DC/DC Power Supply (Lid with Screws on Top)
The instructions in this section are for the DC/DC power supply models with input and output connection blocks located
under a removable lid which is secured by screws through the top of the lid:
     VX89301PWRSPLY – Power Supply, DC to DC, 9 to 36V, 60W
     VX89A302PSDC48V – Power Supply, DC to DC, 18 to 60V, 60W
VX89303PWRSPLY– Power Supply, DC to DC, 60 to 110V, 60W
For other styles of DC/DC power supplies, refer to Determining Power Supply Type (page 4-14) for information.
    Specifications for electrical supply
Please refer to the appropriate wiring schematic at the end of this section for wiring colors and connections:
    Connect to Power
    1. Please review the wiring diagrams before beginning power cable install:
    Without Screen Blanking (page 4-21)
With Screen Blanking Box (page 4-21)
With Relay/Mechanical Switch for Screen Blanking (page 4-22) Input
VoltageAlways observe input voltage range specified on the DC to DC power supply and the optional screen
    blanking box.
    Output
    Voltage12 VDC ± 10%
Fuse 10 A (slow blow fuse)
3 A (for optional screen blanking box)
    Fuses are USER SUPPLIED
For proper and safe installation, the input power cable must be connected to a fused circuit on the vehicle.
This fused circuit requires a user supplied 10 Amp maximum time delay (slow blow) high interrupting rating
fuse. If the supply connection is made directly to the battery, the fuse should be installed in the positive
lead within 5 inches of the battery positive (+) terminal.
The VX power supplies listed above are sealed per IPXX. Usage in areas where moisture can affect the
power supply connections should be avoided. The power supply should be mounted in a dry location within
the vehicle or placed in a suitable protective enclosure.
For installation by trained service personnel only.
Risk of ignition or explosion. Explosive gas mixture may be vented from battery. Work only in well ventilat-
ed area. Avoid creating arcs and sparks at battery terminals.

    2. If the Thor VX9 is on, perform a shut down.
    3. Connect the power cable to the Thor VX9.
    4. Route the cable from the Thor VX9 to the DC/DC power supply. Route the power cable the shortest way pos-
sible. The cable is rated for a maximum temperature of 105°C (221°F). When routing this cable, it should be
protected from physical damage and from surfaces that might exceed this temperature. Do not expose the
cable to chemicals or oil that may cause the wiring insulation to deteriorate. Always route the cable so that it
does not interfere with safe operation and maintenance of the vehicle.
    5. Cut the cable to length and strip the wire ends.
    6. Remove the lid from the DC/DC power supply.
    7. Connect the stripped end of the brown positive
wire to a + terminal in the output block. The out-
put block has two + connectors. Either connector
in the block can be used to connect the brown pos-
    itive wire.
    8. Connect the stripped end of the white negative
wire to a - terminal in the output block. The output
block has two - connectors. Either connector in
the block can be used to connect the white nega-
    tive wire.
    9. Connect the stripped end of a user-supplied
jumper wire to the connector in the output
block. The output block has two connectors.
Either connector in the block can be used to con-
nect the jumper wire. The other end of the jumper
wire is connected to the cable shielding.
    10. If the screen blanking box is used for the Thor VX9 installation, attach the stripped
wire ends of the green and yellow wires to the box. Refer to the applicable following
diagram and the label on the screen blanking box for proper wiring connection..
    11. Route the wiring from the DC/DC power supply to the vehicle’s electrical system.
Do not connect to vehicle power at this time.
    12. Strip the wire ends and connect to the input side of the DC/DC power supply.
    13. Use looms and wire ties to secure all wiring as shown.
    14. Reattach the cover with the screws.
    15. Connect the DC/DC power supply to the vehicle’s electrical system as directed below:
    16. While observing the fuse requirements in Specifications for electrical supply (page 4-19) connect the power
cable as close as possible to the actual battery terminals of the vehicle. When available, always connect to
unswitched terminals in the vehicle fuse panel, after providing proper fusing.
ATTENTION: For uninterrupted power, electrical supply connections should not be made at any point
after the ignition switch of the vehicle. For battery powered vehicles:
+ is connected to battery positive.
    - must be connected to battery negative.:
must be connected to the vehicle chassis ground.
For internal combustion engine powered vehicles:
+ is connected to battery positive.
    - is connected to battery negative.
is connected to the vehicle chassis ground, which can also be battery negative.

    17. If used, connect the wiring from the vehicle to the screen blanking box.
    18. Use proper electrical and mechanical fastening means for terminating the cable. Properly sized “crimp” type
electrical terminals are an accepted method of termination. Select electrical connectors sized for use with
    18AWG (1mm
    2) conductors.
    19. Provide mechanical support for the cable by securing it to the vehicle structure at approximately one foot inter-
vals, taking care not to over tighten and pinch conductors or penetrate the outer cable jacket.
    20. Press the power button on the front of the Thor VX9 to turn on the Thor VX9.
