 The exposure is set, even if the brightness 
of the subject changes.
 Press the [AE LOCK] button when the 
aperture value and shutter speed are 
displayed.
 Press the [AE LOCK] button once more to 
cancel the AE lock.
 Program shift can be set even when AE is 
locked.

with manual exposure, motion picture

Taking Pictures in Auto Mode
The settings for those functions which are 
easy to make mistakes with are fixed at the 
time of purchase allowing pictures to be 
taken with fewer mistakes.

In auto mode the following items are fixed 
at the time of purchase to prevent mistakes 
being made when using the camera. Select [AF] or [AF MACRO] with the focus

∫The Backlight Compensation
Backlight is a situation where light comes 
from the back of subjects. The subjects 
such as people become dark when pictures 
are recorded in backlight. If you press 3, 
[ ] (compensating backlight ON 
indication) appears and the backlight 
compensation function is activated. This 
function compensates the backlight by 
brightening the whole of the picture.
 If you press 3 while [ ] is displayed, 
[ ] disappears and the backlight...

Checking the Recorded Picture (Review)
1Press 4 [REV].
 The last recorded picture appears for 
about 10 seconds.
 Press the shutter button halfway or 
press 4 [REV] again to cancel the 
review.
 You can check other pictures by 
pressing 2/1.
 When the recorded pictures are too 
bright or dim, compensate the

Taking Close-up Pictures [AF MACRO]
This mode allows you to take close-up 
pictures of the subject, e.g. When taking 
pictures of flowers.
You can take pictures approaching the 
subject at a distance up to 5 cm (0.16 feet) 
from the lens by rotating the zoom ring 
upmost to Wide (1k).

[AF MACRO].

Taking Pictures with Manual Focus
Use this function when you want to fix the 
focus or when the distance between the 
lens and the subject is determined and you 
do not want to activate the auto focus.
1Select [MF ASSIST] from the 
[SETUP] menu and set it to [MF1] 
or [MF2].
 Close the menu by pressing the shutter 
button halfway or the [MENU] button 
after finishing the setting.

∫MF ASSIST
When you rotate the focus ring while 
setting [MF ASSIST] to [MF1] or [MF2], the 
MF assistance is activated and the screen 
is enlarged. It allows you to focus on the 
subject more easily.
 [MF1]:  The center of the screen is 
enlarged. You can adjust the focus 
while determining composition of 
the whole of the screen.
 [MF2]:  The whole of the screen is 
enlarged. It is convenient for 
adjusting the focus in Wide.
 [OFF]:  The screen is not enlarged....

∫Prefocus
This is a technique to focus on the point to 
take pictures in advance when it is difficult 
to focus on the subject with auto focus due 
to its quick motion. [e.g. [PANNING] (P80)

Taking Pictures using the Built-in Flash
When you set the flash, you can take 
pictures using the built-in flash according to 
the recording condition.
ATo open the flash
Slide the [ OPEN] lever.
BTo close the flash
Press the flash until it clicks.
 Be sure to close the flash when not in use.
 The flash setting is fixed to Forced OFF 
[ ] while the flash is closed.
