Using Your Printer with a Macintosh 32 8Using Your Printer with a Macintosh Your machine supports Macintosh systems with a built-in USB interface or a 10/100 Base-TX network interface card. When you print a file from a Macint osh computer, you can use the PostScript driver by installing the PPD file. NOTE: Some printers do not support a network interface. Make sure that your printer supports a network interface by referring to Printer Specifications in your Printer User’s Guide. This chapter includes: • Installing Software for Macintosh • Setting Up the Printer •Printing Installing Software for Macintosh The PostScript driver CD-ROM that came with your machine provides you with the PPD file to use the PS driver, Apple LaserWriter driver, for printi ng on a Macintosh computer. Verify the following before you install the printer software: 1Connect your machine to th e computer using the USB cable or the Ethernet cable. 2Turn on your computer and the machine. 3Insert the PostScript driver CD-ROM which came with your machine into the CD-ROM drive. 4Double-click the Samsung_CLBP on your Macintosh desktop. 5Double-click the MAC_Installer folder. 6Double-click the Samsung_CLBP Installer OSX icon. 7Click Continue. 8Click Install. 9After the installation is finished, click Quit. Using Your Printer with a Macintosh 33 Setting Up the Printer Set up for your printer will be different depending on which cable you use to connect the pr inter to your computer—the network cable or the USB cable. For a Network-connected Macintosh NOTE: Some printers do not support a network interface. Before connecting your printer, make sure that your printer supports a network interface by referring to Printer Specifications in your Printer User’s Guide. Mac OS 8.6 ~ 9.2 1Follow the instructions on “Installing Software for Macintosh” on page 32 to install the PPD file on your computer. 2From the Apple menu, select Chooser. 3Click LaserWriter 8 (the PostScript driver provided with your Macintosh). The name of your machine appears on the list. 4Select SEC000xxxxxxxxx from the printer box (where the xxxxxxxxx varies depending on each of the machines) and Click Select. If Auto Setup does not work properly, click Select PPD, choose your printer name, and click OK. 5When the setup is complete, you see your machine icon created as a desktop printer. 6Close the Chooser. 7When a message window appe ars telling you that you have changed your current machine, click OK. Mac OS 10.1 or higher 1Follow the instructions on “Installing Software for Macintosh” on page 32 to install the PPD file on your computer. 2Open Print Center or Printer Setup Utility from the Utilities folder. 3Click Add on the Printer List. 4Select the AppleTalk tab. The name of your machine appears on the list. Select SEC000xxxxxxxxx from the printer box, where the xxxxxxxxx varies depending on your machine. 5Click Add. 6If Auto Select does no t work properly, select Samsung in Printer Model and your printer name in Model Name. Your machine appears on the Printer List. And you can set your machine as the default printer. 34 Printing NOTES: • The Macintosh printer’s proper ties window that appears in this User’s Guide may differ depending on the printer in use. However the composition of the printer properties window is similar. • You can check your printer name in the supplied Printer software CD. Printing a Document When you print with a Macintosh, you need to check the printer software setting in each applicat ion you use. Follow these steps to print from a Macintosh. 1Open a Macintosh application and select the file you want to print. 2Open the File menu and click Page Setup (Document Setup in some applications). 3Choose your paper size, orientation, scaling, and other options and click OK. 4Open the File menu and click Print. 5Choose the number of copies yo u want and indicate which pages you want to print. 6Click Print when you finish setting the options. ▲ Mac OS 10.3 Make sure that your printer is selected. Changing Printer Settings You can use advanced printing features when using your printer. From your Macintosh application, select Print from the File menu. The printer name which appears in the printer properties window may differ depending on the printer in use. Except for the name, the composition of the printer properties window is similar. Layout Setting The Layout tab provides options to adjust how the document appears on the printed page. You can print multiple pages on one sheet of paper. Select Layout from the Presets drop-down list to access the following features. 35 Printer Features Setting The Printer Features tab provides options for selecting the paper type and adjusting print quality. Select Printer Features from the Presets drop-down list to access the following features: Fit to Page This printer feature allows you to scale your print job to any selected paper size regardless of the digital document size. This can be useful when you want to check fine details on a small document. Paper Type Set type to correspond to the pape r loaded in the tray from which you want to print. This will let you get the best quality printout. Resolution(Quality) The Resolution options you can select may vary depending on your printer model. You can select the printing resolution. Th e higher the setting, th e sharper the clarity of printed characters and graphics. The higher setting also may increase the time it takes to print a document. Color Mode Yo u c a n set the color options. Setting to Color typically produces the best possible print quality for color documents. If you want to print a color document in grayscale, select Grayscale. ▲ Mac OS 10.3 Printing Multiple Pages on One Sheet of Paper You can print more than one page on a single sheet of paper. This feature provides a cost-effective way to print draft pages. 1From your Macintosh application, select Print from the File menu. 2Select Layout. 3Select the number of pages you want to print on one sheet of paper on the Pages per Sheet drop-down list. 4Select the page order from the Layout Direction option.
