Installation surface A concrete floor is the most suitable installation surface, being far less prone to vibration during the spin cycle than wooden floorboards or a carpeted surface. Please note the following points: ^The machine must be level and securely positioned. ^To avoid vibrations during spinning, the machine should not be installed on soft floor coverings. If installing on a wooden joist floor: ^We recommend a plywood base (at least 59x52x3 cm) The base should span several joists and be bolted to the joists and not only to the floorboards. Check for the presence of pipes and cables first. If possible, install the machine in a corner, as this is usually the most stable part of the floor. ,If the machine is installed on a raised plinth, ithas to be secured against slippage during spinning using retaining clips (available from the Miele Spare Parts Dept). Installing the washer-dryer To manoeuvre the machine out of its packing case to its installlation site, hold it by the edge of the lid where it protrudes to the rear of the machine as well as by the handle recesses at the front. Please note: ^Do not lift the machine by the drum door. ,Ensure that the machine feet and the floor are dry to prevent the machine from slipping during the spin cycle. Removing the transit fittings ^ To remove the left and right covers 1. Use a screwdriver to prise out the cover as illustrated. 2. Pull the cover forwards to remove. Installation and connection 63
^Using the spanner supplied turn the left-hand transit bar 90°, then ^ withdraw the transit bar.^Turn the right-hand transit bar 90°, then ^ withdraw the transit bar. Installation and connection 64
,To avoid the risk of injury the holes for the transit bars must be covered after the transit bars have been removed. ^Fit the covers on to the two holes. Then plug the holes as shown with the caps. ,The machine must not be moved without the transit fittings in place. Store them in a safe place for future use. They must be re-fitted if the machine is to be moved again (e.g. when moving house). Re-fitting the transit bars Re-fitting is carried out byreversing the procedure. Installation and connection 65
Levelling the machine The machine must stand perfectly level on all four feet to ensure safe and proper operation. Incorrect installation may increase electricity and water consumption and may cause the machine to move about. False values may also show in the Load and Detergent display. The four adjustable screw feet are used to level the machine. All four feet are screwed in when the machine is delivered.^Using the spanner supplied turn counter nut2in a clockwise direction. Then turn counter nut2together with foot1to unscrew. ^Use a spirit level to check the machine is standing level. ^Hold foot1securely with a pipe wrench. Turn counter nut2again using the spanner supplied until it sits firmly up against the housing. All four counternuts must sit firmly up against the housing. Please also check this for the feet which did not need adjustment. Otherwise there is the danger of the machine moving about. Installation and connection 66
Building under a continous worktop / in a kitchen run ,Abuilding-under kit(available to order) with a cover plate to replace the machine lid is required. It must be fitted by suitably qualified person to ensure electrical safety. N.B. If you wish to push your machine under a worktop and there is space to do thiswithout removing the lidthe building under kit is not necessary. Otherwise the building under kit is essential. The building-under kit is supplied with its own installation instructions. – Slides are also available to order for fitting underneath the machine feet to protect the floor from damage when the machine is pushed into position or taken out for servicing. – Connections for electricity, water and drainage should be installed in such a way that they remain accessible when the machine is in place. N= Niche height (820-930 mm) (illustration shows machine with lid removed) Niche height Action 820 mm None required from 830 - 840 mmFit longer screw feet* (Set to approx. 40 mm) from 870 - 885 mmUse one raising kit* from 915 - 930 mmUse two raising kits* * accessory available to order If the kitchen run has a continuous furniture plinth in place, a gap must be made for the washing machine. Replacing the lid If the lid has been removed in order to fit a coverplate, ensure that, if the lid is ever replaced, it fits securely into the rear holders. Otherwise, it is not properly secure for transport. Installation and connection 67
Fitting a decor panel The door has a decor frame for fitting a decor panel (available as an optional accessory). Decor panel dimensions Width..............590mm(-1mm) Height.............590mm(-1mm) Thickness...............0.6-4mm ^Open the door. ^Unscrew the 4 screws on the upper decor strip (see illustration). ^ Then take the upper decor strip off by pulling itforwards. ^ Loosen but do not unscrew completely, the screws on the three remaining decor strips.^Move the decor strips forwards. A decor panel up to 4 mm thick can now be inserted. ^Slide the decor panel in from above. ^Press the decor strips into position and tighten up the loosened screws. Now push on the upper decor strip from thefrontand secure this with the 4 screws. Installation and connection 68
Shortening the door panel You can shorten the door panel to match the height of adjacent kitchen unit door fronts. First of all you need to calculate measurementX. This is the distance from the lower edge of the machine door to the lower edge of an adjacent kitchen unit door front.Procedure ^Open the door. ^First remove the door panel: – to do this unscrew the 10 screws (see arrows) from the inside machine door. ^Then remove the three decor strips from the door panel: – to do this unscrew the screws. ^Shorten the door panel and the two side decor strips at the bottom by measurementXusing a suitable saw. ^ Drill four holes for securing the lower decor strip into the door panel. ^ Fit the decor strips and the door panel. If you are intending to fit a decor panel, check whether this will also need to be shortened Installation and connection 69
Fitting a plinth facing The gap between the lower edge of the machine plinth and the floor can be closed up using a suitable kitchen furniture plinth facing. The washing machine plinth has a special groove in which a plinth facing can be fitted. Plinth facing dimensions Length : 592 - 596 mm Thickness :8mm Height ( H): The plinth facing height must be calculated after aligning the height of the machine with the screw feet or after fitting the height-adjustment frame(s).Installation ^Calculate height (H) from the floor up into the groove (on the underside of the washing machine). ^Cut the plinth facing to size. ^Slide it into the groove. Useful tip: If the machine is fitted on a height-adjustment frame, you can use double-sided adhesive tape on the back of the plinth facing to secure it to the height-adjustment frame too.
