39 To use the system, the application program on the CD- ROM supplied with the software package must be installed on the hard disk. This requires a keyboard, mouse, and personal computer monitor. nSetting Up the Virtual Memory This procedure sets up the virtual memory to operate the application program. DVEdit Setting Drive C: Initial Size 300MB Maximum Size 400MB Do not expand the virtual memory in a wrong drive. Otherwise it is not assured that the DVEdit works properly. 1. 41 nInstall an Application Program 1. Connect the keyboard, mouse, and personal com- puter monitor to the personal computer, and turn on the power switches on the peripheral equipment and then on the personal computer. Windows NT starts up. 2. Insert the CD-ROM supplied with the software pack- age into the CD-ROM drive. 3. Click . Click Run on the start menu. The Run window now opens. 4. Input CD-ROM drive name:\dvedit\disk1\setup.exe in Open: and click . If, for instance, the CD- ROM drive is drive d:, input the series of character as shown above. To check the letter assigned as the CD-ROM drive, click My Computer. The CD-ROM drive letter will appear on the screen. 5. The Welcome window appears. Click . 6. The User Information window appears. Name:. . . . . Enter your name. Company:. . Enter your companys name. Serial:. . . . . Enter the product ID number printed on the label affixed to the case of the CD-ROM. Input all eight letters and all eight digits (and do not omit the -). When all items have been entered, click . Next Next OK Start 7. The Choose Destination Location window appears. Click . 8. The TARGA Product Information window appears. Select the type of video compression board to use, and click . For analog type, select TARGA DV2000. For SDI type, select TARGA DV2000 SDX. For SDI Voyager 2, select TARGA DV2000 SDX V2. (When the type is selected, is displayed.) Refer to Appendix (The type of the SDI board) about the type of the board. 9. The A/V Hard Disk Information window appears. Enter the number of hard disk drives for video use. To select two hard disk drives for video use, enter 2 at the Drives: prompt. To select four hard disk drives for video use, enter 4 at the Drives: prompt. After entering the number of drives, click . Note:Here, two or four hard disks can be set for video use. To use more hard disks, start up the application after setting it up, and use a utility. 10. The A/V Hard Disk Information window is still dis- played. Enter the name of the hard disk drives for video use. To select two hard disk drives for video use: Enter O: at the Drive 1: prompt, and click . Enter P: at the Drive 2: prompt, and click . To select four hard disk drives for video use: Enter O: at the Drive 1: prompt, and click . Enter P: at the Drive 2: prompt, and click . Enter Q: at the Drive 3: prompt, and click . Enter R: at the Drive 4: prompt, and click . 11. The A/V Hard Disk Information window is still dis- played. Enter the name and directory of the hard disk drives for audio use. The default is g for the drive name, and audiopools for the directory. Just modify the drive name. For example, to select drive d for the hard disk drive for audio use, enter d:\audiopools. The DVEdit JOGPAD board Information window appears. Set the I/O address of the JOG board to be used. Select the value of the jumper setting of the JOG board, and click . (When the value is selected, is displayed.) (The default is 230H) 14. The DVEdit JOGPAD board Information window is still displayed. Set the IRQ No. of the JOG board to be used. Double-click the font (English font) or fontjp (Japanese font) direc- tory in Folders. 5. Click or the name of the font to be installed. Then click . The contents of the CD-ROM will be installed in Windows NT. 6. Activate an application, and double-click Special in the Tool Box. The Setup panel appears. 7. Double-click Font Setup in the Setup panel. Select the required font from List of Windows Fonts and click . The font will be installed in the application.Append OK Select All
43 This manual describes the procedures for upgrading DVEdit to the newest software. Observe the following procedures to correctly replace the existing software. After replacing the Targa driver, be sure to replace, or write over, the existing software. Otherwise, normal operation cannot be expected. nPrecautions for Version-up lTarga Driver The new Targa driver cannot be written over the old driver to upgrade the version. First, remove the old driver from DVEdit by uninstalling, then install the new Targa driver to upgrade the version. After replacing the Targa driver, be sure to reinstall (or overwrite) DVEdit. lDVEdit Software In upgrading the DVEdit software version, the new software can be written over the old software. Different from the Targa driver, it is not necessary to uninstall the old software. Overwrite permits use of the existing A/V data as it is even after upgrading the version. If the new software is installed after uninstalling the existing software, all the data will be erased for a new setup. lPrecautions The following two cases can be considered in installing the new software in DVEdit. Carefully replace the existing software by observing the version-up procedures for each of the three cases described in the following section. 1. Erasing data from DVEdit already in use 2. Not erasing data from DVEdit already in use nUpdating Procedures lErasing Data from DVEdit Already in Use 1. Virtual Memory Expansion Observe the manual Setting up the Virtual Memory to properly expand the virtual memory. 2. Confirming the Version Installed (a) Confirming the version of the Targa driver in use Confirm the version of the Targa driver installed in DVEdit at present. This can be confirmed on the DVR Information panel. Click Start, Program, TARGA DV2000 and DVRInfo to call this panel on the screen. Watch the Software tag, referring to the figures below. 44 (b) DVEdit software version The DVEdit version panel appears when the About menu on the Special panel is clicked. 3. Confirming the CD-ROM Version The version of the newest software written on the CD- ROM is written in d:¥version.txt in the CD-ROM drive. (The case where the CD-ROM drive is d:¥ is described below.) Compare the version of the Targa driver and that of the DVEdit software. If they are the same, neither needs to be replaced. If the Targa driver version is the same, skip items 3 and 4 and proceed to items 5 and 6. Description of Targa driver replacement: Items 4 and 5 Description of software replacement: Items 6 and 74. Uninstalling the Old Targa Driver (a) Select Program, Targa DV2000 and uninstall Targa DV2000 ... from Start. This starts uninstalling the Targa driver. (b) Click under the dialog shown. (c) The following panel appears and click the button when uninstall is completed. OK Yes
45 (d) If the following message appears during uninstall, click . ( e ) Check disk scheduling Enter chkdsk /f c: on the command prompt panel. After that, You will be asked Checkdisk scheduling(Y/N)? So enter y on the command prompt panel. This executes the check-disk in restarting. ( f ) Restart. (The check- disk automatically runs at restart.) Select Shutdown from Start. Add a check mark to Restart Computer and click . (g ) Directory delete If c:¥TARGA2KDV and subsequent directories remain in Explorer after restart, delete all together with the directories. Yes No to All 5. Installing the New Targa Driver ( a ) Installing the Targa driver Insert a CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. (The case where the CD-ROM drive is d:¥ is described below.) Move the cursor to the Run command in the Start menu and click the command. The Run window will be displayed. Type the command, d:¥Targa¥disk1¥setup.exe in the Open field of the Run window and click the button. This starts the Targa installer, so start installing as instructed on the panel. The subsequent operations are the same as installing a Targa driver for the first time. Start installing according to the instructions on the panel shown. After install is completed, the panel asks whether or not to restart, so restart as shown on the panel. (b) After restart, double-click the icon Display on the control panel. (c) Select Settings from Display Properties and click . Display Type OK
46 ( d ) Click in Display Type. ( e ) Click in Display Modification. ( f ) The directory of the display driver is to be opened, so enter C:¥TARGA2KDV¥WINNT¥Display and click . ( g ) Confirm that Truevision DVR Display is displayed on the screen and click . ( h ) The message The drivers were successfully installed appears. Click . ( i ) Click in Display Types ( j ) Click in Screen Properties ( k ) The message You must restart your computer 888 appears. Click . ( l ) Windows NT starts up. When the Control Panel opens, close it. When the message A new graphics driver has been installed appears, click . ( m ) Click and drag the mark on the frame of the desktop area in Screen Properties to adjust it for the resolution of 1152 x 870 pixels. Here, confirm that the font size is small and that the Refresh Frequency is 75 Hz. ( n ) Click , and click to enter test mode. The test screen appears. ( o ) If the test screen is displayed correctly, click . ( p ) Click in Display Properties to close this screen. The resolution will change. ( c ) Directory Delete If c:¥DVEdit and subsequent directories remain in Explorer after restart, delete all the files together with the directories. If e:¥audio, e:¥Title and subsequent directories remain, similarly delete all the files together with the directories. (The audio-storing drive characters may be different and there may be two or more audio/title storing drives depending on the case. In such a case, delete the above for all the drives.) 7. Installing new DVEdit Insert a CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. (The case where the CD-ROM drive is d:¥ is described below.) Move the cursor to the Run command in the Start menu and click the command. The Run window will be displayed. Type the command, d:¥dvedit¥disk1¥setup.exe in the Open field of the Run window and click the button. This starts the DVEdit installer, so start installing as instructed on the panel. The subsequent operations are the same as installing DVEdit for the first time.
