To print a self-test report 
1. Load letter or A4 unused plain white paper into the input tray. 
2. Press and hold the Cancel button and then press the Start Copy Color button. 
The HP All-in-One prints a self-test repor t, which might indicate the source of the 
printing problem. A sample of the ink test area of the report is shown below.
3. Make sure the test patterns show a complete grid and the thick color lines are 
complete.

3.Lightly press down on the print cartridge to release it, and then pull it toward you out 
of the slot.
NOTE: Do not remove both print cartridges at the same time. Remove and clean 
each print cartridge one at a time. Do not leave a print cartridge outside the HP All-
in-One for more  than 30 minutes.
4.Inspect the print cartridge contacts for ink and debris buildup. 
5. Dip a clean foam rubber swab or lint-free cloth into distilled water, and squeeze any 
excess water from it.

To replace the print cartridges 
1. Make sure the HP All-in-One is on.
CAUTION:If the HP All-in-One is off when you open the print cartridge door to 
access the print cartridges, the HP All-in-One will not release the cartridges for 
changing. You might damage the HP All-in-One if the print cartridges are not 
docked safely when you  try to remove them.
2.Open the print cartridge door. 
The print carriage should move to the center of the HP All-in-One. If the print carriage 
does not move to the center,...

3.Wait until the print carriage is idle and silent, and then lightly press down on a print 
cartridge to release it. 
If you are replacing the tri-color print cartridge, remove the print cartridge from the 
slot on the left. 
If you are replacing the black or photo print cartridge, remove the print cartridge from 
the slot on the right.
NOTE: Your printer might be packaged with only a tri-color print cartridge. For 
better results, install a black print cartridge in addition to the tri-color print...

6.Remove the new print cartridge from its packaging, being careful to touch only the 
black plastic. Gently remove the pastic tape using the pink pull tab.

CAUTION: Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or ink nozzles. Touching 
these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.

8.Close the print cartridge door.
9.If the print cartridge alignment sheet prints, load it on the left front corner of the glass 
with the top of the page to the left.
10. Press the Scan button. 
The HP All-in-One aligns th e print cartridges. Recycle or discard the print cartridge 
alignment sheet.

•Do not open the print cartridge door unless necessary. This exposes the print 
cartridges to air, which reduces the life of the print cartridges.
NOTE: If you leave the print cartridge door open for a long period of time, the 
HP All-in-One will recap the print cartridges to protect them from exposure to air.
• Clean the print cartridges when you notice a significant decrease in print quality.
TIP:You might notice a decrease in print quality if the print cartridges have not 
been used for a long time.
