This washer disinfector is suitable for cleaning and disinfecting instruments and accessories in medical surgeries and clinics, as well as gynaecology, urology, ENT, anaesthetic and ortho - paedic instruments etc. It is capable of cleaning and thermally disinfecting instruments to general hy - giene requirements using the vario TD (AN) programme and for standards re - quiring the containing of epidemics (§ 18 IfSG) there is the SPECIAL (AN) 93°C/10’ programme as well as the combiCHEM 60°C-5’ and CHEM 60°C-5’ programmes for thermal disin- fection with the addition of a chemical disinfecting agent. The disinfection programme chosen will depend on the area of effectiveness re- quired (bactericidal and/or virucidal) and the thermal stabitily of the instru- ments. Where possible preference should be given to thermal disinfection as this pro- vides a better standard of disinfection. The parameters for thermal disinfection in accordance with EN ISO 15883-1 are 80 °C (+ 5 °C, - 0 °C) with a 10 min. holding time or 90 °C (+ 5 °C, - 0 °C) with a 5 min. holding time for the inacti- vation of HBV. Contaminated instruments can be placed directly in the machine without pre-treatment (no soaking required). In Germany, the parameters for disin - fection of a temperature of 93 °C, with a holding time of 10 minutes, correspond - ing to effective areas A and B, have been adopted into the official list for disinfection of instruments in disinfectors and decontamination units, according to section 3.2.4. § 18 IfSG by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) in Berlin (German Institute for infectious dis - eases and non-communicable ill - nesses). The effective areas are defined as fol - lows: A = suitable for the destruction of vege- tative bacteria, including myco-bacte- ria, fungus and fungal spores. B = suitable for the inactivation of vi- ruses (including HBV and HIV). Chemo thermal disinfection takes place at 60°C with a 5 minute holding time and 1% concentration of disinfecting agent. The standard of disinfection is in accordance with the disinfecting agent manufacturer’s instructions. The machine is programmed to carry out the final rinse with mains water or AD water (aqua destillata) = purified or de-ionised water (VE), H 2O pure, de- mineralised water, aqua purificata or distilled water where the application re- quires this standard. The washer-disinfector is equipped as standard with a steam condenser (DK) and water softener. Description of the machine 4

This machine complies with all rele - vant legal safety requirements. In - correct use can, however, lead to personal injury and damage to prop - erty. Read the operating instructions carefully before starting to use this machine. This way you will avoid the risk of accidents and damage to the machine. Keep these instructions in a safe place for reference, and pass them on to any future user. Correct use This machine is designed for com- mercial use and for specialised ap- plications only, as described in these Operating Instructions. Alterations to the machine or using it for purposes other than those for which it was de- signed might be dangerous and could cause harm. Only clean instruments and utensils (medical) in this machine if the manu- facturer has stated that they are suit- able for machine processing. The in- strument manufacturer’s cleaning and maintenance instructions must also be observed. The manufacturer cannot be held liable for damage caused by improper or in- correct use of the machine. This equipment is not designed for maritime use or for use in mobile installations such as caravans, aircraft etc. However it may be suitable for such usage subject to a risk assess- ment of the installation being carried out by a suitably qualified engineer. This machine should be commis - sioned and then maintained only by a Miele authorised and trained ser - vice technician. Repairs and other work by unqualified persons could be dan - gerous. To ensure compliance with the Medical Devices Directive and with Health and Safety regulations it is ad - visable to take out a Miele Service Con - tract. Please pay attention to the following notes, to maintain safe procedures. Do not install the machine in an area where a danger of explosion or of freezing conditions may be pres- ent. The electrical safety of this ma- chine can only be guaranteed if connected to a correctly installed earthing system on site. It is most im- portant that this basic safety require- ment is met and complies with local and national regulations. It should be checked by an expert if necessary. The manufacturer cannot be held liable for the consequences of an inadequate earthing system (e.g. electric shock). A damaged machine is dangerous. Switch off at the mains immediately and call the Miele Service Department or an authorised and trained Miele Ser- vice Dealer. Warning and Safety instructions 7
Personnel operating the machine should be trained regularly. Children and untrained personnel must not be allowed access to the machine or its controls. Take care when handling liquid agents and additives. These may contain irritant or corrosive ingredients. Do not use organic solvents as these could cause an explosion. Follow all relevant safety procedures carefully. Wear protective gloves and goggles. With all chemical agents the manufacturer’s safety conditions must be observed. Avoid inhalation of powder cleaners. They can cause burning in the mouth and throat if swallowed, or inhibit breathing. The water in the machine must not be used as drinking water. Do not sit or lean on an open door. The machine could tip up and be damaged or cause an injury. Be careful when sorting items with sharp pointed ends and position- ing them in the machine that you do not hurt yourself or create danger for other operators. When using this machine in the higher temperature ranges be es - pecially careful not to scald or burn yourself when opening the door! Bas - kets, inserts and utensils must be al - lowed to cool down before they are un - loaded. Any water remaining in contain - ers could still be very hot. Empty them into the wash cabinet before taking them out. Do not touch the heating elements if you open the door during or di - rectly after the end of a programme, you could burn yourself. They remain hot for some time after the end of the programme. Never clean the machine or near vicinity with a water hose or a high pressure hose. Before any maintenance or repair work is undertaken, the machine must be disconnected from the mains supply, by switching off at the mains isolator, or withdrawing the mains fuse. The following points should be ob- served to assist in maintaining qual- ity standards for special medical in- struments, to protect patients, and to avoid damage to the loads being cleaned. If the machine is being used for disinfection in accordance with offi- cial regulations on the control of epi- demics, the steam condenser and its connections to and from the wash cabi- net must be cleaned and disinfected whenever any repairs are carried out or parts replaced. Warning and Safety instructions 8
When running a disinfecting programme in accordance with offi - cial regulations on the control of epidem - ics, the programme must not be inter - rupted once it has been started (see Can - celling a programme in an emergency). The standard of disinfection in the disinfection programmes must be routinely confirmed by the user. The process should be regularly monitored using chemical indicators, and bacteri - ologically at intervals using bio-indica - tors, with full documentation. Disinfection programmes must not be interrupted, as this can have a limiting effect on the disinfection result. However, should this be necessary, the complete programme must be re- peated. For thermal disinfection, use tem- peratures and operating parameters to achieve the required infection prophy- laxis in accordance with current health and safety regulations. Thermal disinfection should be used in preference to chemo-ther- mal disinfection. Adequate cleaning re- sults are essential in order to achieve satisfactory disinfection results. The CHEM and combiCHEM programmes which need the addi- tion of a chemical disinfection agent are not recognised by IfSG and should only be used if the items being cleaned and disinfected cannot withstand high tem- peratures. The range of effective disin- fection is based on claims made by the producer of the disinfecting agent. Their instructions on handling, use and effectiveness much be observed. Theuse of chemo thermal disinfection pro - cedures is the responsibility of the op - erator. The standard of disinfection must be routinely checked. Only use Miele approved cleaning agents formulated for use in washer disinfectors in this machine. Using unsuitable cleaning agents could adversely affect items being cleaned as well as the components of the machine. Pre-treatments with cleaning or dis - infecting agents can create foam, as can certain types of soiling and rins - ing agents. Foam can have an adverse effect on the disinfection and cleaning process. Where a chemical additive is rec- ommended on technical applica- tion grounds (e.g. a cleaning agent), this does not imply that the manufac- turer of the machine takes responsibility for the effect of the chemical on the items being cleaned. Please be aware that changes in formu- lation, storage conditions etc. which may not be publicised by the chemical manufacturer, can have a negative ef- fect on the cleaning result. When using cleaning agents and specialised products it is essential that the manufacturer’s instructions are followed. Chemicals must only be used for the purpose they are designed for and in the situation specified, to the ex- clusion of other chemicals, to avoid such dangers as chemical reactions and material damage. Warning and Safety instructions 9
The machine is designed for oper - ation with water and additive clean - ing agents only. Organic solvents must not be used in the machine, as there is the danger under certain circum - stances of explosion. Although this is not the case with all organic solvents, other problems could arise with their use, for example damage to rubber and synthetic materials. In critical applications where very stringent requirements have to be met, it is strongly recommended that all the relevant factors for the process, such as cleaning agent, quality of water etc. are discussed with the Miele Appli- cation Technology specialists. The mobile units and special in- serts should only be used for their specific application. Hollow instruments must be throughly cleaned, internally and externally. Empty any containers or utensils before arranging them in the ma- chine. Do not allow any remains of acids or solvents, and in particular hydro- chloric acid or chloride solutions to get into the wash cabinet. Similarly avoid any materials with a corrosive effect. The presence in compounds of any sol- vents should be minimal, (especially those in hazard class A1). Ensure that solutions or steam con - taining hydrochloric acid do not come into contact with the steel outer casing of the machine, to avoid any corrosion damage. Please follow the advice on instal - lation in these instructions and the separate Installation Instructions. Using accessories Only use genuine Miele accesso - ries with this machine. Consult Miele on the type and application of such equipment. Disposal of your old machine Before disposing of your old ma- chine first make it unusable. Dis- connect, cut off the cable and any plug from the cable. For environmental and safety reasons ensure the machine is completely drained of any residual water and cleaning agent. (Observe safety regula- tions and wear safety goggles and gloves). Make the door lock inoperative, so that children cannot accidentally shut them- selves in. Then make appropriate ar- rangements for the safe disposal of the machine. The manufacturer cannot be held lia- ble for damage caused by non-com- pliance with these Warning and Safety instructions.
