    Changing the country code
    (DVD-Video discs only)
    The set filter values depend on the respective countr y.
    Therefore it is necessar y to enter the countr y in which you
    live.
    1Switch your TV set on. If necessar y set the TV to the
    correct audio/video channel. Such channels may be called
    AUX or AUXILIARY IN, AUDIO/VIDEO or A/V IN, EXT1,
    EXT2 or EXTERNAL IN, etc. These channels are often near
    channel 00.
    2Press2to switch on the DVD recorder system.
    3Press SYSTEM MENU on the remote control.
    ➜The system menu bar appears.
    4Press 1on the remote control as often as necessar y until
    Ais selected.
    5Press 4or 3on the remote control as often as necessar y
    until wFeaturesis selected.
    6Press 2on the remote control to confirm the selection.
    7Press 2on the remote control to confirm the selected line
    Access control,Enter code….
    8Use the numerical keys on the remote control to enter the
    4-digit code.
    9Press 4or 3on the remote control as often as necessar y
    until the line Change countryis selected.
    10Press 2on the remote control to confirm the selection.

    to select the corresponding countr y.
    12Press OK on the remote control to confirm the selection.
    13Press SYSTEM MENU on the remote control to switch off
    the system menu bar.
    Changing the 4-digit code
    (DVD-Video discs, (Super) Video
    CDs, DVD+R discs, DVD+RW
    discs only)
    1Switch your TV set on. If necessar y set the TV to the
    correct audio/video channel. Such channels may be called
    AUX or AUXILIARY IN, AUDIO/VIDEO or A/V IN, EXT1,
    EXT2 or EXTERNAL IN, etc. These channels are often near
    channel 00.
    2Press2to switch on the DVD recorder system.
    3Press SYSTEM MENU on the remote control.
    ➜The system menu bar appears.
    4Press 1on the remote control as often as necessar y until
    Ais selected.
    5Press 4or 3on the remote control as often as necessar y
    until wFeaturesis selected.
    6Press 2on the remote control to confirm the selection.
    7Press 2on the remote control to confirm the selected line
    Access control,Enter code….
    8Use the numerical keys on the remote control to enter the
    old4-digit code.
    9Press 4or 3on the remote control as often as necessar y
    until the line Change codeis selected.
    10Press 2on the remote control to confirm the selection.
    11Use the numerical keys on the remote control to enter the
    new4-digit code.
    12Enter the same code again as confirmation.
    13Press SYSTEM MENU on the remote control to switch off
    the system menu bar.
    If you have forgotten your 4-digit code
    1Follow steps 1–7 as described above.
    2Press STOPÇ4 times when prompted for the
    4-digit code.
    ➜The old 4-digit code is deleted.
    3Enter a new 4-digit code twice.

    							WARNING
    Under no circumstances should you try to repair the set yourself as this
    will invalidate the guarantee. Do not open the set as there is a risk of
    electric shock.
    If a fault occurs, first check the points listed before taking the set for
    repair. If you are unable to solve a problem by following these hints,
    consult your dealer or service centre.
    Laser safety
    This unit employs a laser. Only a qualified service person should remove
    the cover or attempt to service this device, due to possible eye injury.
    Problem Solution
    No power – Make sure the mains cable is connected properly.
    – Press 2STANDBY•ON on the set to switch it on.
    No reaction to controls and – The set is in initial installation mode: Switch the TV on, switch over to the 
    15 TV ON?indication DVD recorder system socket. The menu for language selection appears.
    Continue as described in the chapter “Basic settings”.
    Set does not work – The DVD recorder system has become too hot and the overheating safety 
    and is in standby circuit has been activated. Let the DVD recorder system cool down, then
    press 2to switch it on again.
    No reaction to controls – Check the power supply.
    – Disconnect the set from power supply, reconnect after 30 seconds.
    – Reset the set to the default factor y settings:All the information stored 
    (programmes, time and date) will be lost.
    1Disconnect the set from power supply.
    2Press and hold down 2STANDBY•ON on the set and reconnect the 
    set.
    3As soon as 15 TV ON? is displayed, release 2STANDBY•ON.
    4Continue as described in chapter “Basic settings”.
    Remote control does not function – Point the remote control towards the set.
    properly – Remove batteries, wait 10 seconds and inser t them correctly or inser t new 
    batteries.
    – Reduce distance to the set.
    – The remote control has been switched to control an external appliance.
    Briefly press DVD/MON or TUNER to control the DVD recorder or the 
    radio tuner.
    Demo mode is on – Keep STOP 9 pressed for at least 5 seconds to cancel the demo mode.
    External appliance not selectable – The selected appliance is not installed on the DVD recorder system. Please 
    and INSTALL SOURCEis scrolled see “When adding appliances or changing the connections of appliances” on
    how to install it.

    Does not play back – Make sure there is a recording on the disc.
    – Make sure the disc is not scratched or dir ty. Replace or clean the disc.
    – Make sure the disc has been inser ted, printed side up.
    – Check if the right disc type has been inser ted: DVD-Video disc, DVD-R(W),
    (Super) Video CD, Audio CD, CDR(W), MP3-CD or DVD+R(W)
    – Make sure the region code of the DVD disc matches the DVD recorder system.
    – Parental Control is switched on, see chapter “Access control”.
    – Make sure the correct programme number (channel number) for the 
    DVD recorder system has been selected on the TV set.
    – Check if the connection cable between DVD recorder system and TV set is 
    properly connected.
    – Wait until steamed up laser lens has cleared.
    No sound– Disconnect the headphones.
    – Switch on the selected source or select another source.
    No bass sound– Connect the supplied subwoofers.
    No sound on one of the speakers – Check if the speaker is connected properly.
    – Check if the speaker cable is damaged.
    No sound on the centre – Press SURR repeatedly to select another surround effect.
    and/or rear speakers– Make sure you have connected all speakers.
    – Make sure YEShas been selected for CNTR LSand REAR LSin the 
    audio menu. Please see chapter “When changing the speaker setup”.
    No digital surround sound – Check if the inser ted disc or the selected appliance suppor ts digital 
    (Dolby Digital, DTS, MPEG)surround sound.
    available– Check if the selected external appliance is connected to DIGITAL IN or 
    OPTICAL IN on the DVD recorder system.
    Picture and sound are not – Set the TV to the correct video channel for the DVD recorder system.
    simultaneous– The recording quality depends on the recording mode you have selected.
    During a recording from a satellite receiver, a video cassette recorder or a 
    game console (if connected to EXT2 AUX I/O), you can choose viewing the 
    original video quality or the recorded video quality. Press SAT or VCR/GAME 
    to see the original video quality or press DVD/MON to see the recorded 
    video quality.
    No picture, only sound is available – Set the TV to the correct video channel for the selected source.
    Poor quality of playback: distorted – Make sure the TV set is properly adjusted.
    picture and/or sound – Make sure the disc is not dir ty. Clean the disc.
    – Sometimes the picture may be temporarily distor ted. This is not a defect of 
    your DVD recorder system.
    Picture and/or sound interference – Switch to recording mode HQby using REC MODE during playback from the 
    on TV  reception internal TV tuner (DVD/MON). This will help to achieve the best possible 
    picture quality.
    – Check your aerial.
    – Change the TV system (see “Additional TV channel settings”)

    number (channel number) has been selected. Check the TV channels stored.
    – The inser ted disc is write protected. Remove the write protection or load 
    another non write protected disc.
    – An already finalised DVD+R disc has been inser ted. Replace it by an 
    unfinalised DVD+R disc.
    Timer recording does not work – Make sure the time/date is programmed correctly.
    – Make sure all information in the timer block is programmed correctly.
    – The inser ted disc is write protected. Remove the write protection or load 
    another non write protected disc.
    – Make sure no finalised DVD+R disc has been inser ted.
    – Make sure the time for VPS/PDC has been entered exactly to the minute.
    – Check the aerial connection.
    Wrong TV channel was recorded after –1Enter the ShowView®programming number of the desired TV channel.

    correspond to the desired TV channel, select the input field and change
    the programme number.
    4Press OK to confirm.
    Switch off; timer recordingflashes on – The DVD recorder system is switched on a few minutes before a timer 
    the TV  screen recording star ts. However, a timer recording only works if the 
    DVD recorder system is switched off. Press to switch the 
    DVD recorder system off.
    Inser t recordable discindication – Make sure a recordable DVD+R or DVD+RW disc is inser ted.
    Disc lockedis indicated briefly – A write protected disc has been inser ted. Cancel the write protection (see 
    “Activating or deactivating the write protection”) or load a disc that is not 
    write protected.
    Memor y fullindication after pressing – All timer blocks are already programmed. No fur ther recordings can be 
    TIMERon the remote control programmed unless an existing timer block is cleared.
    Data errorindication – The data for the recording could not be transferred. Check the date, star t 
    time and end time of the timer recording.
    Collisionindication – The data for 2 timer recordings overlap. Change the data for one 
    recording or delete one of the timer recordings. If you ignore the 
    indication, the timer recording with the earlier star t time will be 
    recorded first. The star t of the second recording will be missing.

    							Problem Solution
    The picture is distorted or – The TV system of the inser ted disc does not match the TV system of your TV 
    black-and-white during playback (PAL/NTSC).
    – Switch the following setting in the system menu:tPicture- SCART 
    video- switch to RGB
    No sound signal at the digital output – Check if the sound settings match the selected inputs and the connected 
    additional appliances.
    – If you inser ted an MP3-CD, the digital output is switched off during playback.
    This is in accordance with the SDMI (Secure Digital Music Initiative) and is 
    not a defect of your DVD recorder system.
    DVD+RW disc does not play on other – If a recording is too shor t, it is possible that a DVD player cannot detect it.
    DVD players Please pay attention to the following minimum recording times depending on 
    the different recording modes:HQ: 5 minutes,SP: 10 minutes,
    SP+: 13 minutes,LP: 15 minutes,EP: 20 minutes,EP+: 30 minutes
    – On some DVD players DVD+RW recordings cannot be played.You can use 
    the following special function to solve this problem for cer tain DVD players.
    However, please note that there is a risk that you can no longer play 
    the DVD+RW disc on other DVD players after this procedure. Therefore
    apply this function with par ticular care.
    1Press OPEN/CLOSE/on the set to open the drawer.
    2Inser t the disc in the tray, but do not close the tray.
    3Press the numerical key 2 on the remote control until the tray closes.
    ➜The disc is modified.
    0
    0If this fails to produce the desired result, repeat the procedure pressing the
    numerical key 3 on the remote control.
    0 0To restore the disc to its original condition press the numerical key 1 on 
    the remote control.
    Other disc errors – If playback of a DVD+RW disc is not possible at all, you can tr y to repair it 
    for new recordings. All existing recordings on the DVD+RW disc will be 
    deleted.
    1Clean the DVD+RW disc.
    2Press OPEN/CLOSE/on the set to open the drawer.
    3Inser t the DVD+RW disc in the tray, but do not close the tray.
    4Keep CLEAR on the remote control pressed until the tray closes.
    ➜The DVD+RW is repaired for new recordings.
