    							Scanning using the computer
    Scanning a document using the computer
    1Load an original document facedown on the scanner glass.
    2From the desktop, double-click the Lexmark Imaging Studio icon.
    3Click Scan.
    4Select the Document option.
    5Click Start. The scanned document is loaded into your default word-processing application. You can edit your
    scanned document.
    Scanning a photo to the Photo Library
    1From the desktop, double-click the Lexmark Imaging Studio icon.
    2Click View / Print Photo Library.
    3From the Photo Library Add tab, click Add New Scan.
    4Select the Photo option.
    5Click Start. The photo is placed in the current folder of the Photo Library.

    							Scanning multiple photos at one time using the computer
    1From the desktop, double-click the Lexmark Imaging Studio icon.
    2Place the photos facedown on the scanner glass.
    Note: For best results, place photos with the most space possible between photos and the edges of the scan
    area.
    3Close the top cover.
    4Click Scan.
    5Select the Several Photos option.
    6Click Start.
    Scanning multiple photos using the computer
    You can scan photos from the scanner glass and add photos stored in the Photo Library.
    1Load the photo(s) facedown on the scanner glass.
    Note: If the photos are small enough to scan them at the same time from the scanner glass, for best results place
    them with the most space possible between photos and the edges of the scan area.
    2From the desktop, double-click the Lexmark Imaging Studio icon.

    							3Click Scan.
    4Select the Photo or Several Photos option.
    5Click Start.
    6If you want to scan another photo(s) from the scanner glass:
    aClick Add Another on the right side of the screen.
    bClick New Scan.
    cLoad the photo(s) facedown on the scanner glass.
    Note: If the photos are small enough to scan them at the same time from the scanner glass, for best results
    place them with the most space possible between photos and the edges of the scan area.
    dSelect the Photo or Several Photos option.
    eClick Start.
    7If you want to add a photo(s) stored on your computer:
    aClick Add Another on the right side of the screen.
    bClick Photo from Photo Library.
    cSelect the photo(s) you want to add.
    dClick Add Photos. A thumbnail of the photo is added to the preview pane.
    8Repeat step 6 and/or step 7 until you have finished scanning and adding all your photos.
    Scanning documents or images for e-mailing
    You can e-mail attached images using your default e-mail application.
    1Load an original document facedown on the scanner glass.
    2From the desktop, double-click the Lexmark Imaging Studio icon.
    3Click E-mail.
    4Select the Photo, Several Photos, or Document option.
    5Click Start.

    							6If you are scanning a photo, select the Photo Size from the Send Quality and Speed area.
    7Click Create E-mail to have your images attached to an e-mail message.
    Saving a scanned image on the computer
    1Load an original document facedown on the scanner glass.
    2Close the top cover.
    3From the desktop, double-click the Lexmark Imaging Studio icon.
    4Click Scan.
    5Select the Photo, Several Photos, or Document option.
    6Click Start.
    7From the Save or Edit screen menu bar, click Save.
    8To save to another folder, click Browse, and select a folder. Click OK.
    9To rename the file, enter the name in the File Name area. To assign the name as a prefix to all of your photos,
    select the “Start all photos with File Name” check box.
    10To save the photo as another file type, select the file type from the File Type drop-down list.
    11To select a date for the photo, click the drop-down list, and select a date from the calendar.
    12Click Save.
    Removing image patterns from photos, magazines, or newspapers
    1With a scanned image open, click Advanced.
    2Click Image Patterns.
    3To remove the image patterns caused by scanning from magazines or newspapers, click Remove Patterns.
    4From the drop-down list, select the patterns to be removed.
    5To reduce stray marks on color photos, click the check box, and then move the slider to the desired value.
    6Click OK. The thumbnail is updated.

    							Customizing scan settings using the computer
    1From the desktop, double-click the Lexmark Imaging Studio icon.
    2Click Scan.
    3Click Custom Settings.
    4Change the settings as needed.
    SettingOptions
    Color DepthSelect either Color, Grey, or Black and White.
    Scan Resolution (Dots Per Inch)Select a scan resolution value from the drop-down list.
    SizeYou can auto-crop the scanned item. Move the slider to the desired
    setting.
    You can select the area to be scanned. Select a paper source from the
    drop-down list.
    Select area to be scannedYou can select the area to be scanned by choosing a paper size from the
    drop-down list.
    Convert the image to text with OCRSelect this to convert your image to text.
    Always use these settings when
    scanningYou can make your selections permanent by selecting the check box.
    Changing the order of programs in the Scan Application list
    1From the desktop, double-click the Lexmark Imaging Studio icon.
    2Click View / Print Photo Library.
    3From the program taskbar at the bottom of the screen, click Other Software.
    4Click Modify Application Order.
    5Select a program from the list box, and then click  to move the program higher in the list, or click  to move
    the program further down in the list.
    6Click Close to save any changes.

    							Faxing
    Make sure:
    The printer is connected to a computer that is equipped with a modem.
    The computer is connected to a working phone line.
    Both the printer and the computer are turned on.
    Sending a fax using the software
    You can scan a document to the computer and then fax it to someone using the software.
    1Load an original document facedown on the scanner glass.
    2From the desktop, double-click the Lexmark Imaging Studio icon.
    3From the left pane of the Welcome screen, click Fax.
    4Select the Document option.
    5Click Start.
    6Enter the recipient information, and then click Next.
    Note: A fax number can include up to 64 numbers, commas, periods, and/or these symbols: * # + - ( ).
    7Enter the cover page information, and then click Next.
    8If there are any additional documents that you want to send with your fax, add these now, and then click Next.
    9To send your fax:
    Immediately—Select the Send now option.
    At a scheduled time:
    aSelect the “Delay sending until” option.
    bSet a time and date.
    10If you want a paper copy of your fax, select Print a copy of your fax.
    11Click Send.

    							Receiving a fax using the software
    1From the desktop, double-click the Lexmark Imaging Studio icon.
    2From the left pane of the Welcome screen, click Fax.
    The Fax Solution Software appears.
    3Click Tools Œ Preferences and Settings.
    4Click the Receiving Faxes tab.
    5From the “Incoming Calls” area, select Automatically.
    6To set the number of telephone rings before the printer automatically receives faxes, select a setting from the
    “Rings before pickup” drop-down list.
    7Click OK to save the settings.
    Using the computer Phone Book
    Address book(s) from your operating system appear as Phone Books.
    To access a Phone Book entry:
    1From the desktop, double-click the Lexmark Imaging Studio icon.
    2From the left pane of the Welcome screen, click Fax.
    The Fax Solution Software appears.
    3Click Tools Œ Phonebook.
    4To modify the Phone Book, select an option, enter the new information, and click OK.
    Use thisTo
    New ContactCreate a new Phone Book entry.
    New GroupCreate a new Group Phone Book entry.
    EditEdit a Phone Book entry.
    DeleteDelete a Phone Book entry.
    Notes:
    You can include a calling card number as part of the fax number.
    A fax number can include up to 64 numbers, commas, periods, and/or these symbols: * # + - ( ).
    Printing fax activity reports
    1From the desktop, double-click the Lexmark Imaging Studio icon.
    2From the left pane of the Welcome screen, click Fax.
    The Fax Solution Software appears.
    3Click Tools Œ Create Report.
    4From the Display drop-down list, select Sent and Outgoing Faxes, Received, or Incoming Faxes.

    							5Choose a date range.
    6Click Print.
    Blocking junk faxes
    1From the desktop, double-click the Lexmark Imaging Studio icon.
    2From the left pane of the Welcome screen, click Fax.
    The Fax Solution Software appears.
    3Click Tools Œ Preferences and Settings.
    4Click the Receiving Faxes tab.
    5From the “Block Junk Faxes” area, select the check box beside Enable Fax Blocking.
    6If you want to block faxes from specific phone numbers:
    aClick Manage Block List.
    bClick New.
    cEnter a phone number in the Fax Identifier field and corresponding contact name in the Notes field.
    Notes:
    You can include a calling card number as part of the fax number.
    A fax number can include up to 64 numbers, commas, periods, and/or these symbols: * # + - ( ).
    You can block faxes from up to 50 phone numbers.
    7Click OK to save the setting.
    Customizing fax settings
    Customizing settings using the Fax Solution Software
    You can adjust the fax settings in the Fax Solution Software. These settings apply to the faxes you send or receive.
    1From the desktop, double-click the Lexmark Imaging Studio icon.
    2From the left pane of the Welcome screen, click Fax.
    The Fax Solution Software appears.
    3Click Tools Œ Preferences and Settings.
    4Click each tab, and change the settings as needed.

    Modem and DialingEnter the name of the current modem.
    Change modem.
    Choose whether to assign the current modem exclusively for
    Lexmark Fax Center.
    Select Modem Speaker options.
    Change dialing properties.

    Sending FaxesCreate a default cover page.
    Select whether to use a fax header.
    Select the number of times you want the machine to redial and the
    time between those attempts if the fax cannot be sent on the first
    try.
    Select a default scanning device.
    Receiving FaxesSelect auto answer options.
    Manage blocked faxes.
    Choose whether to turn on notifications sounds.
    PreferencesSelect options for the recent fax list.
    Choose settings for List Display.
    Choose whether to delete old faxes automatically, and set the time
    frame for keeping faxes before deleting them.
    Choose a default phone book.
    5Click OK after you finish customizing the settings.
    6Close the Fax Solution Software.
    Setting the number of rings before receiving a fax automatically
    1From the desktop, double-click the Lexmark Imaging Studio icon.
    2From the left pane of the Welcome screen, click Fax.
    The Fax Solution Software appears.
    3Click Tools Œ Preferences and Settings.
    4Click the Receiving Faxes tab.
    5From the “Incoming Calls” area, select Automatically.
    6From the “Rings before pickup” drop-down list, select the setting you want.
    7Click OK.

    							Maintaining the printer
    Changing print cartridges
    Removing a used print cartridge
    1Make sure the printer is on.
    2Lift the scanner unit.
    The print cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position, unless the printer is busy.
    3Press down on the cartridge carrier lever to raise the cartridge carrier lid.
    4Remove the used print cartridge.
    Note: If you are removing both cartridges, repeat step 3 and step 4 for the second cartridge.
    Installing print cartridges
    1If you are installing new print cartridges, remove the sticker and tape from the back and bottom of the cartridges.

    Warning—Potential Damage: Do not touch the gold contact area on the back or the metal nozzles on the
    bottom of the cartridges.
