    This allows you to take vivid pictures of the nightscape.
    ∫Technique for Night Scenery Mode
    •
    We recommend using a tripod and the Self-timer for taking pictures.
    Note
    •The shutter may remain closed after taking the picture. This is due to signal processing and is 
    not a malfunction.
    •Noise may become visible when you take pictures in dark places.
    Illuminations are photographed beautifully.

    •
    We recommend using a tripod and the self-timer.

    This takes pictures of a baby with a healthy complexion. When you use the flash, the light 
    from it is weaker than usual.
    It is possible to set different birthdays and names for [BABY1] and [BABY2]. You can 
    select to have these appear at the time of playback, or have them stamped on the 
    recorded image using [TEXT STAMP]  (P166).
    ∫ Birthday/Name setting
    1Press  3/4  to select [AGE] or [NAME] and then press  
    [MENU/SET].
    2Press  3/4  to select [SET] and then press [MENU/SET].3Enter the birthday or name.
    •
    When the birthday or name is set, [AGE] or [NAME] is automatically set to [ON].•If [ON] is selected when the birthday or name has not been registered, the setting screen 
    appears automatically.
    4Press  3/4  to select [EXIT] and then press [MENU/SET] to finish.
    ∫ To cancel [AGE] and [NAME]
    Select the [OFF] setting in step 
    2.
    Note
    •
    Still pictures recorded during motion picture recording ([ ] (Motion picture priorities)) 
    (P50)  will not record age or name.
    •The age and name can be printed out using the “PHOTOfunSTUDIO” bundled software on the 
    CD-ROM (supplied).
    •If [AGE] or [NAME] is set to [OFF] even when the birthday or name has been set, the age or 
    name will not be displayed.
    [BABY1]/[BABY2]
    Birthday: 2/1: Select the items (year/month/day).
    3 /4: Setting.
    [MENU/SET]: Set.
    Name: For details on how to enter characters, refer to  “Entering Text” on  P135.

    Select this when you want to take pictures of a pet such as a dog or a cat.
    You can set your pet’s birthday and name.
    For information about [AGE] or [NAME], refer to [BABY1]/[BABY2] on P122.
    Select this when you want to take pictures at a wedding reception, an indoor party etc. 
    This allows you to take pictures of people and the background with near real-life 
    brightness.
    ∫ Technique for Party Mode
    •
    Open the flash. (You can set to [ ] or [ ].)•We recommend using a tripod and the self-timer for taking pictures.
    Select this when you want to take pictures of a sunset view. This allows you to take vivid 
    pictures of the red color of the sun.

    Taking Pictures with different image effects
    (Creative Control Mode)
    You can add effects to the image as you record. You can set the effects you are adding as 
    checking the recording screen.
    Set the mode dial to  [ ].
    Press 3/4/2/ 1 to select the Creative Control 
    Mode.
    Press [MENU/SET] to set.
    Note
    •To change the Creative Control Mode, press [MENU/SET] and select 
    again with [ ] in the selected state.
    •Defocus control can be set by touching [ ] in the recording screen.

    •Creative Control settings are memorized even if the camera is turned 
    off.
    •ISO sensitivity will be fixed to [AUT O], and White Balance will be fixed 
    to [AWB].
    ItemEffect
    [EXPRESSIVE] This is a pop art style image effect that emphasizes the color.
    [RETRO] This is a soft image effect that gives the appearance of a tarnished 
    photograph.
    [HIGH KEY] This effect brightens the image as a whole and creates a soft and 
    light ambience.
    [LOW KEY] This effect creates a dark and peaceful atmosphere in the image as 
    a whole, making bright areas stand out.
    [SEPIA] A sepia color image effect.
    [HIGH DYNAMIC] From dark areas to light areas, this effect creates a well-balanced 
    light across the entire image.
    [TOY EFFECT] This effect produces vignetting, making it look like the image was 
    taken with a toy camera.
    [MINIATURE EFFECT] This is an imaging effect which defocuses the surroundings to make 
    it look like a diorama.

    The strength and colors of the effects can be easily adjusted to fit your preferences.
    1Press 1 to display the setting screen.
    2Touch the slide bar to set.
    •Setting can also be performed by rotating the rear dial.•The items that can be set differ depending on which Creative 
    Control Mode is currently set.
    •Pressing the 1 again returns to the recording screen.
    •When making the effect setting, [ ] is displayed on the screen.•If you cannot change the settings, select the center (standard).

    It is also possible to record a picture by touching [ ].
    Adjust the effect to fit your preferences.

    With [MINIATURE EFFECT] you can make the subject stand out by intentionally creating 
    defocused and in-focus portions. You can set the recording orientation (defocus 
    orientation) and the position and size of the in-focus portion.
    1Select [MINIATURE EFFECT] using Step 2 on  P124  and then press [MENU/SET].2Touch the screen to display the setting screen.
    •You can also display the setting screen by pressing [Fn1].
    Note
    •When recording using [MINIATURE EFFECT]–Display of the recording screen will be delayed more than usual and the screen will look as if 
    frames are being dropped.
    –No sound is recorded in motion pictures.–Approximately 1/10 of the time period is recorded. (If you record for 10 minutes, the resulting 
    motion picture recording will be approximately 1 minute long.) The displayed available recording time is approximately 10 times. When switching to 
    Recording Mode, please check the available recording time.
    •When the Focus Mode is set to [MF], move the focused location to the in-focus portion.
    Set the type of blurring for [MINIATURE EFFECT]

    dial.
    •If you touch [RESET], settings for the non-blurred portions 
    are restored to the initial settings.

    Taking Pictures in Custom Set
    It is possible to register up to 4 sets of current camera settings as custom sets.
    •Initial setting of the Program AE Mode is registered as the custom settings initially.

    To allow recording using the same settings, up to 4 sets of current camera settings can be 
    registered using [CUST. SET MEM.].
    1Select [CUST. SET MEM.] in the [CUSTOM] menu. (P62)
    2Press 3/4  to select the custom set ( , etc.) to register and then press [MENU/
    SET].
    •
    Confirmation screen is displayed. It is executed when [YES] is selected. 
    Exit the menu after it is executed.
    Registering Personal Menu Settings (Registering custom settings)
    Preparations: Set in advance the Recording Mode you wish to save and select the  desired menu settings on the camera.
    Custom setDescription of settings
    The settings are registered for   on 
    the mode dial.

    You can record using by simply rotating 
    the mode dial to the corresponding 
    position. If you register the custom 
    settings you use often, it is then 
    convenient to use them.
    The settings are registered for   on

     You can easily call up the settings you have registered using [CUST. SET MEM.].
    Set the mode dial to [ ].
    •The custom set registered for [ ] is called up.

    The custom set registered for [ ], [ ] or [ ] is called 
    up. The most recently used custom set is called up.
    •To change a custom set> To steps 2, 3 and 4.
    2Press [MENU/SET], select [ ] using 3/ 4/2/1 and 
    press  1.
    3Press  2/1  to select the custom settings.
    4Press [MENU/SET] to set.
    A Display custom settings•Saving of the selected custom settings is displayed on the screen.
    ∫When changing the menu settings
    Registered contents do not change when the menu setting is changed temporarily with the 
    mode dial set to   or  . To change the regi stered settings, overwrite the registered 
    content using [CUST. SET MEM.] on the custom settings menu.

    other Recording modes.

    Applicable modes: 
    RecordingTaking a Picture with Face Recognition Function
    Face Recognition is a function which finds a face resembling a registered face and 
    prioritizes focus and exposure automatically.  Even if the person is located towards the 
    back or on the end of a line in a group photo, the camera can still take a clear picture.
    •
    The following functions will also work with the Face Recognition 
    function.
    In Recording Mode
    –Display of corresponding name when camera detects a registered 
    face¢ (if name has been set for the registered face)–The camera will remember the face that has been photographed 
    many times and display the registration screen automatically 
    (if [AUTO REGISTRATION] is set to [ON])
    In Playback Mode
    –Display of name and age (if information has been registered)–Selective playback of pictures chosen from pictures registered with Face Recognition 
    ([CATEGORY PLAY]  (P164))
    ¢ Names of up to 3 people are displayed. Precedence for the names displayed when taking 
    pictures is determined according to the order of registration.
    Note
    •[FACE RECOG.] only works when the AF Mode is set to [ š].•During the Burst Mode, [FACE RECOG.] picture information can be attached to only the first 
    picture.
    •You cannot use [FACE RECOG.] in the following cases.–[PERIPHERAL DEFOCUS]/[FOOD]/[NIGHT SCENERY]/[ILLUMINATIONS] in Scene Mode–[MINIATURE EFFECT] in Creative Control Mode–When recording motion pictures•When the Focus Mode is set to [MF], automatic registration is not available.•Similarity in facial features can result in one person being recognized as another.•Face Recognition may take more time to select and recognize distinctive facial features than 
    regular Face Detection.
    •Even when face recognition information has been  registered, pictures taken with [NAME] set to 
    [OFF] will not be categorized by face recognition in [CATEGORY PLAY].
    •Even when Face Recognition information is changed (P133) , Face Recognition 
    information for the pictures already taken will not be changed.
    For instance, if the name is changed, pictures recorded before the change will not be 
    categorized by face recognition in [CATEGORY PLAY].
    •To change the name information of the pictures taken, perform the [REPLACE] in 
    [FACE REC EDIT]  (P177).
    [FACE RECOG.] is initially set to [OFF] on the camera.
    [FACE RECOG.] will turn [ON] automatically when the face image is registered.
