    Recording
    Using the [Rec] Menu
    For details on [Rec] menu settings, refer to P42.
    Applicable modes: 
    Set the number of pixels. The higher the nu mbers of pixels, the finer the detail of the 
    pictures will appear even when they  are printed onto large sheets.
    ¢This item cannot be set in the Intelligent Auto Mode.
    Note
    •In specific modes, Extended Optical Zoom cannot be used, and the picture size for [ ] is not 
    displayed. For details regarding modes in which Extended Optical Zoom cannot be used, refer 
    to  P56 .
    •Pictures may appear mosaic depending on the subject and the recording conditions.

    Applicable modes: 
    This allows the Sensitivity to light (ISO sensitivity) to be set. Setting to a higher figure 
    enables pictures to be taken even in dark places without the resulting pictures coming out 
    dark.
    ∫ About [ ] (Intelligent ISO sensitivity control)
    The camera 
    detects movement of the subject and then automatically sets the optimum ISO 
    sensitivity and shutter speed to suit the movement of the subject and brightness of the 
    scene to minimize the jitter of the subject.
    •
    The shutter speed is not fixed when the shutter button is pressed halfway. It is continuously 
    changing to match the movement of the subject until the shutter button is pressed fully.

    •For the focus range of flash when [ ] is set, refer to  P60.•The ISO sensitivity is automatically set under the following conditions.–When recording motion pictures–When [Burst] in the [Rec] menu is set to [ ] or [ ]

    Applicable modes: 
    In sunlight, under incandescent lights or in other such conditions where the color of white 
    takes on a reddish or bluish tinge, this item adjusts to the color of white which is closest to 
    what is seen by the eye in ac cordance with the light source.
    Note
    •
    Under fluorescent lighting, LED lighting fixture etc., the appropriate White Balance will vary 
    depending on the lighting type, so use [AWB] or [ Ó].
    •The White Balance setting is memorized even if the camera is turned off. (However, the White 
    Balance setting for a Scene Mode returns to [AWB] when the Scene Mode is changed.)
    •White Balance is fixed to [AWB] in following conditions.–[Scenery]/[Night Portrait]/[Night Scenery]/[Food]/[Sunset] in Scene Mode

    ∫Auto White Balance
    Depending on the conditions prevailing when pictures  are taken, the pictures may take on 
    a reddish or bluish tinge. Furthermore, when a multiple number of light sources are being 
    used or there is nothing with a color close to white, Auto White Balance may not function 
    properly. In this case, set the White Balance to a mode other than [AWB].
    1 Auto White Balance will work within this range
    2 Blue sky
    3 Cloudy sky (Rain)

    8 Sunrise and sunset

    Set the White Balance value. Use to match the condition when taking photographs.
    1Select [ Ó] and then press [MENU/SET].2Aim the camera at a sheet of white paper etc. so that the 
    frame in the center is filled by the white object only and then 
    press [MENU/SET].
    •
    White Balance may not be set when the subject is too bright or too 
    dark. Set the White Balance again after adjusting to appropriate 
    brightness.
    •Exit the menu after it is set.

    This allows the focusing method that suits the positions and number of the subjects to be 
    selected.
    ¢[Ø] will be used during motion picture recording.

    •The focus setting is fixed to [ Ø] in Miniature Effect Mode.•It will be fixed to [ š] when the [Face Recog.] is set to [ON].•It is not possible to set [ š] in the following cases.–[Underwater]–In [Panorama Shot], [Night Scenery] and [Food] in Scene Mode•It is not possible to set [ ] in the following cases.–In [Panorama Shot] in Scene Mode–In [B&W] or [SEPIA] in [Color Mode]

    The camera automatically detects the person’s face. (max.

    on following the subject even if it moves. (Dynamic tracking)

    Up to 23 points for each AF area can be focused. This is 
    effective when the subject is not in the center of the screen.

    ∫About [ š] ([Face Detection])
    The following AF area frames are displayed when the camera detects the 
    faces.
    Yellow:
    When the shutter button is pressed halfway, the frame turns green when 
    the camera is focused.
    White:
    Displayed when more than one face is detected. Other faces that are the same distance 
    away as the faces within the yellow AF areas are also brought into focus.
    Note
    •
    Under certain picture-taking conditions including the following cases, the face detection 
    function may fail to work, making it impossible to detect faces. [AF Mode] is switched to [ ] 
    ([ Ø ] while motion pictures are taken).
    –When the face is not facing the camera–When the face is at an angle–When the face is extremely bright or dark–When there is little contrast on the faces–When the facial features are hidden behind sunglasses, etc.–When the face appears small on the screen–When there is rapid movement–When the subject is not a human being–When the camera is shaking–When Digital Zoom is used–Taking pictures underwater•If the camera is registering something other than someone’s face, change the settings to 
    something other than [š].

    ∫Setting up [ ] ([AF Tracking])
    Align the subject with the AF tracking frame, and then press  4 
    to lock onto the subject.
    A AF tracking frame•AF area will be displayed in yellow when a subject is recognized, and 
    focus will automatically adjust continuously followi ng the subject’s 
    movement (Dynamic tracking).
    •AF tracking is canceled when  4 is pressed again.
    Note
    •Dynamic tracking function may not work in the following cases:–When the subject is too small–When the recording location is too dark or bright–When the subject is moving too fast–When the background has the same or similar color to the subject–When jitter is occurring–When using the zoom–Taking picture underwater•When the lock fails, the AF tracking frame will turn red and then disappear. Press 4 again.•The camera records pictures with [AF Mode] as [ Ø] when locked or Dynamic Tracking is not 
    working.

    Applicable modes: 
    Contrast and exposure will be adjusted automatically when there is a big difference in 
    brightness between the background and subject, to bring the image close to real life.
    Settings: [ON]/[OFF]
    Note
    •
    [ ] in the screen turns yellow when [i.Exposure] is in effect.•Even when the [Sensitivity] is set to [100], [Sensitivity] may be set higher than [100] if the 
    picture is taken with [i.Exposure].
    •Compensation effect may not be achieved depending on the conditions.
    Applicable modes: 
    Pictures with sharp profile and resolution can be taken by using the Intelligent Resolution 
    Technology.

    •You can take pictures until the capacity of the built-in memory or the card 
    is full.
    •The burst speed becomes slower halfway.  The exact timing of this 
    depends on the type of card and the Picture Size.
    •The focus is fixed when the first picture is taken.•The exposure and White Balance are adjusted each time you take a 
    picture.
    •The Burst speed (pictures/second) may become slower depending on 
    the recording environment, such as in dark places, if the ISO sensitivity is 
    high etc.

    •Burst Mode is not canceled when the camera is turned off.•If you take pictures in Burst Mode with the built-in memory, it will take time to write the picture 
    data.
    •The setting is fixed to [OFF] in [Panorama Shot] in Scene Mode.•Number of recordable pictures will be fixed to 3 pi ctures when the self-timer is used (except for 
    []).
    •The flash setting is fixed to [ Œ] (except for [ ]).

    •The number of Burst recording pictures may increase when you use a 
    card with fast writing speed or card is formatted.
    •The focus, zoom, exposure, White Balance, shutter speed and ISO 
    sensitivity are fixed to the settings for the first picture.
    •The ISO sensitivity is automatically adjusted. However, the ISO 
    sensitivity is increased to make the shutter speed become high-speed.
    •Depending on the operating conditions, it may take time to take the next 
    picture if you repeat taking a picture.
