To avoid a build-up of condensation and resultant damage, refrigerators and freezers should not normally be installed side-by-side. However, this appliance has side wall heating, and can be installed side-by-side with certain other Miele appliances. Your dealer will be able to advise you on which models are suitable. Installation ^This appliance must be installed to the left of any refrigerator when viewed from the front. The side wall heating in the right-hand wall is designed to prevent the build-up of condensation between the two appliances. ^Place the two appliances as close as possible to their final position so that they can be aligned for any unevenness in the floor. The backs of the appliances still need to be kept accessible to complete the installation. Joining the two appliances together You will need a spirit level, spanners, a torque screwdriver and a socket wrench. ^Before starting, peel off any protective foil from the appliance casing. ^Place the appliances next to one another so that the fronts are aligned, leaving a gap of 10 mm between them. ^ Align both appliances using a spirit level. – Align front feetausing a spanner b. – Align the back feet using adjusting devicecand socket wrenchd. Turn the adjusting device clockwise to raise the appliance up at the back. Installing in a side-by-side combination 61
^Close the doors to check whether the door handles are correctly aligned with one another. The top of both appliances must be the same height. If they are not, the covers will not fit properly. ^Push the two appliances together, and align them again. ^Remove covers from both appliances. ^Screw lower bracketesecurely into position using screwsf. Do not move the appliances until all the brackets are securely fitted.^Remove coversgfrom both appliances. ^Loosely screw large brackethinto position on the front at the top using long screwsi. Make pilot holes for the screws if necessary or use a battery powered screwdriver. ^Push the two appliances together, and align them again. ^ Now tighten screwsi. ^Position wide bracketsjat the top and bottom on the back, and push the top bracket upwards until it is in the correct position (z). ^Secure the brackets at the sides using hex screwsksupplied.Do notdrill holes for these screws in the appliance. To avoid vibrations, neither the brackets nor the screws should touch the pipework on the backs of the appliances. ^Connect both appliances to the electricity supply as described under Electrical connection. ^ Carefully push the two appliances back into their final position. It is easier if you raise the appliances at the front, and roll them back on their rear rollers. The height of the appliances can be aligned again if necessary.^Position the long stainless steel trim lin the gap, making sure that it is located above brackete. Pressing both ridges along the trim together as you do so makes it easier to fit the trim into the gap. ^Carefully work the stainless steel trim into the gap. Use a soft cloth to do this to avoid denting the trim. ^Carefully remove the protective foil from the stainless steel trim. Installing in a side-by-side combination 63
^Push short trimminto the gap at the top of the appliances. Make sure that the gap in the trim faces the front. The trim must sit flush with the top of the appliances at the front. ^Fit covernin the space between the control panels. Make sure that the outer edges of the cover are flush with the control panels. The cover can be pulled out to adjust it to the right size. The gap in the cover must face downwards to fit properly over the long stainless steel trim.^Refit cover.Please align the handles on both doors if necessary. See Changing the door hinging. Stainless steel appliances (height adjustable door) The appliance door can be aligned retrospectively using the outer slots in the lower hinge plate: ^Unscrew threaded pindby one half of a turn using the allen key supplied. ^ Adjust the height of the hinge pin using the spanner supplied. To raise the door: turn clockwise To lower the door: turn anti-clockwise. ^ Tighten the threaded pin. The hinge pin is now fixed in position again. Installing in a side-by-side combination 65
Important Donotchange the door hinging if this appliance is to be installed side-by-side with another appliance. To change the door hinging you will need the following tools: –a cross-slotted screwdriver, –a flat-bladed screwdriver, –a selection of Torx screwdrivers, –a spanner. Two people are needed for changing the door hinging.Removing the door handles ^Pull door handleatowards you. Side sectionbslides back. ^Pull side sectionbfirmly back out of the guides on the mounting plate. ^Undo the 4 screws (Torx 15) in the mounting plate, and remove the handle. ^Remove the cover caps from the opposite side, and fit them into the empty holes. Removing the soft-close mechanism for the upper door ^Open the upper door. ^Remove panelafrom the soft-close mechanism by inserting a flat-bladed screwdriver into the gap from above and easing it off bit by bit. Take care not to damage the door seal. If the door seal is damaged, the door will not close properly and cooling will be impaired.^Slide panelatowards the appliance, and leave it hanging between the door and the appliance. ^Fit restraining clipb(supplied with the appliance) onto soft-close mechanismc. The restraining clip stops the hinge from snapping shut. Do not remove the clip until told to do so. ^ Carefully prise open coverdfrom above and below using a flat-bladed screwdriver. ^ Push hinge pineup and out from underneath using a flat-bladed screwdriver. ^Remove coverd. The soft-close mechanism is now no longer fixed to the appliance. ^Remove panela. ^Slide soft-close mechanism bracket fas far as it will go towards the handle side of the door, and undo screwsgon the soft-close mechanism. ^Using a flat-bladed screwdriver, slide the soft-close door mechanism towards the handle side of the door, and lever it out at the side. ^ Then place it to one side.Removing the upper door ^Gently loosen coverhby carefully inserting a flat-bladed screwdriver into the gap. ^Remove coverhtogether with retaineri. ^Then separate retainerifrom cover h, by pushing it slightly to the left and then pulling the cover forwards and off. ^Rotate retaineriby 180°. ^ Then fit coverhfrom the front over retaineri, and push it over to the right. The writing must be visible. ^ Unscrew hinge partj, rotate by 180° and fit to the opposite side. If necessary drill pilot holes for the screws. ^ Remove coverkby sliding it forwards from the back and then lifting it off. ^ Remove coverlby pulling it upwards. Changing the door hinging 68
Caution. The upper door is not secure as soon as the upper hinge plate is removed. ^Close the upper door. ^Undo screwsmin upper hinge plate nand pull it upwards and off. ^Carefully lift the upper door off and place it to one side. ^Make sure that you leave the hinge pin in the hinge plate in the middle of the appliance, as otherwise the lower door will be unsecured. ^Then fit coverhtogether with retainerion the opposite side. ^Refit coverlon the opposite side. Removing the lower soft-close door mechanism ^Open the lower door. ^ Remove panelafrom the soft-close mechanism by inserting a flat-bladed screwdriver into the gap from above and easing it off bit by bit.Take care not to damage the door seal. If the door seal is damaged, the door will not close properly and cooling will be impaired. ^Slide panelatowards the appliance, and leave it hanging between the door and the appliance. ^Fit restraining clipb(supplied with the appliance) onto soft-close mechanismc.
