    7Turn the gear of blue core in the direction of 
    the arrow.
    LMake sure that the ink film is wrapped 
    around the blue core at least once.8Close the back cover securely by pushing 
    down on the dotted area at both ends (1). 
    Close the front cover securely (2).
    LThe following message will be displayed 
    while the unit is checking that there is no 
    slack in the ink film.
    PLEASE WAIT
    Note:
    LThe ink film is safe to touch, and will not rub 
    off on your hands like carbon paper.

    When the recording paper has 
    jammed in the unit
    The display will show the following.
    PAPER JAMMED
    1Open the front cover by pulling up the 
    center part.
    2Push the back cover open button (green) on 
    the right side of the unit.
    OR
    Push the back cover open lever (green) 
    inside of the unit.
    3Open the back cover.
    4Remove the jammed recording paper.

    5Turn the gear of blue core in the direction of

    When the recording paper was 
    not fed into the unit properly 
    The display will show the following.
    CHECK PAPER
    Remove the recording paper and straighten. Pull 
    the tension plate forward and hold open while 
    inserting paper.
    Press {SET} to clear the message.

    Document feeder
    Clean the document feeder in the following cases:
    –If misfeeding of the document occurs frequently.
    –If smudges or black/white lines appear on the original document when transmitting or copying.
    1Disconnect the power cord and the 
    telephone line cord.
    2Open the front cover by pulling up the 
    center part.
    3Clean the document feeder rollers and 
    rubber flap with a cloth moistened with 
    isopropyl rubbing alcohol, and let all parts 
    dry thoroughly.
    Caution:
    LDo not use paper products, such as 
    paper towels or tissues.
    4Clean the glass with a soft and dry cloth.

    5Close the front cover securely.
    6Connect the power cord and the telephone 
    line cord.

    Thermal head
    If smudges or black/white lines appear on a copied/received document, check whether there is dust on 
    the thermal head. Clean the thermal head to remove the dust.
    1Disconnect the power cord and the 
    telephone line cord.
    2Open the front cover by pulling up the 
    center part.
    3Push the back cover open button (green) on 
    the right side of the unit.
    OR
    Push the back cover open lever (green) 
    inside of the unit.
    4Open the back cover.
    Remove the ink film.
    5Clean the thermal head with a cloth 
    moistened with isopropyl rubbing alcohol, 
    and let it dry thoroughly.
    Caution:
    LTo prevent a malfunction due to 
    static electricity, do not use a dry 
    cloth and do not touch the thermal 
    head directly.

    6Replace the ink film.

    General Information
    Reference lists and reports 
    You can print out the following lists and reports for your reference.
    Setup list:
    provides you with the current settings of the basic and advanced programming features (page 60 to page 
    63).
    Telephone number list:
    provides you with names and telephone numbers which are stored in one-touch dial and navigator 
    directory.
    Journal report:
    keeps records of fax transmission and reception. This report will be printed automatically after every 30 
    fax communications (feature #22 on page 61).
    Printer test:
    allows you to check the print quality of your unit. If the test print has a smudge, or blurred points or lines, 
    clean the thermal head (page 77).
    Broadcast programming list:
    provides you with entries which are stored in the broadcast feature (page 47).
    Caller ID list:
    keeps records of the last 30 callers after subscribing to a Caller ID service. This report will be printed 
    automatically after every 30 callers (feature #26 on page 61).

    LIf you subscribe to openLCR service, the unit will start the first download of the rate table to your fax 
    machine and the Caller IQ feature will be automatically turned on. The CALLER IQ indicator will stay 
    on. No special dialing or button pressing is necessary to place a long distance call with the Caller IQ 
    feature.
    If you do not wish to use the Caller IQ feature, you can turn it off temporarily.
    Note:
    LBefore subscribing to openLCR service, you cannot change the following settings.
