received files: Shows the list of files received by using Bluetooth. : Displays additional Bluetooth information. 4. Tap the checkbox next to SAMSUNG-SM-N900A to remove the checkmark if you do not want your phone visible to other Bluetooth devices. Tethering & por table hotspot This option allows you to share your phones’s mobile data connection via USB or as a portable Wi-Fi hotspot. Mobile Hotspot Note: To enable Mobile Hotspot on your phone, dial 611 or go to att.com/mywireless to set up the service. 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Mobile Hotspot . – or – From the Home screen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ Connections ➔ Tethering and portable hotspot ➔ Mobile Hotspot. 2. Turn Mobile Hotspot on by tapping the slider so that it changes to the ON position . The Mobile Hotspot icon is displayed at the top of your screen. 3. Ta p Configure, to configure your Mobile Hotspot settings. 4. Ta p Allowed devices to set up the devices that you will allow to use your Mobile Hotspot. 5. Follow the on-screen instructions to use Mobile Hotspot. USB tethering Note: To enable USB tethering on your phone, dial 611 or go to att.com/mywireless to set up the service. 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ Connections ➔ Tethering and portable hotspot. 2. Connect your phone to your PC using a USB cable. Connections Connections
893. Ta p USB tethering to add a checkmark and activate the feature. The USB tethering icon is displayed at the top of your screen. 4. Follow the on-screen instructions to use USB tethering. Help From the Tethering and portable hotspot menu, Press ➔ Help for additional information Airplane mode Airplane mode allows you to use many of your phone’s features, such as Camera, Games, and more, when you are in an airplane or in any other area where making or receiving calls or data is prohibited. Important! When your phone is in Airplane Mode, it cannot send or receive any calls or access online information or applications. 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ Connections. 2. Ta p t h e Airplane mode checkbox to create a checkmark and activate the feature. 3. At the Turn on airplane mode prompt, tap OK. The Airplane mode icon is displayed at the top of your screen. Data Usage From this screen you can view your Mobile data usage and turn your Mobile data capability On or Off. 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ Connections ➔ Data usage. 2. Ta p Mobile data to create a checkmark and turn Mobile data usage on. 3. Ta p Set mobile data limit to create a checkmark and allow a data limit to be set. 4. Touch and drag the orange limit bar to the GB limit that you desire. 5. Ta p t h e Data usage cycle drop-down menu and select a date. The data usage displays as a visual (chart) and also displays a list of each application with a breakdown of how much data was used per application. Note: Data is measured by your device. Your service provider may account for data usage differently. Connections Connections
Changing Your Settings 90 6. Press to display additional options. Tap to activate. Data roaming: enables data roaming on your device. Restrict background data: restricts some apps and services from working unless you are connected to a Wi-Fi network. Auto sync data: allows your accounts to automatically sync : displays a Wi-Fi tab that shows Wi-Fi usage. Mobile hotspots: displays available mobile hotspots. Location ser vices The Location services settings allow you to set up how the phone will determine your loca tion and the sensor settings for your phone. 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ Connections ➔ Location services. 2. Tap any of the following options to create a checkmark and activate the service: Access to my location: allows apps that have asked your permission to use your location information. Use GPS satellites: allows applications to use GPS to pinpoint your location. Use wireless networks: allows applications to use data from mobile networks and Wi-Fi to help determine your location. : allows you to add location information for your Home, Office, and Car. More networks This option displays additional Connectivity information. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ Connections ➔ More networks. Options display for Mobile networks and VPN. Mobile networks Before you use applications such as Google Maps and find your location or search for places of interest, you must enable the Mobile networks options. Mobile data To enable data access over the mobile network, this option must be selected. It is set on by default. 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ Connections ➔ More networks ➔ Mobile networks. 2. Ta p Mobile data to create a checkmark and activate the feature. Connections Connections Connections
91 Data Roaming Data roaming allows you to connect to your service provider’s partner networks and access data services when you are out of your service providers area of coverage.1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ Connections ➔ More networks ➔ Mobile networks. 2. Ta p Data roaming to create a checkmark and activate the feature. Access Point Names To use Wi-Fi you need access to a wireless access point (hotspot). 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ Connections ➔ More networks ➔ Mobile networks. 2. Ta p Access Point Names. A list of the Access Point names display. The active access point displays a green, filled circle to the right of the name. Network Operators Using this feature you can view the current network connection. You can also scan and select a network operator manually, or set the network selection to Automatic. 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ Connections ➔ More networks ➔ Mobile networks. 2. Ta p Network operators. The current network connection displays at the bottom of the list. Important! You must deactivate data service prior to searching for an available network. Note: Connecting to 2G networks slows the data transfer speed and time. Default setup options Your phone default is set to Automatic (to automatically search for an available network. You can set this option to Manual to select a network each time you connect. 1. Ta p Manual to locate and connect to a network manually, or tap Automatic to allow the device to automatically select a network. Search for AT&T MicroCell If you have purchased the AT&T Microcell you can set your network to use it. 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ Connections ➔ More networks ➔ Mobile networks ➔ Network operators. 2. Ta p Search for AT&T MicroCell. 3. Follow the on-screen instructions. Note: For additional information please contact your AT&T service representative. VPN settings The VPN settings menu allows you to set up and manage Virtual Private Networks (VPNs). Important! Before you can use a VPN you must establish and configure one. Adding a Basic VPN Before you add a VPN you must determine which VPN protocol to use: PPTP (Point -to-Point Tunneling Protocol), L2TP(Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol )/IPSec PSK (Pre-shared key based L2TP/IPSec), L2TP/IPSec RSA (Public key based L2TP/ IPSec), IPSec Xauth (Cross authentication) PSK, IPSec Xauth RSA, or IPSec Hybrid (authentication) RSA. 1. Before using VPN, you must first set up a screen unlock PIN or password. For more information, refer to “Lock Screen Settings” on page 100. 2. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ Connections ➔ More networks ➔ VPN. 3. Ta p Basic VPN. 4. Ta p Add. 5. Enter a name for the VPN network in the Name field. Connections Connections

Enter the Server address and any other required fields that are dependent upon the Ty p e you entered previously. 8. Ta p t h e Show advanced options check box to display additional VPN options. 9. Ta p Save to save your VPN settings. Adding an IPsec VPN 1.Before using VPN, you must first set up a screen unlock PIN or password. For more information, refer to “Lock Screen Settings” on page 100. 2. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ Connections ➔ More networks ➔ VPN. 3. Ta p Advanced IPsec VPN. 4. Ta p Add VPN Connection. 5. Enter a password, confirm the password, and tap OK. 6. Enter a name for the VPN connection in the VPN connection name field. 7. Select a IPsec connection type from the drop-down menu. 8. Enter any other required information. 9. Ta p Show advanced options to display additional VPN options. 10. Ta p Save to save your VPN settings. NFC NFC (Near Field Communication) allows data exchange when you touch your device with another compatible device. This is used for applications such as Android Beam and S Beam. To activate NFC, follow these steps: 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ Connections ➔ NFC. 2. Tap the ON/OFF slider, located to the right of the NFC field, to turn NFC ON . Connections Connections
