If a hard disk is installed, fonts can be downloaded and saved, and the over-
lay function can be used.
Installing a Hard Disk
Note
It’s very important to protect the printer controller board and any 
associated circuit boards from electrostatic damage. Before performing 
this procedure, review the antistatic caution on 
Page 136. In addition, 
always handle circuit boards by the edges only.
1Turn off the printer and discon-
nect the power cord and inter-
face cables.

3Remove the rear panel.
Since there are two 
hooks on the right side of 
the panel, remove the 
rear panel by slightly pull
-
ing the left side of the 
panel toward you, then 
sliding the panel off to the 
left.
4Attach the mounting pin on the 
printer controller board.
Be sure to slide the tab 
on the hard disk mount
-
ing pin to the left during 
installation.
5Attach the spacer to the hard 
disk controller board.

6Attach the hard disk to the 
printer controller board.
7Reinstall the panel and tighten the screw.
If you removed the duplex option in step1, reinstall it.
8Reconnect all interface cables.
9Reconnect the power cord, and 
turn on the printer.
10Declare the hard disk in the Windows printer driver (Properties/Configure 
tab, see 
Page 10).

Duplex (Double Sided) printing can be performed automatically with the 
duplex option and enough memory installed. See 
“Required Memory during 
Printing” on page 137.
Installing the Duplex Option
1Turn off the printer.

2Remove the two knockout plates 
and the tape.
3Prepare the duplex option.
Before installing the 
duplex option, open the 
duplex cover and check 
that the knob is posi

tioned vertically. After 
checking the knob, close 
the cover.

4Install the duplex option.
Note
When attaching the duplex option, attach the bottom of the option first, 
as shown. If the duplex option is attached incorrectly, it may be 
damaged.
5Open the cover of the duplex 
option.
Since the duplex option is 
not yet secured to the 
printer, hold the duplex 
option in place when 
opening its cover.

6While pushing in the knobs, turn 
them clockwise until they are 
horizontal.
 
The duplex option is secured in 
place.
Make sure that both 
knobs are securely 
locked.
7Close the duplex cover.
8Declare the duplex in the Win-
dows printer driver (Properties/Configure tab, see Page 10).

If Tray 2 is installed, up to 500 additional sheets of A4/Letter-size paper can 
be loaded.
Installing Tray 2
Note
Since consumables are installed in the printer, be sure to keep the 
printer level when moving it in order to prevent accidental spills.
1Turn off the printer and discon-
nect the power cord and inter-
face cables.
2Prepare Tray 2.
Be sure to place Tray 2 on a level surface.
