Depending on the type of items you wish to clean and disinfect, the washer-disinfector can be used with an upper basket and/or lower basket, as well as, an assortment of inserts and special baskets to suit your needs. Baskets and inserts should be properly selected to match the application involved. On the following pages you will find loading examples and additional information. Before EVERY program start, conduct the following visual inspection: – Are the items properly loaded and secured in the machine? – Are the hollow items properly loaded so that all cavities and channels will be flushed clean? – Are the spray arms clean and can they rotate freely? – Is the filter combination free of coarse debris (remove any coarse material and clean the coarse, fine, flat and micro-fine filters as needed)? – Is the basket adapter properly connected to the water supply for the spray arms and nozzles? – Are the process chemical dispensers filled? After EVERY program completion, conduct the following visual inspection: –Inspect the items for cleanliness. –After washing, items should be checked at random for protein analysis, e. g., with the Miele Test Kit. –Have any hollow items been dislodged from their proper position on the nozzles? ,Any items that were dislodged from the adapters during a program cycle must be washed again. – Are the cavities and channels in any hollow items cleaned through? – Are the nozzles and connections firmly attached to the baskets/inserts? Application 22
How to load the machine –Always load items in such a way that all surfaces will be exposed to the cleaning water. This ensures that the items will be properly clean. –Do not nest any items inside other items. Keep each item separate. –Hollow items must be arranged for complete inside exposure to the cleaning water. –Hollow items should be inverted and placed in suitable baskets and inserts so that the water will have unrestricted access and exit. – Deep-based items should be arranged at an angle, so that water can run off easily. – Tall narrow pieces should be placed in the center of the basket for best water coverage. – Baskets and inserts with an adapter must be properly connected. – The spray arms must not be blocked by items that are too tall or hang through the baskets. – To avoid corrosion, only load stainless steel items in good condition. – Do NOT use this machine to wash nickel-plated items or discolored (oxidized) aluminum items. – Do not load plastics unless they are heat-resistant.–NEVER process disposable items in the washer-disinfector. Prepare items before loading ^Empty all items before loading into the machine. Comply with all applicable infection-control regulations. ,Ensure that no acid or solvent residues, especially hydrochloric acid or chlorides, get inside the machine. Item sorting Contaminated items should be placed directly in the washer-disinfector without pre-treatment (dry handling). Application 23
Spring adapter for the water connection The spring adapter for the water connection must be properly engaged when a basket is inserted into the machine. In other words, the adapter must be4-5mmhigher than the water inlet in the machine. If this is not the case, the adapter needs to be adjusted as follows: ^ Loosen the locking ringa. ^ Move the adapter up to the proper heightb. ^ Tighten down the locking ringc. How to adjust the upper basket The upper basket can be adjusted above and below the middle position by 2 cm each. Depending on the height selected, and which inserts are used, items of various heights can be arranged in the baskets. To adjust the upper basket: ^Pull the upper basket out as far as it will go, lift it up off the runners and remove. ^Use a 7mm wrench to unscrew the roller bearings on either side of the basket, then reposition as desired. Application 24
Application During patient treatment, check thatas little residue as possible (dental cement, polishing compound, etc.)is left on the items (wipe off as needed). After thermal disinfection, manual cleaning in accordance with the biological materials ordinance can be conducted without danger of infection. Rhodium coated mirrors must be arranged so that their surfaces do not suffer any mechanical damage. Not all glass coated mirrors are suitable for machine processing.Lower basket U 874/2 for inserts, e.g., E 130 and E 379. Lower basket U 874/2 for inserts, e.g., E 131/1 for 5 filing trays with partitions E 146 or 5 filing trays for two-sided instruments E 363. Application 25
Adding rinse aid Rinse aid is needed to ensure that water promptly falls away from the washload, preventing spots and speeding up the drying process. Rinse aid (Mielclear) is loaded into the reservoir and a pre-set amount is dispensed automatically. The rinse aid reservoir holds approximately 180 ml. ,Inadvertently filling the rinse aid reservoir with detergent WILL damage the machine. Be sure only to use rinse aid in the rinse aid reservoir. ^Open the machine door. ^ Unscrew the reservoir cap.^Pour enough rinse aid into the reservoir until the level indicator (see arrow) is dark. Use a funnel if necessary. ^Replace and tighten the reservoir cap. ^Wipe up any spilled rinse aid to prevent oversudsing during the next wash cycle. Dispensing processing chemicals 26
Rinse aid indicator light ^Rinse aid does not need to be refilled until the "rinse" indicator light comes on in the display. Setting the rinse aid dosage The dosage adjuster has settings from 1 to 6 (in other words,1-6ml). The factory setting is at 3 ml. If the items show spots after washing, ^adjust to a higher setting. If the items show smearing or cloudy streaks after washing, ^adjust to a lower setting. Dispensing processing chemicals 27
How to add neutralizer For certain programs, neutralizer is dispensed in the rinse cycle after washing, to help prevent discoloration and corrosion spots on the items (especially around jointed areas). Neutralizer (pH = acidic) also helps counteract any traces of (alkaline) detergent from the surface of the items. When a mild alkaline detergent is used for washing, select a neutralizer that contains phosphoric acid. When a neutral enzymatic liquid detergent is used, select a neutralizer that contains citric acid. The neutralizer is automatically dispensed during the second rinse after the main wash cycle. To function properly, the neutralizer container must be filled and cleared of air (primed). For specific instructions on how to prime the system and set the dosage, please read the section on "Programming special functions".^Place the neutralizer container (red) next to the machine on the floor or in an adjacent cabinet. ^Insert the siphon tube into the container opening and screw it into place. Dispensing processing chemicals 28
Neutralizer indicator light ^When the "Neutralizer" indicator light comes on, it is important to promptly refill or exchange the neutralizer container. The "Neutralizer" indicator light should turn off. ^If the container has been allowed to run dry, the light will not go out until the priming process is performed (See "priming the neutralizer dispensing system"). Be sure to refill / exchange the container before it becomes completely empty. Dispensing processing chemicals 29
How to add detergent Using powder detergent Before starting the program, load the powdered detergent into the receptacle (except for the programs "Rinse" and "Drain"). Examples: In the program cycle "Main Wash", approximately 10.5 liters of water flow into the machine. To achieve a detergent concentration of approximately 3 g/l, use 30 g of detergent. Always follow the detergent manufacturer's recommendations for dosage concentration.^Press the button on the dispenser cover. The cover will pop open. After a completed wash program, the cover will already be open. ^ Load the detergent into the receptacle. ^ Snap the cover closed. ,After program completion, check to see that all the detergent dissolved completely. If not, the entire program should be repeated. Dispensing processing chemicals 30
