- 31 - Basic Tips for taking good pictures Hold the camera gently with both hands, keep your arms still at your side and stand with your feet slightly apart. •Do not cover the flash or the AF assist lamp A with your fingers or other objects. •Be careful not to move the camera when you press the shutter button. •When taking pictures, make sure your footing is stable and there is no danger of colliding with another person, an object etc. •Using the Optional Live Viewfinder, you can adju st the viewfinder angle when recording with a low camera angle. This feature is convenient for recording low-lying subjects such as flowers, etc. (P196) This function detects the vertical orientati on when you record with the camera vertically orientated. When you play back the recording, the recording is automatically displayed in vertical orientation. (Only available when [ROTATE DISP.] (P172) is set to [ON].) • When recording with this unit, Direction Detection can be performed even if you are using a lens that is not compatible with the Direction Detection Function. •When the camera is held vertically and tilted si gnificantly up or down to record, the Direction Detection Function may not work correctly. •Motion pictures taken with the camera held vertically are not displayed vertically.•You cannot record 3D pictures in vertical orientation. Basic - 32 - Applicable modes: Taking a Still picture Press [AF/MF]. Touch the Focus Mode to select. •You can also select a Focus Mode by continuously pressing [AF/MF]. When you press the shutter button halfway, the camera is set to the selected Focus Mode. This is convenient when, for example, you are using the Optional Live Viewfinder. - 33 - Basic •Select the Focus Mode according to the movement of the subject and the scene you are recording. •When recording using [AFF], [AFC]–It may take time to focus on the subject when operate the zoom from Wide to Tele or suddenly change the subject from a distant one to a nearby one. –Press the shutter button halfway again when it is difficult to focus on the subject.–While the shutter button pressed halfway, shake may be seen on the screen.•Depending on the lens used, [AFF] and [AFC] may not operate. Refer to the website on P13. AFS Subject is still (Scenery, anniversary photograph, etc.) “AFS” is an abbreviation of “Auto Focus Single”. Focus is set automatically when the shutter button is pressed halfway. Focus will be fixed while it is pressed halfway. AFF Movement cannot be predicted (Children, pets, etc.)“AFF” is an abbreviation of “Auto Focus Flexible”. In this mode, focusing is performed automatically when the shutter button is pressed halfway. If the subject moves while the shutter button is pressed halfway, the focus is corrected to match the movement automatically. AFC Subject is moving (Sport, trains, etc.)“AFC” is an abbreviation of “Auto Focus Continuous”. Basic - 36 - Just by touching the subject to focus, it will focus on the subject and take the picture automatically. 1Touch [ ]. 2Touch [ ]. • Icon will change to [ ], and taking a picture with the Touch Shutter function becomes possible. 3Touch the subject you wish to focus on, and then take a picture. • AF area with same function as [Ø] in AF mode is displayed at the position you touch, and picture is taken when it is focused when the AF mode is set to [ š], [ ], [ ], or [ Ø]. •The position you touched is enlarged and picture is taken when it is focused when the AF mode is set to [ ]. (Cannot be set at the edge of the screen) •If the histogram is displayed on top of the subject you want to touch, touch the subject after first moving the histogram by dragging it (P11). 4Touch [ ] to cancel the Touch Shutter function. Note • If [FOCUS PRIORITY] is [ON], when the Focus Mode is set to [AFS] and the Touch Shutter fails, if the AF area briefly turns red and disappears, this signifies that the picture cannot be taken under the current conditions. When set to [AFF] or [AFC], the picture will not be taken if the focus indication is flashing green, but if the subject comes into focus while you are touching the screen, the picture will be taken. •Measurement of brightness is performed on t he spot touched when the [METERING MODE] (P140) is set to [ Ù]. Basic - 38 - ∫About the tilt sensor display With the tilt sensor displayed, it is easy to correct the tilt of the camera etc. 1Press [DISP.] several times to display the tilt sensor.2Check the tilt of the camera. - 39 - Basic Taking Pictures using the Automatic Function (Intelligent Auto Mode) In this mode, the camera makes the optimal settings for the subject and scene, so we recommend it when you wish to leave the settings to the camera and record without thinking about them. Press [¦]. •The camera will switch to either the most recently used of Intelligent Auto Mode or Intelligent Auto Plus Mode.
